The Magic that is Continio

He is brilliant. The consistency is starting to come, he is making smart choices more often than not. And the shooting - coming along nicely. And he still has so much more potential to develop further. Fantastic bargain.

He's been boss for 3 full months now. The praise is definitely warranted.

His form has coincided with ours. Doesn't take a genius to work out how important he is.

Notice his goal was a strike to the keeper's left.
He's not pulling the ball on every shot now and he's getting the rewards.

Yes it was. As is all the praise he's now getting.

Yeah and that's why they're comparing him with world class players.
He's arguably the least deserving of criticism in the entire squad.
He has paid off the fee he was bought for and then some. Can't say the same about half of the players in the squad and they're not getting the same type of flack.

I now don't know what the heck you're complaining about. He deserved criticism for the flaws in his game in the past. He's worked to improve and he's done so, and he deserves all the praise he's getting now. What criticism in the past are you so exercised about?

It's odd how people associate criticism with thinking a player is shit

He's scoring more goals and he's getting consistency. He's shown what he's got in his locker by running a game against the league champions. He's a sublime footballer

You're asking Modo to explain his point

You'll be waiting an eternity

It's a bit RAWKish in here at times.

From what I've been told.

Outstanding again and someone who controls the teams rythem.

However the haters will hate again when he has his next poor game

How doesn't he appear to want to learn from it? He changed his system earlier in the season and changed the midfield setup, to try to shore things up, our defensive record since has been, largely, excellent.

The style going into games almost never changes. The formation always does. I don't think we'll see him set up for a draw anytime soon. In Europe and when in poor form, sometimes you need to do that.

I'd say he set up for a draw.on Thursday. It didn't work unfortunately. We were rubbish.

A measured amount of criticism, like "he gives the ball away at times". that I can understand.
However, comparing him to world class players in order to say that he isn't scoring enough or isn't good enough that is something I have an issue with.

How can someone say something like "shit happens when Lallana is on the pitch" and then complain about Coutinho?

How can someone be dick riding Borini, pardon my french, and criticise Coutinho?

How can someone
Because in the first half of the season when we were poor, Lallana WAS our most creative player. Coutinho was hiding for months after owning dortmund in a friendly.

That's how he could say that when he did. Because it was true at the time

That's very unfair. Even when playing badly, he rarely hides.

OK, and how many games did Lallana win for us during that period?
Lallana has never been as effective as Coutinho has been during these past few months for us.

That's a completely separate issue. If anyone said Lallana was as important now as he was at the beginning of the season they're clearly on crack.

Coutinho was off form. He barely deserved a start in the first half of the year. But he's shown great strength and character getting to how he is now.

Lallana has maintained a level, but now everyone has matched that level or surpassed it.

When? The criticism and the comment Modo quoted wasn't from months ago, it was from a month ago, or more accurately, a couple of days before Coutinho set up two against West Ham. Lallana is great, I really am a big fan, but he wasn't our "most creative player", he's got three assists to his name this season. If anything, our most creative player this season has been Henderson, in terms of chances created and assists, he well outweighs both Lallana and Coutinho.

It's a daft debate, he's playing well, we all know he has the ability to be top drawer, he's not far off it, some of the criticisms have been well over board, which is why people have reacted the way they have. People don't have a problem with posters saying he can improve on this and that, that's fair game. The frustration stems from the initial comments made and the fact he's been inaccurately compared to other top players, when he actually compares favorably to many of them statistically anyway (a point ignored), and the notion that Lallana is the more creative player, who scores and creates goals. Coutinho out does him on both counts this season. Statistically over the last three years they have a similar record - Coutinho wins on assists and Lallana wins on goals, it's much of a muchness with not alot in it, but as said (and ignored/ridiculed), Coutinho is 22, Lallana is so-called "peak age".
