I've said this a couple of times now, but.. We're obviously not going to replace Suarez with any one player, we'd be daft to even think we could, but does anyone else think that it'll be Sterling who steps into Luis' shoes? He's got the tenacity, the will to harass players and he's got the talent to drive the team forward.

Absolutely. Suarez said as much aswell when he left I think.

I don't think we need somebody to replace Suarez, we just need to have the talent and performance to win enough matches. We had that extra bit of magic today, be it from Sterling or otherwise, which did the trick.

This constant talk of replacing Suarez in a like for like manner seems a bit too clingy.

But if we want somebody to develop into being *that* player for us, Sterling is far and away our best bet.

Yep agree with that. It's great that we can now count a number of players with a bit of magic to win us matches e.g. sterling, Sturridge, Balo, etc. in the past we had to rely on Owen, Torres to get us that win.

You've really just compounded my point Whirly, we can't replace Suarez, but we need to replace his hunger to press and put defenders under pressure. Sterling does that.

We can't pin our hopes on sterling simply cos he can't play all season though.

We seriously need to rest him more often than we'd like to.

He's too young to play every match.

He's fucking magic though. I said last season within two seasons he'll be the most valuable player in the league. He could be by the end of this season.

Yes, that's hopefully where Markovic will come in. He's had two very nice cameos, and I suspect he'll be a very handy player for us later on in the season.

We still miss that little bit of class that Suarez provided but I'm very happy with Sterling's contribution.

Rodgers in tonight's #motd2 interview: 'Raheem ran into the box like Ricky Villa and finished it like Ricky Gervais'

He's awesome. The talent and potential were always there but he seems to have matured massively in the past 18 months. I just hope the club can resist the huge bids that are going to come in for him before much longer.

We all know how good he is. Today was a simply awesome display - his willingness to tackle back, track runners and defend from the from the front, is simply superb. What a pity he didn't tuck that 4th away.

2 goals and 1assist in three games. Also the first goal on both occasions. Great start to the season for him.

So much this!

He looked proper pissed off when subbed on 85mins. A little sulky which BR didn't look too happy about.

Yes. I'm most surprised at how smart he is. He's learning tactical things at a phenomenal rate. In the reserves he had some great days and some quiet ones, and he showed promise without ever suggesting he'd develop this dramatically. It's a tribute to the coaching but especially to him. Hugely impressive.

Hes phenomenal.

I'm not sure he will get much better than he currently is (does he need to?) but if he can up his Conversion rate he will be a 50m player by summer 2015 window

i've said it before, but he is on the brink of greatness and in 2 yrs time will be one of the best players in the world.

I think his mind went a bit after that miss, he must have known immediately it would have been a brilliant goal and that he'd totally fucked it up at the last moment.

He already is a 50M player, let's be real here.

We wouldn't sell him for that anyways. If he keeps this up, it'd take a new transfer record to prise him away from us.

Sterling vs Spurs.

Slight digression - 4:50 mark of the Sterling clip. Can outmanoeuvres and outmuscles Dembele for a clearance, puts himself cleverly between ball and Dembele and holds him off as he goes midfield to midfield, then slips the ball to Sterling just as Dembele makes a last gasp challenge. Sterling's subsequent mazy run drew all the attention, but it started with that smart and strong piece of work by the Canqueror.

Glad to see him on the LW again. I remember Rodgers being very proud about playing him on the right because "that's where most of his goals came from". Seems like it was a move of a necessity cause it allowed him to break through when he wasn't the confident, mature performer he is now. He always looked better and more dangerous on the left as a kid to me. I look forward to his first hatrick.

The great thing is he is still a kid - get that fucking contract sorted please asap.

I think both Sterling and Sturridge have raised their games in the aftermath of Suarez.

They both have. Yesterday showed, and I think it's a testament to Sturridge's development as a player that he is already showing a good understanding with Balotelli.

As for Sterling, if that mazy run had ended in a goal, well ... Let's just say, I can see him repeating it with a better result.

Some of the things Sturridge did yesterday were Suarez-esque. That bit of play at the sidelines and the pass to Henderson to set up Sterling, and then one bit where he totally sold the Spurs defender (think it was Vertonghen) the wrong way before rasping in a shot from distance that just went wide. And before all that, receiving the pass from Gerrard, and then clipping a neat cross to Balotelli, goal on a plate stuff which Mario headed straight at Lloris. And then drawing defenders and passing to Allen to get the cheap penalty.

He was my MOM yesterday, very different and much-improved performance from his first 2 games this season.

Absolutely, I think having Balotelli drawing attention helped a ton too.

On that Sterling goal, I think Balotelli drew the attention of two defenders tracking back just enough to buy Sterling enough of a window at the back post for a tap in.

Me too, apart from his shooting it was a top notch perfrmance, really put a shift in too defensively. This team has some mad skills

I expected a step up by Sterling and Sturridge in Suarez's absence. This is only a start. Their interplay with Balotelli and Henderson and the other lads is something else. Everytime they get the ball, you expect something to happen..............and it usually does.
