I was wrong (about a player) thread

Hyypia for me. I remember that summer when we signed him I was travelling in Asia. To pass the time I scribbled in my lonely planet what our line up would be come August. So many nice new faces I'd heard of. Hamann, Henchoz, a new goalie. Hyypia was nowhere near my 1st XI. How wrong I was.

The other was Kewell. I was stunned and delighted when we signed him - Shame he turned into a massive bag of shite.

Hendo.

I was very quick to write him off as just a player who runs a lot after watching a couple of games live and making OTT statements like "all he does it run and keep shape, doesn't add anything to the team" "he only plays one touch passes as he is unable to do anything else".

So happy to see this is incorrect - one of our most important players. He enables us to have such an expansive front line.

I'd say at the moment he's my favourite player. I was kind of the same when he first joined. I remember watching A League Of Their Own and Jack Whithall taking the piss out of him to Gerrard - Since then he's grown into a brilliant and vital player for us.

Lucas. Thought he was shit then he was brill. Thought he was brill then he was shit.......
He was shit when you thought he was brilliant AND he was shit when you thought he was shit.

Morientes was my worst one. Also I nailed my colours to the mast (unusually early) regarding Sakho, who I think is dodgy, and am hoping to be wrong on this one sometime soon.

Suarez. After his antics in the previous WC (Handball for the Nigerian game) I felt he would be trouble. Well, he was a whole lot of trouble in the end, but damn some of his play made it worth it.
Going further back, Sami Hyypia. Granted I had never seen him play prior, and I wanted a big name signing for the defence that season. That is probably the biggest ever facepalm prediction from me

It was Ghana.

Moreno could be on the way to proving me pretty wrong if Spurs is anything to go by.

Also Flanagan and Robinson kind of switched places. I definitely thought one of them was going to succeed here. Just the wrong one, apparently.

Yep - he's up there for me. Partly also down to the fact we have had so many new faces come in but I remember at Drinkies one of @FoxForceFive or @ILD was saying that when you see him live you notice how many of the other players go to him for advice on the pitch and I was amazed that this was really prevalent. Sterling must have been taking instructions off him every 5-7 minutes in the game, it was amazing to watch.

The biggest one I've been guilty of was none other than the King. I thought he was overrated at Celtic anyway, so when we signed him to replace Keegan I was not happy. There have been others, but none anywhere near as bad as that one.

Vignal, Kewell and hendo for me. I was buzzing when we got kewell. Thought we had one of the best players in the premiership....he turned out to be total wank.

Vignal looked so promising I thought he was awesome. Linked up well with riise on the left. He just totally faded.

I remember seeing hendo for sunderland and thinking...meh. then I saw him live when england played france at the emirates and I thought he was shit. So I was gutted when we signed him and to be honest for nearly 2 years I was right and rodgers wanted rid of him. But fuck me has he blossomed into a proper player. Best humble pie ever.

I said it at the time. It was always Ghana happen.

Crikey.

Give this man the gold!

It's threads like these where I'd quite like to see Brenden post again. God only knows what he'd come up with..
