Liverpool vs Dortmund

Great performance. Never expected us to thrash Dortmund but tbf they we're missing some very important players.

Btw, where was Sakho?

On the bench. Maybe he had a knock or something seeing as we didnt sub Lovren or Skrtel.. Skrtel - Lovren looks like the CBs against Soton.

Rodgers on Lovren:

"Of the two boys that played today, Dejan was perfect - he's what we've been looking for since Jamie Carragher left. He's a very dominant centre-half.

"He'll go and attack the ball, reads the game incredibly well and you can see his leadership qualities with his talking and guidance of the back four.

"You also saw his range of pass on both sides, left foot and right foot. His pass into [Philippe] Coutinho for the first goal was wrapped in with his left foot and that creates the nick around the corner to get us the goal.

"Like he showed us last year, he is dominant in the air in the other box, attacking it. I thought he was excellent."

... and on Manquillo:

"And young Javier Manquillo was outstanding, at 20 and playing his first game at Anfield having only joined this week. His fitness level was very good.

"He's the type of full-back I like - he can get tight to people, stop crosses and defend well, but also then has the energy to attack and get forward. He was very, very good."

I think Rodgers just wanted to let Mignolet, Skrtel and Lovren play a full game together to start getting the partnership time to fall in place, at least for a start. Sakho joined the squad later due to the World Cup, so is probably still a little behind in terms of fitness / sharpness. We'll see how things go as time passes in the new season.

Worries me that Suso isn't getting a game despite two quality goals

Yep, hopefully it's doesn't mean he's gone, we didn't make wholesale changes, we just gave minutes to a few that needed it, I suppose. It would have been nice to see Suso replace Coutinho late on though, with Ibe replacing Sterling.

I was a bit surprised to see Ibe come on for Coutinho. I mean tbf Suso has performed better than him in pre season. I think something is happening behind the scenes with regards to his future at the club. Brendan might not want to play him unless he signs a new contract. Until that happens he'll be in the unwanted pile.

Has he fuck.

Ibe's the fringe player who's most pushed himself into Rodgers' plans this pre-season.

Yet a few posters were quick to jump on the United defeat as a sign that the sky was falling in, despite us being in fairly impressive form throughout preseason. You're right of course, you can't read too much into it, but that's the point isn't it? The way some idiots have been reacting to certain aspects of preseason has been ridiculous.

How long have you been a fan ? Haven't you learned yet ?

Lose our first game and you'll be hearing the first chants of 'Sack Brodgers !'

I'm willing to bet my house on it.

Yeah, and still better than Sterling, too, no doubt.

You and your pet players.

Tbf, he's got a point, I think Ibe and Suso have both done well preseason, Ibe did well in the earlier games, but he struggled a bit against a few of the big boys, overall though I think he and Suso are two of the players who've come out of preseason banging on the door.

I didn't say Suso hasn't done well.

I don't think he's banging on the door, though. Ibe isn't either, particularly, but he's done enough to be worth keeping around this season. I'm not convinced Suso has.

so i guess it is 1 striker in Brendan's formation then, need plenty of goals from others then

very exciting

I said last season when Suso went out on loan that I don't think he's part of Rodgers plans. I think he's great and have been a big supporter over the last few years but I just don't see Rodgers making room for him.

To make matters more frustrating his contract situation will mean we probably get very little for him.

So far Rodgers has generally gone for athletes in the transfer market, Suso doesn't exactly fit that bill. I too am starting to question if he is in Rodgers plans.

I know it's only one match and preseason at that but all those who questioned the Lovren signing have to feel quite daft.

If Lovren had a shocker though, then it would be way too early to judge his quality, as it's only a meaningless friendly, and he needs to settle in.

And if he was a player who performed well, but wasn't a huge favorite, then we'd be saying he's another Aspas.

So, after an outstanding weekend my summation.
I'm half way down the M6 and I can still Mignolet screaming
Manquillo looks great, always getting forward and has no problem putting himself about, maybe slightly naive though.
Lovren is quality, great goal and looked so composed, he was made to play here. Coutinho is an magician, he just needs to work on making sure he doesn't disappear for periods of the season, then he'll be a phenomenon.
Sterling is a phenomenon, he's so absolutely fantastic, he ran Dortmund ragged.
Henderson is also outstanding, great energy and link up play coming from what looked like the right, great goal too.
I spent an hour and a half walking around in the pissing rain trying to find a cab, and I still felt like less of a liability than Lucas
Finally, sat navs and Queensway tunnel lead to the most pointless waste of £4, and the M6 is a cunt.

Anyone got links to the full game? Preferably with commentary and match analysis and all that jazz.

Manquillo looks to be our new Arbeloa. Gerrard found him time and time again with that big diagonal switch. Manquillo wasn't really tested but it was a nice debut for him to get used to the run of things. No idea who Rogers will play next Sunday.
