Is it just me?

I would beg to differ Peatch. Plenty of people who have done none of the above understand its' importance. However, if you have been to one, live in the city, or have to face a bluenose after a derby defeat, then that will most certainly guarantee you understand its' importance.

Not to sound anti OOT, but you cannot understand the derby until you have either lived in the city, been to one or know Evertonians.

What a load of fucking arse.
I disagree, the banter for a fortnight leading upto it and the passion and vitriol in the stadium. So you are telling me that this thread is about not really "getting" the rivalry between Everton and Liverpool and my points a load of arse? Ridiculous. Squiggles point reflects that my point is not bollocks.
No, I'm just saying that it's capable to "understand the derby" without coming from Liverpool.
Ok I should have said understand the passion that is involved.

Even still Peatcheo.

Passion and rivalry aren't things restrcited to Liverpudlians alone mate.

I understand that but when you have loads of bitter blues, in work as well as at home and the banter is none stop day and night, that particular game has extra significance for me. Its the month afterwards where whoever gets the bragging rights will wind the other up. Im clearly having a single minded view but thats the derby for me.

Yep, I've got some proper Bitter Blues at my place and I can't and won't talk to them in the run up to the Derby. Luckily our form against them allows me to talk to them post match. Strangely they don't seem interested then and I get the "wool" comments. A bit rich from the one who's from North Wales!

I've also been to a few derbies at Goodison Park and bar one, I've been sat with them. The two that stand out were FA Cup games back just before Kenny resigned. I got all kinds of banter for being a red and plenty more for being a London red but all of it was good-natured wind up material. I'd like to think it would have been the same had we won either game.

I don't think you would get out in one piece these days Spion.
I stopped going to Goodison about ten years ago, such was the level of spite in the place

Like I give a flying fuck. I just happened to pick the team when I started following the sport, who cares if the city is shit.
You just don't get it do you. Dumb fuck.
I don't like Mike Hunt one little bit.
He does not do a lot to endear himself to me either, still I am sure he will not lose much sleep over that one.

I can understand people getting drawn to Liverpool because of it's history, proximity, family connections, an auntie buying a shirt, all of that.
I find it very warming that people start considering the place as a second home once they have visited, I love to hear about when people off the site are visiting, and if I can I will help with advice or lifts or whatever is possible, and I know all the local lads do the same, and am sure feel the same.
But to seemingly have no affinity or affection whatsoever with the City of this apparently random choice, or no passion just seems so....., well cold and pointless.
Understanding or trying to understand the culture and mindset of a club and a city, and wanting to try and be a part of that is surely as big a part as watching them play
Exactly so Vlad.
I'm gong to find a post I made last year, and your response to it. It was my proudest ever moment as a red.
I thought it was JJ who responded to that post mate.

Can't truthfully say I recall it, but that might just be my age. 😉 If it was me and if it did make Oncy feel proud, I'm delighted. I haven't lived in Liverpool since the end of the 1950s though!
