Maybe we're being overly harsh on Mike and he just said it the wrong way. Maybe he doesn't think Liverpool is shit and meant to say "what would it matter if a place was shit".

I haven't been once and I would love to.

I can't imagine it to be too bad, but to hear these fans of Chelsea, Utd, Everton who weren't from the city themselves, trying to make funny calls about the city, how it's full of "bin dippers" makes me want to vomit.

Those kind of banters in my eyes are only legit if you're actually from/live in the place.

Being totally honest, Everton are just like another club for me. I have only 2 friends who follow them. I have more Chelsea following acquaintances, who are quite obnoxious. Thus, I dislike Chelsea more.

That is true. It's like you slagging a member of your family, no biggie. Some outsider says the exact same thing about them and you're trying to chin them.

Troof !

Although, I will, and have, defended the city of Liverpool.

The very first time I went to Liverpool the coach dropped us near this square, I still don't know the name of it, but the massive Radio City tower is in one corner of it. There is a big JJB and a Liverpool store in it to. There is a pub in that square, nothing fancy, but I find myself in there everytime I am in Liverpool. I love it in there. There is a phone box up in the other corner of the square, just beside the taxi rank, and I always call home from that box. It's been too long since I've been over.

I popped my Anfield cherry with Stu at a champions league match against Monaco a few years back. I'll never forget the atmosphere and the chill that went down my spine when I heard YNWA being roared from the kop for the very first time. I didn’t get to see much of the city or experience the people/nightlife on that occasion, although we did walk into a bar and immediately got wound up by two lads that it was a "blue" bar and we should leave before there was trouble. Needless to say we ended up talking to them for ages and having a few pints with them. If I remember correctly one of them was originally from Ulster somewhere and had lived there for the last 20 years or something. Having been over there numerous times since I can understand why he stayed. I've never had a bad time in Liverpool. Visiting there has given me a deeper passion for the club. I'll freely admit that I only started supporting them because all my mates did when I was younger, but I don’t think that makes me any less of a fan anyway.

I don’t get as worked up for the derby as much as the united games but I think that’s due to the lack of Everton supporters in the pubs over here.

I don't know a single Everton supporter in the flesh but I still get excited for the derby because I know it's an important game for the club. You can feel the locals on the board get more excited and the players are more intense in interviews.

When I became a Liverpool fan, I took it upon myself to learn all about the club, its heritage and the city. On that basis, I totally understand the rivalry with Everton. In fact having a few rabid bitters at my work helps even more.

Ha ha, he was Jim Royle look-a-like. He was a sound fella and bought us a couple of pints. We had a good oul chat with those boys, complete randomers in a bar. That was a good trip, a 2-0 win to boot.

This will be the place stu Willaimson Square, May i also recommend this other wonderful watering hole just around the corner. 😉

It also contains the last ever Wimpy

(This could be very wrong)

They also had an ice rink there when the entire city was frozen over. Fail.

There is a Wimpy in Runcorn Shopping City.

If you ever want to see what the UK would have been like had the Russians nuked us in the 80's, go to Runcorn Shopping City.

Not to sound anti OOT, but you cannot understand the derby until you have either lived in the city, been to one or know Evertonians.

I wouldn't claim to know the intricate details of the Merseyside derby the way a Scouser would but I can certainly appreciate the importance of the game and relate it to my own first hand knowledge of other intense, personal rivalries.

Wimpy is always full of pensioners, they like it because you get a proper knife and fork with your Burger.

And yeah I've never been to Glasgow, but I think I can still understand the old firm rivalry.

Why do we need to justify our love for LFC?

Can or do you need to justify why you choose and love your spouse/partner?

What if she/he was a proper stunner in your eyes then (just like LFC) and now has turned into a dreadful hag (just like LFC)?

Divorce?

If its born of true love of course not.

Give her a shit load of cash, send her down to the spa to get dolled up a bit....Gym membership and a shopping excursion montage a la Pretty Woman and bobs your uncle.

It's like when this Cypriot Chelsea Fan started telling me that Liverpool are such a shit city, high crime rate, bla bla bla..

[/quote]

Hahahaha. Oh the fucking irony of a Chelsea fan denigrating Liverpool when the city in which his favoured team resides has more problems with crime than most other cities in the UK.

I'm in London now. It's a marvellous city, architecturally and infrastructure wise. That's as about as far as it goes. Apart from the genuine Londoners it's full of soulless fuckers and it's one of the most impersonal places on this Earth.

I was talking to a cabbie yesterday. Nice bloke, genuine Cockernee. He was telling me what a bad time they're having crime-wise , especially violent crime. Liverpool has it's problems and yes crime happens but its' nowhere near as bad as it's made out and it's also a lot less than many major cities in the UK. And you're also less likely to suffer from violent crime

Did he blame all the immigrants Sunny? If he didn't he's not a genuine "cockernee"!

As for the rest of it, not much wrong with what you said there. I'm born and bred London and although it still has its gems, I find myself running it down more than I do praising it nowadays.

Ha ha ha, that is the pub in the picture, Queens. Great spot.
First time I brought my mate in there he goes up to the bar and finds a soggy €50 note on the floor. Jammie git.

But that's just it isn't it Sunny?

If he was from London giving Liverpudlians shit about the city, though unpleasant, it's fair game.

When a guy from Cyprus, who happened to follow a London team in Chelsea, tries to have a banter with myself, who has not been to Liverpool once, about how much better London as a city than Liverpool is, is just fucking wrong..

I disagree, the banter for a fortnight leading upto it and the passion and vitriol in the stadium. So you are telling me that this thread is about not really "getting" the rivalry between Everton and Liverpool and my points a load of arse? Ridiculous. Squiggles point reflects that my point is not bollocks.

No, I'm just saying that it's capable to "understand the derby" without coming from Liverpool.
