Sadio Mane

Why isn't it? Have a look at our recent transfer strategies. Kenny, Rodgers and now Klopp have all been in charge while we've paid well over the odds for Premiership players. They can't all be at fault, surely? The one constant is that fucking useless committee of non-football bellends.

Can we blame the owners for providing the cash? The transfer strategy and targets surely drops with the manager.
Kenny wanted Carroll, Downing and Adam etc. Rodgers wanted Benteke, Lovren, Lallana.

It was reported today that Rodgers said no to Mane 2 years ago. The transfer strategy and plan Rodgers had was non existent in all honesty. The first team and squad looked very unbalanced to say the least.

Its not a bashing of the old manager, just to make that clear.
Maybe FSG's mistake is that they didnt get a proper football man in as DoF from the start.

Loads of figures about re the transfer fee.
Seems like its 34,5 mill upfront and then could reach 36,5-38,5 if we reach the Champions league etc.

Hmm, pretty hefty fee that. Overpaying by maybe 5-7 mill but I guess thats the norm with the new TV deal.

Klopp didnt think Texeira was worth 38,5 mill so hopefully he's right about spending 34,5 mill on Mane.

When we turned down Mane we had Sterling, we also had an emerging Jordan Ibe and Coutinho, so we had options. There wasn't necessarily a need for a winger. And yes we can blame the owners, they set up the committee and they've sanctioned the deals.

If he goes 17 games without scoring like he did last season then he won't be given the chance to justify the fee.
It's clear as day that we need more goals from midfield but he's going to have to hit the ground running from day one or it's just going to be another resigned to the shit heap of overpriced flops that's littered Anfield for the past decade.

Didnt we buy Lallana and Markovic that summer though? Who both were played out wide?
.

RB Salzburg included a 20% sell-on clause (min £6m) in Mane's contract. Therefore Southampton demanded more money. #LFC

Who bought who though? Rodgers clearly wanted Lallana, who could play across the attack and, on paper at least, added a creative alternative and foil for Coutinho (I don't agree it was a good fee, who does?). Markovic though?

Buying Lallana for the wide role and alternative to Coutinho is fine. I agree there. The fee was to much but I think we all agreed about that.

Markovic is another matter. Are you saying this was a committee signing and not Rodgers? I dont agree with that in all honesty.
Every signing was surely made by the manager in the end. No matter how much the committee rated either Mane or Markovic.

So every Merseyside based journo is saying 30 mill while its 34-38,5 mill from the Soton end. Hmmm

How quickly did Firmino "hit the ground running" and is he considered a success yet, undecided or a flop for his price tag?

Same with Lallana? (he picked up his game a lot in the second half of the season and has continued playing well in the Euros).

I think you can only judge a player over the length of his contract. He might start off poorly and then become a good player.. conversely, he might start off on fire, but then turn out to be a flop.

With Mane and with Klopp, I'm optimistic.

This is Jurgen's first big signing and I think it's a good one. He's a very dangerous player waiting to explode. I was very nervous when I heard United were in for him last summer.

I think with consistency, belief and good management, Mane could for us what Mahrez did for Leicester last year. Lallana, Coutinho, Firmino and even Sturridge to an extent (now his pace has diminished a little) are all skillful players like to play "samba football" which buys half a yard of space, but they don't always have the pace to get away from players. Mane, has got good ball skills but he's also got the directness to just kick it past a player and run. Within any team, you need that balance of both. I'm backing him to be a success overall (if not immediately).

Find it a shame the fee is all that's being talked about and not the player.

If the club and Klopp are happy to pay it what's the issue?

I'm excited. I'm really looking forward to seeing him play for us and what Klopp does with him. He's young, PL proven (well enough for me anyway) Brings goals and is a bit different to what we have had before. I love a new signing. Especially ones that are 2nd only in the most we've ever paid for one. It would take an embittered soul with a black heart and one that has lost his childlike glee for all things LFC to say otherwise. Bah and humbug to such souls. I'll get swept up in awesomeness of a new signing and cheer him on as I do any other player that signs.

Fuck logic and all the FIFA playing naysayers that worry about stats and other such bollocks. You never know (those who pretty much are just guessing anyway) He might just turn out to be good.

Hooray for this post

Did I say he's a cunt already?

I think so. Is there a specific reason? Something about trying to force a move out of his previous club?

I'm more concerned that some Southampton fans think he can be bit of a dozy twat, on and off the pitch.

So basically it's £30million with £4-8million in add ons.
What I was going to post.

"In a deal worth 34m" is the usual phrase used by the press cos it sounds bigger.

I'm not entirely convinced, but I fucking love quick strikers (with the exception of Cisse the Perpetually Offside) so fuck it, it's not my money.

It'd be nice if we could buy the odd player from a different club though.

[vnsfw][/vnsfw]I was in favor of this until red Astaire used the much maligned phrase "PL proven".

This means He's going to be another Keano, Benteke, Carroll, Crouch,

Just kidding. Who knows. Is Remy available?

Well in fairness I did add the suffix "well enough for me anyway" - You've been on here long enough to know I know bugger all about footy stuff @localny . I am knowledgeable enough though to know I like it when we score and hate it when we concede. It's a simple game really don't you think? 😉

I'm interested to see how Mane can contribute in the positive to my footy equation.
