still our priority should be someone comfortable in a wide position who is a genuine goal threat.
kuyt isn't going to be dropped and gerrard is a forward now so where would tevez play?
Up front when torres hamstring tweaks all fucking season long.

now there's faith in action.
Name me one player EVER to have hamstring injuries that just went away? You get a bad hamstring thats it for life. Torres wont play as many games as he did in his first season for us again. Tevez can play there or as the left hand side attacker.

Re: Tevez

its great that its winding the mancs up but i'd rather not spend the 25 million odd that will be needed to sign him. i'd rather we got aguero for a little bit more than tevez. can easily see babel going the other way to make the difference in price between tevez and aguero.

tevez cannot lead the line nor is he dynamic enough to play the gerrard role

That's a pretty bleak assessment Oncy.

I was joking, I'm well aware that hamstrings are going to plague torres pretty much forever now.

Manchester United's Carlos Tevez Keen On Move To Liverpool - Report
The Red Devils will be powerless to stop him joining their Premier League rivals unless they make his loan deal permanent at the end of the season...

According to a report in the British tabloid The S*n, Carlos Tevez would like to join Liverpool at the end of the season.

The Argentina international is currently on loan at Manchester United, where his two-year spell comes to an end at the close of this season.

The Red Devils are thought to have first option to purchase 'El Apache' on a permanent basis, but it seems that they are unwilling to pay the £26-30 million it is claimed his owners are holding out for.

Should United decide they do not want to buy him this summer, the 25-year-old forward will be free to negotiate a deal with any other club.

While it is said that the likes of Spanish giants Real Madrid and Italian outfit Milan are interested in adding the former Boca Juniors and Corinthians star to their squads, the player has revealed he would like to remain in England.

Joining Liverpool would allow Tevez's family to stay in Cheshire, where they currently reside and say they are firmly settled.

Apparently, the Merseyside-based outfit have contacted the former three-time South American Player of the Year's owner, Kia Joorabchian, to notify him of their interest.

United have been staunchly against selling players to Liverpool in the past, and manager Alex Ferguson recently blocked Gabriel Heinze's proposed move to Anfield.

However, the Scot will have little say on whether Tevez can join the Reds, while the striker is apparently unconcerned about what United fans might think of the move as he has always made clear his desire to remain at Old Trafford.
Its true though. Best case scenario he misses one game in 5 or 6 to rest it. Worst case it goes every few games and he misses chunks of every season from here on in (ryan giggs).

Re: Tevez

torres just needs a summer off else his career will suffer. someone needs to have a word with him

Re: Tevez

That's a really horrible outlook on things, but it's been in the back of our minds all season I guess.

We finally get a world class striker and after one season, the injury worries kick in. Poo.

Still, if he ends up as decorated as Giggs, it won't be so bad, eh...
Id rather have Nando half fit for half a season than almost any other striker fully fit. Witness his place in the goalscoring charts this year having played a fraction of the games. We REALLY could use Tevez though.

Re: Tevez

If Torres's injury problems really are as bad as you're suggesting, Oncy, I think we need a better, faster back-up striker than Tevez. He's not a bad player, but he's no kind of replacement for Torres at all.

I don't know about THAT one. you'd rather have a striker for half a season (no matter how prolificic) than a very good striker for a full season? one is going to score in bursts (how else will he get near the top of the scoring charts despite half the games) and the other will give you a consistant steady stream of goals all season long. no offence but I know which one I'd rather. I'd love nando to win the golden boot but I'd love the league far more. hopefully a non issue if nando avoids injury next season.

Re: Tevez

I'm not convinced he'd feel more 'wanted' here than there. Good player, but I wouldn't pay more for him than we paid for Mascher.

Re: Tevez

If his injury problems are as bad as being made out, then we should flog him and get £40mil+ for him while we can.

Both Messi and Eto'o have suffered in recent seasons too.

This time round they've been pretty injury free, so maybe it won't be quite that bad.

We do need a quality alternative though so that we're not forced to play him in every single game.

Re: Tevez

I think sports science has advanced enough these days for hamstring problems to be greatly reduced via specific and bespoke training and exercise regimes, and it's good to see that Torres has already been put on something like this, but he does need a rest, too. The terrible thing with Owen was how bad a tear he first incurred at that match against Leeds. I'll never forget the sight of him collapsing in mid-sprint. Before that he was a kid who thought he was indestructable; after it he's been a man with a horrible nagging neurosis about what might happen next.

could the spanish climate be a 'helper' though? and I've also noted that messi comes off the bench every few weeks nowadays ...
You mean a very good striker like Keane, Adebayor, Van Persie, Defoe, Agbonlahor, Drogba, Crouch, Rooney, all of whom Torres has outscored this year?
There is no guarantee with injuries, but you can guarantee when fit Torres will outscore almost ANYONE.
Thats why i wouldnt swap him Neil, because in those 'bursts' he will still get bunches of goals, whats important is that his cover keeps the ratio up.
Et'oo or Villa. Other than that i wouldnt even think about it.

Giggs has averaged around 40+ games a season for the scum no?
No idea, but if that is the case then he is missing over a third of each season given the 4 competitions they play in.

With Torres i agree, the best thing that could happen would be him taking a looong summer off. I dont think he will though, and that will not help.

I think i'd be more than happy if we got 40+ games out of Torres a season.

Jamie hasn't played much more than that has he?

803 'appearances' in 19 seasons, so that's an average of 43 appearances a season. That is just appearances though, so a chunk of that will be from the bench, and this is in all competitions too (inc the Community Shield, World Club Championship, Super Cup etc).

Not bad though.

I'd take that over the next 7 seasons or so.

Yeah it's not bad, obviously the bench appearances will have increased in recent years, but I'd wager he's probably started an average of 30+ games a season in all comps. So that said, when that's put across the CL and the Premiership, it probably equates to playing in half of the games in both competitions, which is still a bit of a reflection of his injury woes.
That also doesnt tell us how many he's played since his injuries started. I mean for fucking years he was first name on the teamsheet.
I dont think we should get fixated on what may or may not happen based on what Giggs career went like. The point is it wont go away, and we need a plan b. Tevez and Kuyt represent a very good alternative in my eyes.
