Yes, thanks count , although you make it sound a bit more faded than it is these days 😉

I have recently had cause to bring two different lots of people to the City, who have spent time in other UK cities, particularly Manchester, all have said how much nicer it is

Agreed, I can't imagine anyone supporting the club who would not want to at least see the city, or even stay there and immerse himself in the city, see the people (there's a whole load of people on here from there that I'd love to meet ie both Liverpool Reds and other Reds)

The city is such a big part of the club, and vice versa.

ONe of my wife's friends did a stadium tour whhile she was there and visited a whole bunch of stadiums like Anfield, the Toilet and even St. James Park (no, I don't know why either) when she was there. Was I jealous.

She fancied herself a bit of a Red, partly because her husband was a Red but after she found out that her husband was shagging a colleague that was the end of her Red love affair.

I've actually fantasised about making the pilgrimage many times, and it's going to be pretty soon, hopefully.

MOre on that later.

Actually thinking about it excites me like a 5 year old.

Would Quadraspaz teach me Scouse?

Would Pete lend me his shirt with epaulettes?

Will Vladders tell me if I'm right or whether Ritchi was right about the Leicester match?

Would Jon teach me technogeekiness?

Is going to a game everything I've always imagined it would be?

Anyway, I'll stop frothing now 8)

I don't like Mike Hunt one little bit.
He does not do a lot to endear himself to me either, still I am sure he will not lose much sleep over that one.

I can understand people getting drawn to Liverpool because of it's history, proximity, family connections, an auntie buying a shirt, all of that.
I find it very warming that people start considering the place as a second home once they have visited, I love to hear about when people off the site are visiting, and if I can I will help with advice or lifts or whatever is possible, and I know all the local lads do the same, and am sure feel the same.
But to seemingly have no affinity or affection whatsoever with the City of this apparently random choice, or no passion just seems so....., well cold and pointless.
Understanding or trying to understand the culture and mindset of a club and a city, and wanting to try and be a part of that is surely as big a part as watching them play
Exactly so Vlad.
I'm gong to find a post I made last year, and your response to it. It was my proudest ever moment as a red.

Liverpool is a marvelous city, as are the people. Even something as simple as someone offering to share a taxi to the ground would never happen in Manchester.

Maybe we're being overly harsh on Mike and he just said it the wrong way. Maybe he doesn't think Liverpool is shit and meant to say "what would it matter if a place was shit".

I share The Count's view..
I just love Liverpool and consider it as my 2nd home. I love the club, the city, its very friendly people, its atmosphere, its crazy night life, its traditions and History, its spectacular late evolutions and its great future potential.

You cannot love the club and ignoring all of this.

Oh and Im coming over in April for the West Ham match

Now, and I freely admit that I view it through red tinted glasses, really like Liverpool. It's faded grandeur is there for all to see and I believe it wouldn't take much for it to be restored to its former glory. It was obviously once a great and proud city and it is only right that it's inhabitants should still hold their heads up and be proud. But truly, what I most love about Liverpool is the people. Friendliness, good nature and humor are there in abundance. While fully appreciating that, like in any city, there is a broad spectrum of people there, I feel a great affinity with Liverpudlians.
Spot on- I love scousers, and love being in the City. As I've said before, I get into more conversations with random people in Liverpool than I would in weeks spent anywhere else. Love it/them.

On second thoughts, the post i made about Liverpool is irrelevant.

This was Vlads response

Ha ha you emotional old git
Liverpool the City, some natives don't get it and few from outside do. You, Andrew, are one of the chosen ones

regards

I dont understand how ANY Liverpool fan would not aspire to be seen as this close to their club. IN PARTICULAR out of towners.

Sad times from that lad.

Err, "Dumb fuck"?

I don't think Mike's post warranted that sort of reaction (even without taking into account this supposed AUP). Some might take issue with the "who cares if the city is shit" comment and maybe there is something to debate there, but the general point of OOT fans not appreciating the local rivalries quite like those in Liverpool do is true I think. I at times wonder the same thing - it's quite interesting to consider how OOTers take on these rivalries and adopt them as their own.

Fair enough. But only he can tell us if that is what he meant or not. If he did mean it and hasn't even stepped foot in the city then he can get to fuck. If he did mean it and has stepped foot in the city then that's his opinion. A disappointing one as I think the place is great but ho hum, each to their own. Until he makes it clear what he's based his opinion on I'll reserve judgement mate.

I don't think it's that Sheik, I don't think he is actually saying the City is shit, as presumably he doesn't know.
I think he is saying whether it is or isn't he does not give a shit, one way or the other, and can't understand anyone from out of town actually caring, either about what other people think, or local rivalry between fans.

I was only in Liverpool for about a day and a half and found it to be a great, warm, inviting city and I greatly look forward to coming back. Hopefully sooner rather than later.

I took it as him saying "who cares if it was shit", which in a way seems to concede the point, but who cares, I don't think he's ever been.

At any rate, my dad brainwashed me to support Liverpool, and also to brainwash any grandchildren I might have. The fact is, it ISN'T the same for me since I left the country when young, as it was for my dad who watched Liverpool through the shit times and the glory days, much of it living in the city. And, if I have kids, it won't be the same for them either.

They'll fucking care though. I'll make them care.

Sorry Vlad if it sounded derogatory when I mentioned Liverpool in terms of being faded. It was meant as a compliment. The city centre is indeed very pleasant and has improved greatly in the last few years. I only mentioned to the Countessa after my recent trip to Liverpool how much I think she would enjoy it there.

I love the fact that Liverpool has such a vast stock of old housing, some of it sadly passed it's prime but much of it still elegant and beautiful. The Countessa has a mate that lived in a three story over basement off Lark Lane for a while and we stayed with her for a while. I loved that house and the area was great too, all the better for still being a lovely part of the city without being yuppified or gentrified

edited.

I just jumped the gun, without reading the proceeding posts.

The very first time I went to Liverpool the coach dropped us near this square, I still don't know the name of it, but the massive Radio City tower is in one corner of it. There is a big JJB and a Liverpool store in it to. There is a pub in that square, nothing fancy, but I find myself in there everytime I am in Liverpool. I love it in there. There is a phone box up in the other corner of the square, just beside the taxi rank, and I always call home from that box. It's been too long since I've been over.
