We need a BIG player still to convince me and i'm sure everyone else here that we can push for the top 4 places.

Who knows whats in store....sadly think our spending is done this window.

I don't think we will get top 4. A defensive midfielder would help me to believe that we could challenge, but we aren't signing one. Our transfers are done.

I don't think, in his heart of hearts, even Rodgers knows how all the players he's brought in will fit into the team, and if some will do so at all. That's not to criticise him - it would be the same for any manager. The first few weeks, at least, will be slotting certain players in and out, moving them around, seeing who clicks with whom, etc etc.

We didn't have a DM the year we finished 2nd. No DM does not mean no top 4.

Having one single tactic i.e. trying to outscore the opposition, is naive and ultimately futile. Only my opinion. I just don't like the guy. Will be happy when he's gone.

I really don't like him. We should have let him go. But its almost written in the stars that we will be pipping City to 4th this year.

if you ask me we still haven't replaced Stevie G.....

If FSG want to make a statement then we need someone who could at least similarly replace him.... I know that's nigh on impossible....

I just dont trust Milner to play CM alongside Henderson for the whole season and it be good enough.... Milner to me is a better winger than CM.

We should be looking for a powerful passing player in CM for me, who the hell that could be is not known.

If we could buy Pogba he would be perfect but obviously that will never happen.

I think we're lacking class in midfield.

Henderson and Milner are high energy and can be pretty good at what they do on their day but they're both similar in a lot of respects and I don't see them dictating the tempo and flow of the match.

We've seen too often over the last couple years that when we're not on the front foot we really struggle as a team to get our shit together. There is no-one who can rise above the reactive shit, put his foot on the ball and regain control.

I don't think top teams loses themselves as often in games as we do. You can just see things getting from bad to worse and no-one seems to have any clue as to what to do other than perhaps to run around a bit more chasing shadows.

Maybe we will move further away from possession style football and go a bit more direct (particularly now that we have Benteke), which will provide more relief in those kinds of situations but we still look short on quality unless one of the existing lot steps up quite considerably.

Yes. A huge amount, I feel, will hinge on how well Can does when moved into midfield. He'll still need to improve come the end of the season, but if he pushes on well enough this time we could look much, much better.

There's no room for can. Milner and he do are undroppable for Rodgers.

We have the 8 hardest away matches in the first few months of the season and we can't expect Rodgers to pick an overly adventurous line-up for these matches.

I would think something like...................

...................................Ming..................................
Clyne..............Skrtel..............Sakho...............Moreno
............................Can.........Henderson.................
.............Firmino........Coutinho......Milner..........
..............................Benteke................................

Whereas in the home games we can be more expressive and rest/rotate one of Hendo/Can/Milner

...................................Ming..................................
Clyne..............Skrtel..............Sakho...............Moreno
............................Milner.........Henderson.................
.............Firmino........Coutinho......Lallana/Ibe..........
..............................Benteke................................

I think Lucas will - and should - play a lot of those tough away games as he's our only defensive midfielder. I don't think Can has the discipline yet to be a solid anchor in there. Rodgers' stubbornness regarding a defensive midfielder is infuriating.

I think that's oversimplifying the midfield. All midfield have two lines these days, and I suspect Rodgers is thinking of playing with 3;

1. Defensive mid or mids - Lucas or maybe Can on their own, or potentially Hendo and Milner dropping deep as a 2.
2. Roaming mids - Hendo, Milner, Allen.
3. Attacking mids - Countinho, Firmino, Lallana.

If you look at Milner, Hendo, Allen, Lucas in isolation then yeah it looks a bit same-y, but it'll rarely represent out entire midfield.

We'll play with more lines than Amy Winehouse.

I do agree with your 'no one to put their foot on the ball and control' bit though. Very true. I think Brodge thinks that's something we get around by sharing the load. Plus, I think he wants us to play on the counter attack far more this year which kinda negates the controlled playmaker role from your side.

It doesn't change the fact that we will fall apart again when Lucas gets his usual November injury. We have nobody around who can close the gaps like he can.

Can can't be ready. No chance. He was all over the place in the u21 worldcup for Germany. Not a chance.

Forget Allen.

It's not a Milner task. Nor is it a Hendo.

We are fucked if Lucas can't stay fit.

I wholeheartedly agree, but appreciate it's not the general consensus.

I can't help but feel that you are agreeing with me and having a Digne at me at the same time. Fair enough.

Not only is that not even remotely funny, but it's also entirely out of context for this discussion.

All round fail.
