Modo

A contentious scando

Reina 6 - Some decent saves mixed with some suspect aerial play.

Kelly 6 - Did well until the mistake that got City their equaliser.
Skrtel 6 - Would have been a MOM contender if it wasn't for his mistake.
Coates 7 - He did really well today. Broke up play, distributed the ball well.
Johnson 8 - Did what was expected of him despite playing of the left.

Lucas n/a - Hope it's not too serious.
Allen 8 - What a fantastic little player. Reads the game like a world class player.
Gerrard 6 - I expect more from him.

Suarez 7 - Could be frustrating at times but got a well deserved goal.
Borini 6 - Needs to do more and shouldn't be playing on the wing.
Sterling 7 - What a great start to his career. Worked hard, caused their defence problems with his pace. Defended well. Very disciplined and mature performance from a 17 year old.

Subs:

Shelvey 7 - Showing that he belongs in the big leagues. Looked comfortable in midfield with Allen and Gerrard. Needs to be careful with his tackling.

Enrique 7 - Great cameo.

Carroll n/a

Spot on about Kelly.
I thought he was playing very well before that mistake which I thought was very unlucky.

Reina 5 (for the goals and his distribution was a bit shit)
Kelly 6
Skrtel 6 (8 but for the stupid fucking back pass)
Coates 7
Johnson 8
Allen 9
Shelvey 7.5
Gerrard 6
Borini 7
Suarez 7 (Cracking goal but kept trying to do everything himself when there were plenty of options available)
Sterling 7.5

Spot on about Kelly.
I thought he was playing very well before that mistake which I thought was very unlucky.

Could he have done anything else on that though? Seriously, he had less than a second to react to a ball he most likely didn't think was coming ... really unlucky, as he was playing very well until then.

5 - Pepe - He really needs to clean up his act re. crosses. He was miles away.

5 - Kelly - Looked quite good for long spells, then would throw in an error to remind me that he is not 1st team material. I'm afraid he is just not good enough for matches of this calibre, though generally a perfectly adequate stand in for Cups and as back-up.

7 - Coates. A big step forward. Established himself as out #3 CB today.

6 - Skrtel. Agree with Modo. That horrendous mistake aside he would have close to MoM.

8 - Johnson. Excellent play in both defence and attack. Looked great with Sterling. We only moved him over to RB because Keely couldn't handle it.

6 - Enrique - didn't look to thave the same rapport with Raheem. Maybe it would be too harsh to complain he wasn't as good as Johnson.

8 - Gerrard. He was the one pulling the strings for half the game (our half of the game) in almost every attack we made. Excellent performance though I really wish he'd find those old shooting boots again. Superb crossing yet again (for a change from a corner) and Kompany was lucky to see his deflection go over the bar.

7.5 - Sterling - welcome to the first team mate, at 17 years old. Bloody hell. If that doesn't inspire Suso, Morgan et al then nothing will. Excellent performance though just a little more reserved than usual, to be expected. Excitingly he did not look out of is depth and can only kick on from here.

9 - Allen - what more can you say that hasn't been said. Absolute top class player and he's going to prive a marvellous buy. One mis-placed place and one poor tackle otherwise superb.
7 - Shelvey - not my favourite player by a long way but he did very very well today. Maybe there is hope. Still liable to throw in an horrendous reckless challenge (thank goodness today he missed Tevez whilst trying to wipe him out on the edge of our box) !

7 - Borini. Ran his bollocks off. Missed a couple of decent chances. But doesn't look like the right side suits him at all. Should be in the middle.

9 - Suarez. Another one who ran his heart to a standstill and panicked the City defence every time he had the ball. What _ a_ free_kick !

The Rodgers revolution is here and you would have to have been blind not to see it tonight.

Yeah agree,it was just a reaction that 99% of players would have done the same.
He supported the attack very well too and it was a far cry from the West Brom game.

Are you being serious, Frogs?

To me it looked he tried to control the ball before hoofing it.

I think 99% of players would not even dream of trying to control it in that position and would have just hoofed it .. which is what he should have done. I actually think he was far poorer in this game than last, both in attack and defence - which led to Enrique being brought on and Johnson switching to RB.

To me it looked he tried to control the ball before hoofing it.
It was very much a reactionary thing though.
The nick off Skrtel's head didn't help either.
He probably should have thrown his boot at it but he could have easily been un sighted by Reina.
I thought it was really unlucky.

Indeed.

I thought if Kelly simply stood aside, the cross would have bounced for a throw-in. At least that's how it looked on the telly.

Reina came for the cross and Skrtel headed it over him. no way is either goal Reina's fault.

First goal blame Kelly
Second blame Skrtel.

Blaming Reina is ridiculous

I thought when I first saw it in the game - it hit his belly and just landed at the feet of the scorer but looking at it again - I still don't think its his fault, it just hit his thigh and bounced to far away to quickly for him to do anything. NOT KELLY's Fault.

If you take the trouble to look at Kelly's reaction you will realise that it is KELLY'S FAULT. You think its a fucking coincidence that he was taken off straight afer the goal?

I think he was taken off because he is young and Rogers was probably worried that the incident may mentally affect him for the rest of the game. Not a good thing if you are a defender.

Kelly was atrocious today. He had no confidence going forwards (like he felt he wouldn't be able to track back if the attack broke down).
And he got skinned a couple of times at the back. His decision making was suspect. And he was at fault for Yaya's goal.
The lad was shite today. No doubt about it.
On the positive side, I really enjoyed Sterling's performance. I watched him at the game at Fenway Park against Roma and he looked - aptly - a boy amongst men. Today, her put in a very very encouraging performance. Well done.

That's a bit over the top. Kelly wasn't that bad.

Keepers should be commanding the box though, its reinas job to ensure Skrtel *doesnt* head it away

I don't think Kelly was that bad and I also think reina is just as much to blame on the first goal.

On a plus point, Allen was fucking superb, and although I don't like shelvey, I thought he had a great game.

2 small things I noticed.

Even Allen's headers found a team mate. Some of the headers from our defenders and midfielders were done without any thought on where to head. It was just 'head it anywhere'. I understand that they could be under pressure but when you're not, try to head it to a team mate please.

Enrique loves taking an extra touch before clearing the ball. Sort it out for goodness sake.

Reina 5.5 - did ok, but he's not the commanding, decisive keeper he used to be. lack of communication with his defenders for both goals we conceded has to be questioned.

Kelly 5.5 - started the game brilliantly and was much improved overall but his limitations came to the fore again.

Coates 7 - thought he was really solid. can knock off at times but he's a strong lad and very composed on the ball. fine game

Skrtel 6.5 - beast of a game up until the mistake which was a bad one. cracking goal and he'll bounce back.

Johnson 7 - i'm not his biggest fan but he did well today. ran his socks off down the left to support young Sterling.

Gerrard 5.5 - better than last week, more discipined and more involved. his wayward passing was disappointing tho.

Lucas - n/a

Allen 8 - great display. rarely wasted a ball and wasn't afraid to get stuck in. top player in the making if he isn't already.

Sterling 7.5 - looks a threat every time he gets the ball, he's a flying machine. such a mature performance for someone so young and it was great to see him tracking back and helping the defence too.

Borini 5.5 - he takes up clever positions and is a willing runner but his decision making can let him down. still it's early days so hopefully he'll sharpen up, no doubting his work-rate anyway.

Suarez 5.5 - world class free-kick but not one of his best days.

Subs:

Shelvey 7 - did really well. clearly has loads of confidence in his own ability, always wants the ball and isn't afraid of trying the spectacular. promising display.

Carroll - n/a
