Saw the second half. First half of second half was delightful. Second half of second half not so. We took foot off. After Coutinho and Suarez came off our attack dried up.

Yep. I also thought Suarez was great while he played... 😉

Very impressed with our new defenders. Didn't know whether manquillo was a top up for the rezzies but he looks great. Defence seemed a lot more assured with those two in it.

I thought Lovren looked predictably awesome today - he'll be our 1st CB for years to come.

Coutinho, well.....

coutinhos a little magician, brilliant to watch and the link up between him, sterling and sturridge looks brilliant. I still don't know how to solve the striker situation, sturridge looks set to be our main man, we need someone good enough but willing to be a back up, the more i think about it the more im gutted about the remy deal breaking down, he would have been perfect

Mors, only a very thick person would think that Mors.

What was impressive most about Manquillo and Lovren was that they were both intelligent in the way they defended, they both read the game perfectly.

Think Lovren really impressed today. Am I wrong in saying that Mignolet was talking a lot more than usual?

Coutinho stole the show. If the right lads can stay fit we will have a great year.

The whole team played well today imho. We look ready for a new season after some very competitive games in pre season.
Manquillo looked very promising.

Lovren was fantastic. You could see the way he took command and organized us. Pushing out and always communicating.
We looked much more balanced with him in the team.
I love Sakho but Lovren HAS to start next weekend.
First name on the teamsheet when it comes to the defenders.

Sterling, Coutinho, Henderson - all excellent.

I have to say it's a bit unfair to put so much weight on the positives we see in these preseason friendlies, and then immediately dismiss the negatives as it's "only a meaningless friendly".

Yet a few posters were quick to jump on the United defeat as a sign that the sky was falling in, despite us being in fairly impressive form throughout preseason. You're right of course, you can't read too much into it, but that's the point isn't it? The way some idiots have been reacting to certain aspects of preseason has been ridiculous.

@BVBfansFF
Thanks for having us, Liverpool! Not nice that you trashed us, but it's a friendly, we'll look over that. Right?

Plenty of real positives to take away from this match though, seeing we played impressively with possibly our strongest side out with only one week more to the season.

Great performance. Never expected us to thrash Dortmund but tbf they were missing some very important players.

Btw, where was Sakho?

One aspect of Rodgers' management I really like, is that he'll freely lavish praise on his young players when they've done well. None of that quiet nod of the head, "he's done okay, and he needs to keep improving" understated sort of thing.

[article]Brendan: He's just magical to watch
10th Aug 2014 - Latest News

Brendan Rodgers was as enthralled as Liverpool supporters by Philippe Coutinho's enchanting display in the 4-0 friendly triumph over Borussia Dortmund.

Anfield was full of appreciation on Sunday as the Brazilian playmaker promoted his range of passing and skill against the German giants, who found it impossible to contain him.

Coutinho provided a fantastic flick for Daniel Sturridge's opening goal, before getting on the scoresheet himself with a fine finish for the Reds' third. He was also the brains in the build-up to Liverpool's breathtaking fourth, which was converted by Jordan Henderson.

The 22-year-old received a standing ovation from the capacity crowd when he was replaced, with Rodgers equally appreciative of Coutinho's creative archive.

"He's so gifted as a player," enthused the manager in his post-match press conference.

"He's just magical. His ability to get out of tight situations and his view of the game is incredible.

"And that's his best position - playing between the lines, he doesn't get marked. He drops to the back of midfield, he draws defenders out, and the weight of his passes is phenomenal.

"He was outstanding, and what he's added to his game is that relentless pressing. He's very strong under pressure on the ball, and puts pressure on the opposition when he's not on the ball."

Rodgers is confident Coutinho will increase his catalogue of brilliance in the Champions League and on an international level.

"He's come into this country and league, and lit it up with his quality. It's now about doing that on the big stage - the Champions League, and he's got the chance to go and do that," added the Reds boss.

"I think that even at that level, he will show what great qualities he has. I really see him over the next four or five years, being a big force in world football, both for Brazil and Liverpool.

"He's an incredible operator, just magical to watch and he's the kind of player that supporters come to see. We're very glad to have him."

Coutinho's stellar show was complemented by the attacking genius of Raheem Sterling. The duo combined effectively and effortlessly, with Rodgers also saluting the England international.

"He's an incredible player, who can go on and be anything he wants to be," he said of Sterling.

"People look at his size, and they don't realise how strong he is. And the kind of pace he showed today against a team of that calibre was frightening really.

"The speed he has, the intelligent combinations and the fact he wants to run the other way too - he wants to defend. He's only 19, and still learning, but he's got a very bright future ahead of him."[/article]
