What a strange thread. You make it sound like everyone wants to have a massive clearout in January and only having to pick 3 to go is a problem.
Obviously it rather depends on why we would be selling doesn't it? If we are trying to fund a new striker then it makes sense getting rid of the players who will raise the most and also wouldn't be needed, so Babel and Voronin might as well both join Dossena, who is a given.
If we are not buying anyone, and selling just to trim the wage bill or something then I'd probably keep Babel and get rid of Degen

Skrtel played with our best defender last season and did exceptionally well, we almost won the league remember? The defence itself, regardless of personnel, has looked a shambles all season, we were lucky not to concede a couple yesterday through slack marking.

The only valid point you make is that Carra and Skrtel are similar in style and should not play together as first choice. The fact that he played an integral role for the Slovaks as they topped a tough World Cup group ahead of Poland and Czech Republic belies your theory that he's useless.

Our defence with Skrtel in it was a whisker away from last season's title, and no-one becomes a bad player over the course of a summer. It would be equally easy to point to mistakes from other players in other games this season - they've all made them, Agger included. I forget who it was who said that the man who doesn't make a mistake can't make anything, but that's essentially Lucas' problem. It takes all he's got to avoid mistakes, and even then he doesn't always manage it.

The only way I could be tempted to let Skrtel fly was if we were to snap up someone having a few more of the attributes Sami brought to the table. We really need a powerful defender capable of winning headers against the best (and strongest) opponents.

The only way I could be tempted to let Skrtel fly was if we were to snap up someone having a few more of the attributes Sami brought to the table. We really need a powerful defender capable of winning headers against the best (and strongest) opponents.

Personally I don't see the point in selling Lucas to be honest (unless someone would actually pay more than just a few pounds for him which I doubt).
