Yep - he's definitely improved and can add depth to the squad, but as with some, I'm not sure where he fits in long term with the way we play.

I don't think he is creative enough to slot in to the attacking bank of 3 behind Sturridge & I don't think he's a DM.

He fits in to Gerrards role well - diminished passing range, but greater mobility - trouble is he's not going to play there if Gerrard is fit.

I wonder how creative he has to be to play in the three behind Sturridge. His primary job there could well be as a forward runner rather than a forward passer, the kind of job Stevie was doing when he and Torres were tearing up Prem defences after Torres first joined.

Gerrard may be fit but he's regularly fucked by half-time. That's pretty much because, apart from Henderson, the rest of the team are cunts who never think to do a bit of extra running for their captain. If we carry on getting in front by half-time, there would be a role for Henderson to come off the bench for Gerrard and make sure the game dies.

he's done well, sometimes I think he tries to hard when he has the ball, you can see what he is thinking but he struggles to execute some of the more steviesque passes we've seen,

We seem to be leaning towards him not being a part of the first 11 when everyone is available, I think we need to remember a lot of the failures last season came when Henderson didn't start:

Southampton away, Stoke away, Villa home (all 3-1 defeats)
Arsenal home (0-2)
West Brom away (3-0)

imo he's more important to the side than we realise, I hope Rodgers isn't as quick to cast him aside.

I agree Henderson does seem to be important to the side. At least defensively. He and Lucas are probably our hardest workers on the pitch.

The midfield was static until he came in last season, teams were walking through us and when we didn't have the ball, we lacked energy to cover ground and close things down.

I remember when Ged nearly (shiver!) signed Lee Bowyer, and I must admit I see Hendo more and more as a kind of acceptable Bowyer. I wouldn't say Terry Mac because he was unique and inspired, but I do think Hendo has it in him to be a really impressive attacking midfielder.

He certainly makes those surging runs between the lines that are difficult to pick up, I always like players who can do that and chip in with the goals, like Garcia, Ljungberg, Scholes and as you said, Bowyer when he was at Leeds. Different types of players but they all had that uncanny knack of making the sort of runs that were difficult to pick up, reading things and getting into the box anticipating the play.

He needs to add more goals to his game, I also want him to take on players as well.
If he can play like he did against Notts County, Newcastle and Arsenal more often I'd be delighted.

Funnily enough, though, I saw a bit of a re-run of the 74 FA Cup final a while ago, and realised that Terry Mac was the same age then as Hendo is now. Terry then was by far the best Newcastle player on the pitch, incredibly industrious and positive, but he wasn't yet showing the flair or the kind of runs, let along goal threat, he developed a few years later at Liverpool, when he was phenomenal. So it's easy to forget how far some can improve in the right circumstances if they've got certain qualities. I'm fascinated watching Henderson progress. It's still up in the air but he's showing encouraging signs, and there's a really good temperament there.

@Modo, I think he will still get few games except Moses being added, because playing Suarez, Moses, Studge and Coutinho all the same times is a ridiculous idea. I think it should depend on the type of opposition what to play. So I dont think BR will do the same mistake again of not starting Hendo as stated by few here with some stats.
Hendo surely provides one possibility of outlet through the middle of the pitch, as seen in County game. It is just that players should start preferring to spot him and play the ball to him more often because he often gets more space because of Cou, Studge and Suarez being in the team.

I hope you're right.

I wasn't born then but I remember seeing the game on one of my dads old tapes. Lindsey scored a great volley in that game, but for some reason it was offside. My dad was pretty pissed off about it.
I also know that we went and bought McDermott soon after and we took Alan Kennedy from them a few years later.

Yes, the Lindsay offside, like the Callaghan booking, is one of the great injustices of the cosmos!
