If Toure plays like he did yesterday, then great, but I have little confidence that he will. He's just confused and confounded expectations too often. But it was great to see him do well. As for Can, I hope he's still getting back to full fitness because I'd hate to think he's normally that size, shape and speed. When he tried a powerful run forward yesterday he seemed to go backwards, like a music hall comic with his braces stuck on the doorknob. Harry Redknapp's Taarabt-ometer would have exploded.

I was a bit annoyed with Can at one point in the game, I think in the first half. He'd made a foray forward and then just jogged back slowly ultimately slowing down to a walk whilst Madrid had the ball in our half. He looked fucked too.

100%.
I commented on it in the match thread. Pissed me off at the time - the longer they had the ball the slower he moved like he was adamant he should have nothing to do with defending that move.

I thought he made up for it though in what followed. He's slower than Carra when it comes to twisting and turning but you can see there's a powerful runner in there.

Really bemused by him, We seem to be collecting exotic oxymorons: a technically clumsy defensive Brazilian, a meek and easily-spooked Serbian, and now an unfit and diffident German. I fear our scouts are trawling the J League for a wayward Japanese individualist.

Ha!

However, I thought Can did pretty well on the whole last night. He has obvious quality and belief in himself - that's a good start.

😀

Quite good.

Lucas deserves to keep his place, as does Toure. I'd keep the same back four, a diamond midfield of Lucas, Gerrard, Allen and Sterling, with Balotelli and Borini up front.

Id keep Toure in the team only if Costa is out of action and Chelsea are playing Drogba. The real concern is that Chelseas midfield 3 of Fabregas Matic and Ramires are full of running with Fabregas the brains of the outfit, while our midfield has been static and started standing off the opposition lately (Madrid game aside) if we cant shut Fabregas down then we will get picked apart. Id be inclined to let Henderson or Can go man to man on him and try close him out of the game. I think Sterling needs a rest as his decision making has been really poor lately and hes not getting into positions to isolate defenders and take them on. None of our strikers are anywhere near effective enough to play upfront on their own so Id go with Borini and Balotelli upfront

-------------------Mingolet-------------------
Manquillo---Skrtel---Lovren---Moreno
----Henderson--Lucas---Can---------
----------------Coutinho-----
-----------Borini-------Balotelli

mignolet, manquillo, toure, skrtel, Moreno Lucas coutinho lallana sterling balotelli lambert.

Coutinho CM.

The more central lallana and coutinho the better our creativity is....

Lucas is shit. But he's our best/only dm so he's got to play this one. Should free up gerrard to get a little further forward. Not sure if going 2 up top would leave us a bit vulnerable with chelski's midfield. But balotelli is bollocks by himself up top, so maybe drop him for Borini/lambert

I'd play Manquillo, Skrtel, Toure, Moreno at the back. Lucas as DM with Gerrard and Henderson in front of him. Sterling plays obviously and then maybe Lallana and Borini. I just don't know anymore.

Lovren has been so bad for us so far this year that I think Kolo needs to be starting. We badly need to start taking points, so a pragmatic approach is the way to go for me.

Mignolet
Johnson Skrtel Lovren Moreno
Gerrard
Hendo Allen
Coutinho
Balotelli Sterling

Is what Rodgers will pick

For what it's worth, I think we'll beat Chelsea.

Well we are at home with an extra days rest and gave half of our first team the night off on Tuesday so if we cant put up a decent fight against them then I really think we need to start looking at a massive clear out of this squad

I hope we start with a 7-3-0, because you can adapt it to a 5-5-0 if the full backs ever get outside their own box.

That's a pretty depressing line up.

That's a pretty depressing line up.

Pick one that isnt, we really dont have an inspiring squad and what confidence we had is all but gone, its about stopping the rot now, the performance in Madrid was totally lacking in ambition but if we went there and got hockeyed you could see our season going into freefall. We need to build from here and take something from the Chelsea game.

I have a sneaking feeling Sturridge will return for this game, maybe only to the bench, but return none the less.

Gerrard won't miss this one - and it will be a big game for him given the incident last season..

I think Lucas warrants a start but with Stevie playing I don't think they can both start unless Gerrard is put at the top of the diamond...

I think we'll see

-----------------Mignolet--------------
Manquillo---Toure---Skrtel---Moreno
------------------Gerrard-----------------
-----------Hendo-------Can-----------
------------------Lallana---------------
------------------Sterling---------------
------------------Balotelli----------------

I'd want to see

-----------------Mignolet--------------
Manquillo---Toure---Skrtel---Moreno
------------------Lucas-----------------
-----------Hendo-------Can------------
--Sterling--------------------------------
------------Borini--Balotelli------------

And just go with the fact that Can or Lucas will cover Moreno when we defend and that Sterling will always be down on flank and Borini or Balotelli like to drift wide.

Liverpool FC striker Daniel Sturridge looks set to miss Saturday's Premier League clash with Chelsea at Anfield.
The 25-year-old still hasn't returned to full training – three weeks after he suffered a calf injury. Sturridge did his rehab work away from the main group at Melwood today and is unlikely to feature against his former club.
The England frontman, who hasn't played for the Reds since August, should be fit to make his comeback away to Crystal Palace on November 23 following the international break.
