you speal like those in the media and those like in America lol look at what that top 4 has brought us under Rodgers ! And now you will blame Rodgers. People must understand Rodgers was just a part of the problem.
I am not saying having top 4 is not good or wont be an advantage. I mean winning trophies, winning games as they come, improving the quality of the squad are much more important things ! I wouldn give priority to top 4 and shit on Cup, Europa and FA Cuo games.
In terms of building a club, the Europa and the FA Cup are absolutely useless.
Except that in future years England may be down to 3 teams so a Top 3 not a 4 as far as the CL is concerned. Making it all that more difficult to get back into the CL. Fail to make it this season and 4th next year may be too late. We really need the PL teams in the CL to do better than the Italians, and not just this season but next too.
Well us getting in next year, beating City in the Quarters & then Utd in the final to win the thing should help sort that coefficient malarkey out.

I know what you mean, thanks - you made that clear before, and it still doesn't make sense to me and numerous others on here. Winning cups is nice at the time it happens, but totally meaningless for a team's development over the longer term. Making progress in the league is the only reliable way to ensure a squad is improving.
This doesn't mean you "shit on" the Cup competitions either - the last time we won something, the Carling Cup under Kenny, we did it playing a team half full of reserves (we had Brad Jones in goal FFS). But they're not going to help you win the big prizes. Establishing yourself in the top four is.
I remember Carra and several other players stating something along the lines of without 2001, 2005 would not have happened. One big issue associated with our club right now is the doubt and lack of self belief. Kopp has rightly alluded to that. I think a good run in the UEFA cup and knocking out some decent teams would be great for the morale and winning mentality. Also if we prioritize the league alone, qualify for CL, then overight we may not learn how to compete on multiple fronts.
I don't think anyone's advocating that we prioritise the league to the exclusion of other things. Making a particular competition priority 1 doesn't mean not bothering with the others, and if we were to find ourselves in line to win three Cup Finals again we'd then have to rethink.
None of that, though, justifies making the cups our top priority now. Knockout competitions are just too uncertain to justify doing that and I'd bet a sizeable amount that we didn't prioritise them in the 2000/1 season either, not until the very final stages.
