Top drawer performance from the lad. Killer penalty to go with a classy goal and excellent all-around game. Should've had an assist too, if Lambert had finished off his cross.

Boss baller.

Well, blow me a gale but that's a far cry from the shy, almost apologetic kid who joined us three years ago! Captain in the making!

His emergence has been brilliant to watch.

From a timid, frightened kid with a massive fee around his neck, being dragged down with the inflated transfers of Carroll and Downing, to standing up and saying, "fuck this, I'm not being driven out of this club". He's stood up, worked hard, worked on his game and has become one of the best, up and coming, all round midfielders in the league.

Fair play to Rodgers too, his willingness to not be stubborn and to change his mind on players has served him well.

I think this is the season that will define his career.

Well there's alot hinging on him really, Gerrard is on his last legs, he's now pretty much the older head in the middle of the park, with players like Coutinho and Can to take under his wing, he's more or less seen off the competition of Lucas and Allen too, so he's entering into the "senior player" phase of his career where he has to push on again and show he can keep his head up when things aren't going great and influence others.

Exactly, a player like Can will definitely give him and Allen a run for their money.
Can looks like a gutsy player so Henderson will need to step it up and play a more important role in the team. He needs to start chipping in with goals and assists.

Yeah, Can looks like a similar player in many ways, ideally they would both do the dogged work AND chip in, which would be a step up from Lucas who's kept things ticking over and done things quietly and efficiently, without ever really chipping in with goals or assists. They are both alot more energetic and cover more ground, I think as a partnership they have the potential to be a bit of a nightmare to play against, as far as the pressing game goes at least.

Allen isnt even in the equation. He'll be lucky to make the bench. I can see a midfield 3 of hendo, can and gerrard for a lot of matches, especially away from home.

I think Allen will play a fair bit, he's well suited to European football, I think he would be useful in alot of games tbh, particularly with us using Gerrard sparingly. Can has had his fair share of injuries too, and we can't rely on him and Hendo to constantly do the pressing game in every game in both competitions.

I just don't see it, I really don't see what allen offers. He's an ok player but I can only see him coming in when we have injuries or tired players. He's so far behind hendo, can, coutinho and lallana who can play there as well.

He will never make it... His posture is all wrong...

I also think David Moyes should be earmarked as Rodgers successor

Can's emergence as a playa in preseason is making our midfield options look really good. For Gerrard's position, you have Lucas as an able deputy, with Allen able to fill in adequately and even Can in the wings. In the box-to-box role, we can choose amongst Henderson, Can, Allen, Lallana and Coutinho.

Imagine the pressing and ball-retention prowess of a side containing:

--------------- Sturridge -----------------
Sterling ------------------ Lallana

Can ------------------------ Henderson
----------- Lucas -----------------

Options. Lovely options. Now if our forward line could achieve something similar.

I'm not sure exactly how close we came to selling Henderson but Rodgers got really lucky he didn't go. I'd give the manager a little bit of credit for getting more out of him but I think Henderson wouldn't have gotten so many chances if Allen was fit more often.

Imo if he has another season like the last and stays close to indespensible to the team then he has to be a front runner for replacing Gerrard as captain.

With Can and Lallana around he has a fight on his hands though. Allen even more so.

Henderson's great, have always said it! I think Modo is right, I think this season will be huge for him, he'll get 8+ goals, and hopefully the rest of the country will stop thinking Jack fucking Wilshere is anywhere near as good as him.

I don't think he's great, yet, but he's definitely becoming a more accomplished and influential midfielder, but alot of it has been through hardwork to compensate for what flaws he did have in his game.

If you look at the likes of Wiltshire, he has it all in many respects, but he's injury prone and not as determined or competitive as Henderson, so in a way it balances itself out. People keep saying he'll hit 8/10/12 goals next season, but he's not a particularly great finisher, despite the fact he takes up good positions. He's capable, but it's not a given he'll progress in his goalscoring, just because he's a year older. As long as he does weigh in with a few, it's not a massive deal, the other parts of his game are proving pivotal to us.

I think playing alongside Stevie has really helped Henderson. You can see elements of Stevie rubbing off on him.

Yeah I always remember you and I (and maybe Mark?) sticking by him. I thought he'd be good, but not this good this quick. He also has a lot of scope to get even better.

With regards to Wilshere, I'd rather people still harp on about him, while our Jordan flies under the radar. Suits us fine.

Hendo used to keep giving the ball away and it would frustrate everyone when he kept making stray passes. Then he improved slightly when he played the ball sideways and backwards instead. Still frustrating to watch though.

Then came Brodgers. Gave him confidence and today Hendo's passing game is top notch. Not only does he passes forward a lot but his eye for a killer pass has been really impressive.

Tis season I hope to see him add goals to his game. Then he'll be world class.

100% with this, Rodgers was lucky but since that bit of luck has been great for him and is getting the best out of him.

Kenny on the other hand nearly ruined him, he managed him terribly imo, he should have taken him out the team early on when he was clearly struggling a lot but he continued to play him and often out of position, it wasn't pretty at all and was very unfair on a young Henderson.
