Skrtel and Agger are both superb defenders and we certainly can't afford to lose the pair of them. I guess i could live with selling one of them if a bid of around £20 mil comes in.
I really didn't want to see too many departures but it looks like we'll be losing quite a few players this summer, hopefully it won't cause too much of a disturbance come the start of the season.

I don't mind losing the players on the fringes. Get in decent quality to go straight into the starting XI. Improving the overall strength of the first team should be a priority.

I think you over-exaggerate Skrtel's skills in the air massively too. And in general to be honest.
And the fact you spend a lot of time telling everyone Skrtel is the stronger defender doesn't necessarily make him so, at least not in my opinion, as Agger is a pretty strong defender too, that doesn't get bullied often. As in almost never. Don't think there's much difference between them there either, if any at all.
Anyways I'm not one of Agger's biggest fans on here for nothing, so I'll come out and voice my opinion when I believe someone is in the wrong with regards to him, pretty much as you don't miss many chances yourself either to defend Skrtel. Same goes for Jules.
As said, I could've placed money on you and Jules talking Skrtel up on behalf of Agger in this thread.
And now Jules will tell us how Skrtel this one time took care of Drogba as no-one else has ever done before - hence he's MUCH stronger than Agger.

Look. I have said it a million times. Keep the squad together and get BETTER players to push the ones we have down the order.
If we HAVE to sell to buy then there are certain players that OUGHT be immune to that.
They are
Johnson
Agger
Skrtel
Lucas
Gerrard
Suarez
and probably
Reina
Coates
Kelly
and the other kids.
Anyone else if the offer is big enough that Mr Rodgers can strengthen sufficiently we would have to be mad not to take it given where we are right now.
The names listed above would instantly weaken our team and we shouldnt even think about EVEN if the player asks to leave.
And regarding the Skrtel/Agger thing, its not unacceptable to suggest either is better than the other.
Personally I think Skrtel is now the better player and would pick him over Agger as he has more strings to his bow, but I love Agger and it neednt be an either or. Both are amongst our best players and we should keep both and stop bickering about which season which was best.

Thinking the way forward is to keep a squad that has finished 6th,7th and 8th together is mental . Particularly one as expensive as this one

No you fix whats broken, you dont get rid of everything and start again.
If Agger or Skrtel leave we have new problems and have shown no sign yet this summer of fixing the old ones.

I actually had to check my original post to see what I had written.
Whilst I dont disagree in principle with the idea of a player who is impervious to injury, im unsure it exists.
In addition im not against the idea of signing a player who is as good or better than anyone we have here. But not at additional cost. If we sell Agger it should ONLY be for enough to buy a player as good AND have money left over to strengthen.
There is nothing to gain by swapping like for like players and we have been doing it for years to the detriment of results.
We keep the good and ADD better.

Out of curiosity, which players do you guys have in mind when talking about like-for-like replacements for Agger?
United lost the title in injury time, they don't need to rebuild because they've got enough flexibility to keep them competitive.
We finished eight, we have fuck all financial flexibility. We will never win the league with Agger and Skrtel - not because they aren't any good.
Anyone over the age of 25 should be available for sale
