If we're not back to winning ways come Sunday evening at 6pm, i envisage a mini meltdown.

In all seriousness, we simply have to be beating Sunderland.

shame that nutcase DiCanio isn't still in charge though

True, but they're still in a bit of desirory and have a shitload of new players trying to settle in. Now is the time to play them.

Not saying it'll be a walkover, football's a funny old game as they say but if we can't beat that lot we're in trouble.

Oh and they were by far the worst side i witnessed at Anfield last season.

we played as well as united so im ok with it, it wasnt southampton levels

We were alright...nothing to get too excited about though. our midfield still is a big concern, as is the lack of competition and variety up front.

Look at that little Hernandez cunt, he's 4th choice striker at United and ended up scoring the winner. If only we had the luxury of having an option like that.

Nah. Choice of winning ugly and losing pretty (except the Southampton game)? No contest!

Games are tight. Sturridge looks unfit, we're missing Coutinho and a few players are still settling. If we were getting battered I'd be worried, but a fit Sturridge, Suarez and Coutinho will make all the difference to us and will turn around the 1-0 differences in alot of these games.

The simple fact is though, we've either got really shit depth, or Rodgers doesn't feel a few players have settled in enough to be trusted yet. Young Alberto deserves a crack at this rate and I'd be looking to Ibe or someone else instead of Sterling, who looks short on confidence and ideas.

The crux of our problem though is that playing Gerrard deep isn't working, neither is playing Henderson wide to cover the centre back playing at fullback. We need to change it round, either give Allen a go when he's back or get Henderson back in the middle and push Gerrard forward.

Why did we spend £17 million on Sakho?

Did he not see that we needed at least another creative midfielder?
It's borderline incompetent by Rodgers.

I don't know, if we hadn't and we'd ended up with Agger and Johnson injured (as we have), then where would we be? Kelly looks like he's been out the game for years (because he has), Toure would be in the middle and we'd have no right back. It's all great in hindsight, but Agger and Skrtel haven't been pulling up trees recently and we needed competition with an eye on building a defense for the future. I guess it's a matter of priority but it's an area that would have needed tackling sooner or later.

He tried to buy two big priced attackers and lost out, maybe Sakho was one he had his eye on anyway and he felt his availability outweighed what else was on the market as a 3rd/4th choice on his identified targets in attacking areas. I'd sooner we did that and buy someone we actually wanted, allbeit in a lesser priority position, than just spunk £20m-£30m on someone for the sake of it and to please those after 'any' marquee signing.

The big question really seems to be over Aspas, who looks completely out of his depth, Alberto I can live with because he's got time on his side and looks like he has some good ability and vision.

I still think that there's promise in the fact these games are tight. Suarez and Sturridge are both short on fitness, the latter looks injured, once those two, Coutinho and Allen are back and firing on all cylinders, we'll look less stretched. If you took players like that out of most sides they would struggle.

I assumed it was because they were going to sell Skrtel.

Which didn't happen, and now Skrtel's been our best centre back.

Weird.

Yes, I also thought Skrtel was gonner and in hindsight maybe it was a bad idea to sell him.

I believe he bought Aspas to replace Downing.

Mkhitaryan is probably the only midfielder he tried to buy this summer. Diego Costa is a striker.

Three attackers really then (Mkhitaryan, Costa, Willian), the point still stands, there was some intent to buy an attacking option but it didn't come off.

Diego Costa would have been a revelation for us on the left, i'm still gutted we didn't get him.

When he bought Sakho, it was looking like Kolo was going to be out for an extended period, Skrtel was FUBAR, and Coates out of the picture.

If Kolo ended up being out for say 6 weeks, and Skrtel struggled against United, it would be an entirely different tune. We're just fortunate to that regard.

Sure, but he bought Ilori as well. In hindsight, I think we would have been fine with Ilori playing against Swansea.

We needed a CM/DM badly.
Aspas and Alberto arent looking like they will contribute much at all. Sakho was a lot of money for a CB (not that I dont rate him) and now we have CB's coming out of our ears and no one to bring in anywhere else.
Its all a bit of a mess.

For the record I would recall Borini citing Di Canio leaving. We need striker options, we had none last night.

Agree, except about Alberto. I think he'll contribute more than Aspas this season

i really rate hernandez, think he'd be 1st choice just about anywhere, having said that it was shocking defending for his goal

Sorry but Rodgers needs Aspas and Alberto to start producing a bit of form. We spent about £15m on the pair of them...Spurs spent the same on Christian Eriksen.

It'd be nice if Alberto got a chance now before people started saying he needs to produce

At the end of the day though, it's the same old scenario. We've spent big and we still need another piece for that elusive jigsaw. Deja vu.

The good news is that we didn;t really spend big!

SUMMER TRANSFER SPENDING:

Transfer spending so far:
Spent: £46.5M (not counting loan fees, add-ons and youth players)
Earned: £28.2M (not counting loan fees and add-ons)
Total summer spending: £18.3M

= -9,340,000 wages PER ANNUM saved = 9M spent?

This I agree and don't get. Why didn't we go in for him @ that Price. Bizarre/

I think he tried but our targets buggered off elsewhere to teams with European football....

We really couldve done with Eriksen for the 12M Spurs spent on him, he wouldve made a massive difference.

I'm not worried. It was a massive improvement from the Southamton game. We were every bit as good as Utd, if not better and we deserved extra time at the very least.

Suarez is back and he's looking sharp. Very unlucky not to have scored from that free and he created some good chances. It can only get better.

Let's not go into meltdown. Stay positive, people 🙂
