[article]"He's already written his letter, hasn't he? He wrote a goodbye letter, didn't he?

"I was surprised at the letter. When you are a loan player, I would expect that he should come back, but obviously Pepe made it very clear when he went to Napoli that he was looking to move.

"He penned a great big letter saying he was going to work with the best manager that he'd worked with and thanked him for his time for Liverpool. So, for me, it probably sounded like he'd made his decision there."[/article]

From the Southampton Pre-match press conference.
Is this it?
Or man management at work?

I think it stung rodgers when pep said he was going to work with the best manager that he'd worked with. No way will rodgers want to be sloppy seconds.

He is sick in his mind. Agger was one thing, but to kick someone out on loan like that, and then still expect them to love you and view you as their best manager is plainly disturbed.

Oh, balls. The issue isn't how Reina feels, it's saying what he said in public when he's still on the club's books. I can't see how anyone could interpret the content of that letter other than the way Rodgers has. He probably does want Reina off the books, but there's absolutely nothing wrong with what he's said about this. If Reina really wanted to come back, he's the numpty here.

Why was he talking about Reina at all? Was he asked?

The quotes / letter from Pepe came at the start of the season, did they not?

Reina had a whinge when he went on loan saying that he was forced out. He pretty much burned his bridges, so I'm not surprised if the club are slightly annoyed with him.

Reina said the other day at the end of the season he'll come back to Liverpool and see what happens. Someone highlighted this to Rodgers

Rodgers has pretty much gone "no you fucking won't son"

Indeed and, in answer to keni's question earlier, my guess (tho' I admit that's what it is) would be that he did so in response to a question about Reina coming back, a question based on what Reina himself had previously said.

The only thing that stung Rodgers was the 'Rafa was the best manager I worked with'. It's that kind of thing that will keep niggling him until he wins something and relaxes a bit. You really shouldn't show that such a comment irritates you.

I'd agree with that. At first reading I thought he was just citing that as grounds for believing it was a goodbye letter, but on reflection he could have made the same point without mentioning that particular bit of the letter.

Yeah, it seems a bit petty.

Pepe must be looking at Liverpool now thinking he wouldn't mind some of it, likely back in the CL and well on the up again.

No sympathy for him though, the way he went about the Barca stuff took the piss.

To be fair to Rodgers, I don't mind him getting a bit pissed off with reina. Constantly trying to advertise his availability to barca last season, combined with the "I didn't want to go on loan" stuff would piss me off too.

To Rodgers it could look like reina had no faith in his ability to get Liverpool in to the champions league.

Granted Rodgers should have left the manager statement out but *shrugs*
I'm happy with the way he's stood up for himself and shown his iron side

I always like Pepe as a keeper, haven't missed him in all honesty with Ming doing a reasonable job.

Pepe the personality, I can do without, stage hogging and acting the maggot when you win world cups, it's not cool.

After yesterday's match vs Roma
[article]Pepe Reina performed some decisive saves, particularly on a deflected Douglas Maicon strike.

It seems a bit much to say a 32-year-old goalkeeper is old! He is in great physical shape, reads the game very well and I said at Liverpool he was one of the best in the world. Will he remain at Napoli? There is a clause in the contract, but we’ll discuss it later.”[/article]

Even when his form dipped i fully supported reina. But in his last season he started he looked overweight and lazy and then i lost all respect for him. There's no excuse for looking so out of shape. On top of that for his last 2 seasons he was constsntly whoring himself to barcelona. So reina can go fuck himself and has no right to complain about anything the cunt.

Course you should, it's disrespectful. Reina didn't have to say it, as JJ said, it's not what he said, it's the fact he said it.

I don't think it's anything to do with a bruised ego, Rodgers is the first to applaud past managers and the first to admit that he's still learning. It was a shit, unnecessary comment by Reina. Sure, he can be unhappy at the way he was pushed out and he can say as much, even though he spent a few years whoring himself to everyone from United to Barca, but to say "I'm going to play for a better manager" is a cunts trick and he's rightly been put in his place over it.

It's kinda arrogant of Reina all over really. From saying what he said last Summer, to now assuming he can just come back because no one wants him.

I await the - goalkeepers get better with age, he's got another 5 or six years at the top level left in him from somebody. Anybody.

Come on !

I'm guessing the Napoli first choice GK is still injured and that's why Reina is playing ?

I wonder are we just going to have to stomach paying another 3m plus to have him on loan somewhere else next year?

I hope the club has learned a valuable lesson from Reina and his last contract extension.

Yeah.. You'd have to think they're going someway to doing that, given the recent Johnson stories..

His is a much easier case I think.

For example nobody on here would give Johnson the contract he's looking for, mainly because of recent form, but everyone thought we had to give Reina 100k a week.

Reina at his prime was one of the world's best GKs and one of the best we've had.
Unfortunately he's been far from his best over the last 2-3 years.
I can't remember clearly when his contract was extended by us, but It's been only for the last 2 years or so that most people reckoned he's not the same keeper anymore. So I guess if his contract was extended at that time frame, it was reasonable for most fans to want his staying.
Add to to his decline him whoring himself to Barca and everybody else, and I think most fans who had wanted him to stay changed their minds.

Er, I'm pretty sure you didn't though, did you? I think you were right all along.

I couldn't disagree more. We extended it when he was 28. He hasn't been worth the contract at all. Arguably for one season he was.

And lots of people said he was going to fine for a decade so we should extend him - which is the falsest of beliefs out there. We again based a decision on conventional wisdom and it has bit us on the arse badly.

I expect someone to say we couldn't have seen it coming but you could have. The biggest idiot on the site predicted it at the time

No, you should dismiss it.

You disagree with what?
That at his prime he was one of the top GKs in the world?
That at 28 years old he looked like he had more than a few good years in his as a top GK?
That it was not unreasonable not to foresee his coming decline at the time?

Well, I guess we'll have to agree to disagree.

BTW, who's that - "The biggest idiot on the site predicted it at the time"?
