When he signed for West Ham I remember a thread with a lot of people asking who he is, where has he come from etc. Same over twitter, the press etc. When the general consensus is "Who is Payet?" or "Let me look him up" rather than "West Ham have signed Payet" then that confirms the point that he is "largely unknown" which is what I said.
Twatter rumours we may be in for him again.
It's a bit hard to quantify, given how some people watch - or pretend to - lots more football than others, so maybe he was quite well know in some circles, but there wasn't exactly loads of people on this - or any other site - saying "LFC SHOULD SIGN PAYET" last summer.
Or Kante, for that matter.
Or Lallana before we signed him. Or Firmino. Or Markovic. Or Balotelli. Or Downing. Or Carroll. Or.....actually quite a few people wanted Clyne. Me included.

If Klopp wants Mane (which clearly he does) surely we should back him and his decision?
Does that include LFC players who have only been at the club one season? Because Benteke has scored more than that in the last two seasons.
Mind you, even if you just look at last season, he's scored more Premiership goals than Lallana, Coutinho, Origi and Firmino. Although that isn't hard.
No idea. It's an OPTA stat - hard to imagine them getting it wrong so we probably need a criteria definition. PL only goals I'm sure.

Sane has better options, and would cost more than £34m.
I'm not that bothered about the fee. Certainly less bothered than I was when we bought Lallana, Downing, Carroll and whoever else.
I know that isn't exactly a ringing endorsement, but anyway. I think mane ticks plenty of boxes and is what we need (in theory, anyway!): speed, goals, can play out wide.
Better options yes, better team and coach to get him to the next level, doubtful.
I suppose that depends on where he ends up. And he's already at a pretty high level.
Either way, he'd be mad to join us when so many other better clubs who can win titles are also after him.
Erm, I've already said I like him, and what he can do, but I've only seen him play maybe four or five times. And he usually scores against us.
It's hard to be confident enough to say "great signing" because we've been disappointed too often. But based on what I've seen, he's better than Firmino, Lallana and Origi.
It's been a while - since Sterling left - that we've had a player who can really burn away from the opposition. He's quick.

Well, he's played quite a bit as a winger, or slightly behind Pelle. I think he's certainly more of an attacking midfielder/ winger than a "proper" striker. Or he was at Saints anyway.

His goal tally might drop a bit next season though, given he scored at least three of his goals against us.
