- Lucas's return. I think he'll be a better version of Britton. Smart, quick passes. The sooner he gets back to 'himself,' the better.

- Gerrard pushing further up the pitch. If Lucas returns to form, and Joe Allen signs, we'll see our skipper roaming the upper 3rd of the pitch more often, and hopefully causing damage with smart runs, great passes and some goals.

- Downing's goal. Excellent goal. Last year, when we drew Sunderland 1-1, Downing had a great shot cannon of the cross bar. Maybe, just maybe, everything will break for him (& the team) positively this year.

- Sterling. You can tell he's raw, and has some nuisances he has to work out of his game, but he worked hard, and got better as the game progressed. The one run he had where he played a good ball into the box with his left peg was excellent. He'll develop nicely this year but is in no way, imo, ready to be a first 11 player yet.

Win, clean sheet, 90 mins under their belt, Borinis movement, Enrique got better as the game got on and the 2nd half was an improvement

Tbf you've noted four things and only one of those are in relation to the game.

Allen hasnt signed and Gerrard barely got forward in the first half.
Lucas returned during the US tour.

Sterling showed his potential in the US as well and he was poor against Gomel.

You're really scraping the barrell here.

Every defender in the Premiership knows how exactly what Downing is going to try to do when he cuts in from the right like that, but if this does his confidence some good then thank god for that. Carragher was at least trying to do what the manager wants him to do, which showed more intelligence than most of the rest in the first half. Sterling got some invaluable experience even though he struggled. And Rodgers did get a better shape and more discipline for the second half.

Downing has showed he can cross with his right aswell, so he's not that predictable.
The lad needs some confidence. Hopefully this will push him on.

And you were out running during the second half.
