Shaq Attack

Agree with @gkmacca on this - Shaq is the kind of fringe player that champions need. See United, Southamption, Barca for some performances he's put in. He has proven he can be a game changer and he comes on with enthusiasm every time. Yes he's injured too much, but he always gives impetus and end product.

But rightly or wrongly (only time tell as always) perhaps Klopp/the Club feel other players can offer that and more? The emergence of Curtis Jones for example, the signing of Jota, the improvements in Minamino. Etc etc

Absolutely, dumb as fuck this, he is a difference maker when he comes on and dare I say it a more direct creative force than most in our squad. I really dont get this.

Is a difference maker on 3 occasions out of the 70 odd matches played in that time period enough ? Oh but he didn't play In most of those matches ? Why was that ....

I'm not keen to see him go but I understand why we are shopping him if we feel we can get a good fee. With no movement on Origi, Wilson, Grujic, someone needs to balance the books.

What are the chances he'll be fit for the particular game we need him for?

Reasonably high, I would've thought. His record in previous seasons wasn't too bad. He seemed quite well in that Barca game, although I guess you would have preferred Harry Wilson to have taken part. Try again.

Are you that surprised? I'm definitely not. I get what you're saying about him being a potential difference maker in a one off game coming off the bench but Klopp/The Club won't keep him just for that purpose when they can get a decent fee (I'd presume) and get him off the wage bill.
FWIW, I think he's a brilliant little player on his day and I'll be sad to see him go, but it's been pretty obvious for quite some time now he's not in Klopp's plans so it was always likely he'd be gone sooner rather than later.

He's Klopp's Litmanen. As with Litmanen and Houllier, you just keep thinking, 'Why the fuck did you buy him in the first place???'

Being ok with him doesn't necessarily mean having Wilson. We have Jota and Minamino. Maybe Klopp prefers them. He was injured a lot last season. I'm a fan and wouldn't mind keeping him but Salah, Firmino and Mane were rarely injured over the last two years and you'd never have him ahead of any of them.

We have Jota and Minamino. Maybe Klopp prefers them.

Preferring is one thing. Having other options is another thing. If you want to strengthen a squad, you add options. If you want to weaken a squad, you reduce options.

Several players were out 'a lot' last season injured. Does Klopp want them out? Doesn't look like it. So that's not really relevant.

Klopp brought Shaqiri in calling it a 'no brainer'. It was much like Houllier bringing in Litmanen. Then both of them proceeded to behave as though they didn't like the player, and didn't want him. Again: what was the fucking point?

Think in every position shaq might play, we've strengthened. It's only rare when we do wholesale changes we struggle.

Maybe klopp is planning on using Jones and Elliot more this year.

Even when fit, shaq never got minutes. Always seemed like klopp didn't trust him

What if he is working within a budget. So he brought shaqiri in then didn't like what he saw entirely, and saw him as unreliable and far from indespinsible. Then he was presented with the option of getting diogo with shaq leaving and thought, yeah that's an improvement?

Maybe to provide cover until he had what he considered better cover? Or maybe Klopp reckons he got it wrong?

I said he was injured a lot last year as a reason for him not playing much, but you're deliberately being obtuse. FSG also seem to like to balance the books so possibly the money raised covers some of the losses for this year or signings made?

I like the little fella so would prefer to keep him but then understand the logic in selling.

I know fitness is the issue but like having him in the squad as an option. I would rather he come on than Minamino.

Unless you don't know how to construct a logically coherent sentence (or unless you have two separate accounts and got confused), I think you're being deliberately obtuse.

Oh so very good and sad at at the same time. @Woland liks Shaq just like me and I suspect that post was out of anger more so than just something we want to happen. Which is why I gave it a like.

On a personal note I think there were many games where Shaq would have been more effective in a game than having Bobby wonder around and being passive. We never got the chance to see what he could do long term with Mane and Salah which is a shame.

We will also be selling him for a profit.

This.

If we sell Shaq for more than we paid for him, given his injury record AND the proceeds go to bringing in someone like Sarr or Dooku - then I don’t see how we can be overly critical.

It seems like a good move.

That’s partly down to his injury record. He picked up injuries all the time meaning he can’t build up that long spell in a team.

I think he gets injured a bit too often, & as he's destined to a be a bit part player that means you're paying for a potential sub who you can't necessarily rely upon.

I get the impression that Klopp doesn't like the way the team plays when he's on the pitch, & I'm not sure he can fix that without breaking what shaq brings to the table.

Lastly, i think we're all forgetting that Klopp has stated many many times, that he only wants a small squad. The idea of keeping so many players happy who won't play & having that same team mentality isn't something I think he finds compatible.

That, plus obvious wage restraints, means players have to go.

These are the reasons I'm ok with shaq going. His best games have come in games where we have to win, where our system isn't exactly focused on defence. His pressing consistently left a lot to be desired, and that's the crucial part of klopps gameplay.

Extremely talented, but when you start more talented players who press effectively, it's hard to break in to the team

They can't swap myths whenever it suits them. They usually like to claim that every signing only comes after the most intensive research about everything from physical data to personality testimonies, and yet in this case the signing is depicted as some kind of absent-minded affair, followed by surprise and bewilderment. It's complete and utter bollocks.

In one of his very first games, he came on late and closed down opponents all over the place, playing a major role in ensuring we hung on to a narrow win. His work rate in later games was always very good. And the idea he can't or won't make progress at fitting into new tactical patterns is completely contradicted by his past performances at other big clubs. He's been wasted here pretty much from day one, and for celebrated coaches the coaching team and the manager need quite a bit more criticism for allowing that to happen.

He had a good game against Lincoln, there is nothing to suggest he has got over his injury problems. The club needs to sell players, a decent offers come in for him, its just one of those things. Not particularly fussed he is going. I would like to see the other two walking sick notes leave too, Matip and Ox, and get possibly Sarr/Daka and a couple CBs, but thats for Jan.
