As long as an opponent can be penalised for contact deemed to be "foul," players will always go down easily regardless of who they are, its natural human mentality to exploit any resources that come your way, and would be for a player desperately trying to win a match for his team.
Going down "easily" doesn't cover Gerrard in glory, but hes not an all out no contact diver, and there are many worse. If you've ever shouted at a Liverpool player on the tv "damn, he should have gone down there after a player has "honestly" kept his feet inside the area," it shows our often hypocritical nature on this subject.
