Henderson vs City

I was really impressed with Lucas the other night, that's probably the best I've seen him look in a longtime. I wonder if, because of his sheer love for the club and the fact he's such an important character in the dressing room, he'll stay and play a part in that sense?

Or are his wages and his need to play going to see him go?

He's still only 27, signed till 2017, and I'm not sure he's on that big wages compared to the likes of Reina and Johnson. There's no real need to move him just yet; the conservative and safer approach for me would be to see how the team looks like in the first half of the season, in terms of Gerrard's and Can's fitness, as well as Can's adaptation to the country and league.

This wasn't from the recent pre-season tour, but I thought I'd just stick it here instead of creating a new thread.

Souness on Henderson's role for LFC, after a game last season. High praise coming from an ex-midfield maestro. Henderson's contract actually runs out in 2016, 2 years earlier than Coutinho's current deal, but I suppose Coutinho probably came on low wages and the proposed new deal is just part of the review process to bring his wages up to par with his contemporaries in the squad.

I don't think Henderson's going anywhere else in a hurry but I expect us to offer him a new contract some time in the 2014/2015 season instead of letting it run into its final year.

I said it before and I'll say it again. We lost the league last season, the day we beat City at Anfield.

The millisecond between his tackle and the ref reaching for the red was the moment I thought 'our title challenge could hang on this'. Might sound like bollocks but it's true.

Jordans red cost us the title, I've no doubt, I don't blame him though, amazing how much impact one moment of stupidity can have.

A moment of stupidity not from him but fucking Victor Moses. Henderson made a desperate attempt to recover from that useless oaf's utter shitness.

It wasn't even stupidity, I'd say it was stupidity if he he thought "fuck it, I might get away with this tackle", it was a tackle he was drawn into by the loose pass, he stretched to play for the ball. He's about the least malicious player in the team, he is all energy and power, but he uses it the right way. I can't remember him getting many cards at all.

It was key to our falling apart, but the overall problem was by then we'd hit empty, we were running on fumes.

Henderson going for that ball & timing it so badly was just symptomatic of that.

It was a stupid tackle, no doubt about it, but as Jon says, it was because he was completely spent and he went in clumsily. I don't blame him though, because Henderson was one of the biggest reason why we did so well last year, he gave absolutely everything.
