So had LEscott (or whoever) had left his leg there, johnson gets the ball and then breaks his leg. Possibly end a fellow pro's season or career, then the situation changes? Behave. Them tackles are disgusting. Straight reds every day of the week.

There was no need to go in with both feet there. He had time to pull his left leg away.

And if my auntie had been born with a willy she'd be my uncle. Ifs and buts don't count.
So you'd be happy Rooney flying in on Gerrard like that as Gerrard may pull his leg out of it? These tackles mostly get reds for a reason. I've seen a broken leg on a Sunday league pitch from shithouse 2 footed tackle, it's not something I ever want to see again.
You're missing the point. The Citeh player's leg wasn't in the way. He didn't get there till after Johnson had kicked the ball away. Not all such tackles are automatically dangerous.
I'm not missing any point. That was a dangerous challenge. Whether the player had a leg there to break or not, it's still dangerous.

so you guys are okay with THAT?
okay, fair enough, I'll leave it there.

if if if

if the player stands their ground and that two footed challenge lands it would proper fuck up that player.

someone points a gun and misses because the target dodges, that's okay? the bottom line is there is no reason for footed challenges and they should eradicated from the game.
I'd hate to tackle with my head

Actually, gents, that a far more (potentially) dangerous tackle than Komapny's was...

That could have been a disaster.

.....from that angle

He's fucking through the ball before Lescott gets near him. How is that dangerous? Should Reina get penalised for punching the ball because someone's head might have been there seconds later?

Shite.

It's the launch and two feet together that make it dangerous. The refs are deciding things on the process of the tackle rather than the outcome of it, and I think that's the safer option.

This sort of approach began after Taylor fucked up Eduardo, and it's hard to oppose it.

It's dangerous, Dr... It just is.

He hadn't a notion where Lescott would be by the time both feet and all his body weight arrived at that point. Lescott was far, far closer than some are making out.

Serious question, what was the last serious injury (premier league) as a result of a two footed challenge?

Edit: just seen rosco's post.

Well, if you look at the City player he is reaching for the ball and cant get to it. He is not in control, far from it. It is more of an interception than a tackle. And it is hard to tell from just that gif, but you can argue the City player was never in any danger.

These are never easy calls but it was a horrible tackle and Magic would be the only one to blame if he got the red there.
^this

dangerous ground indeed

Modo and Neil think its a red. Ergo, it wasn't.

I think you're good looking 😉

I'm pretty sure there's been another couple since Taylor.

didn't Shawcross destroy someone as well ?

Aaron Ramsey. I can't remember the challenge itself.
I don't think it was similar, not interested in watching the video !

Rodwell got sent off against us for less.
And did you think that was a sending off?
Nope.

I sense a drinkes debate coming on...

Me & Spion on the same side on this one, we may just manage to win by outlasting everyone else!

We have to decide is this a man's contact sport or not. To be frank I'm prepared to see a few broken legs than a sport where tackling is practically outlawed. There are injuries because of tackles in every proper contact sport. That's part of the deal. Johnson took that ball cleanly and Lescott would have had to have been stupid to get in the way of that tackle.

Think Shawcross tackle was a one footed scythe at pace on Ramsey's standing leg which was jarred.
Johnson's was reckless but I think it would have been harsh sending off

I'm not trying to outlaw tackling, just dangerous ones like Johnson's today.

I don't agree with all tackles from behind are yellows, because you can come across the ground and use your leg to get the ball without endangering your opponent.

Tackling in itself is a skill, just like hitting a 40 yard pass. What I seen tonight was just the opposite. Throwing your whole weight, studs showing towards that ball was not skill at all. It was stupid and wreckless.

So, if that was you, on a Sunday morning, in the role of Lescott, you'd not have had a word with the bloke playing GlenJo?
