Absolutely he has, not only has he failed to unseat Barca at the top of Spanish football, hes failed to get to a Champions League final and this year his team has descended into chaos. Ive always suspected that part of his philosophy is that when he decides to go he leaves his team in disarray so that the next manager has to spend about 2 years cleaning up after him and looks dreadful by comparison

The fact that Barca won the league with their coach in hospital for most of the season while Real Madrid imploded under Mourinhos narcissism is the funniest thing about it, the manager who wants all to bow down to the cult of his genius was beaten by a manager who spent half the season in New York

In 3 years he has won 1 league and 1 cup, thats a decent return, its also the same as Roberto Mancini, who is judged by most to have failed at Man City. When you consider that he had the most expensive squad in the history of football at his disposal its hard to see it as anything other than a failure.

He had two tasks when he took over

1. Restore Madrid to their position as the dominant force in Spanish football
2. Win their 10th European Cup
