Post Match Thread - Watford: Put your bitchin' in here.

You seriously need to let go of the top four thing. It's going to be easier on you in the long run.

I tend to look at things and form my own opinions especially when less than half the season has elapsed, and but for a few teams, there seems to be little in the way of form from any of the teams especially the usual suspects.

I think you should let go of the defeatism, it's going to be easier for you in the short, medium and long term.

After Man City certain people were talking about the title and I said we are are getting ahead of ourselves big time.
Now it's clear so at least people can get back down to earth

Frustrating to think of what we're capable of and yet we yo-yo like crazy isn't it?
As poor a performance as anything seen in the last 10 years. Abject and embarrassing. Makes all the delirious chatter of Top 4 or even a title challenge look risible and rancid.

I had large concerns when I saw the teamsheet, similar to how I felt before the Newcastle game, and this was even worse. Klopp needs a gigantic amount of money to spend, because this squad isn't good enough to make the Top 4.

Bogdan (3) I've never rated him above Mongolet, and that opinion was reinforced within 3 minutes. A calamitous joke and fortunate to only concede three.

Skrtel (4) a blessing for him when he went off, as he was getting brutalised by Watford's attack.

Sakho (2) one of the worst defensive displays I have ever seen. Clumsy, sloppy, awkward, brainless. Utter shit from start to finish, Watford will wish they can play him every week

Clyne (5) no attacking quality, but at least he can run and change direction. Without falling over. Poor final ball.

Moreno (6) some poor decisions at times, but he never gave up and offered some threat in attack.

Lucas (2) so embarrassingly far away from the required standard, it was almost funny. Weak, slow, poor passing, he's easily the worst defensive midfielder in the Premiership and should never ever play for Liverpool again. A joke.

Can (3) passing was as accurate as khat-chewing Congolese boy soldier shooting an AK into the jungle. And as dangerous. He was a clumsy, useless twat, lumbering around midfield ineffectually like a bear looking for picnic scraps in Dumpsters

Henderson (5) some nice long passing and one of our better players, but he's not good enough to ever really change the course of a game, and his personality doesn't scream 'leader of men'

Coutinho (4) fact is, tragically, is that he is one of our most talented and important players. That's depressing really. Didn't look arsed.

Lallana (2) such a total anodyne non-entity. No goals - which is standard - but offered no pace, threat, bottle or attacking threat. A spineless shithouse

Firmino (2) kept up his usual form. Will never make it, because he's not very good. He's fucking useless actually.

There's no fucking way we have a worse squad than Watford, West Ham, Palace and Leicester....and those 4 sides sit above us.

It's easy to say after that horror show 'we're not good enough for top 4' and suchlike and yeah we have some real problem areas that need addressing and not to mention some bang average players but I don't go along with this notion we don't have a squad capable of fighting it out for top 4.
Not in a season as wide open as this and a League which is evidently short of quality throughout.
Yeah, but I suppose you can't ever really account for so many great individual performances, consistently, at some of those clubs, Leicester being the most obvious example.

And I admit that pre-Klopp, I was pretty happy with the business we did this summer, especially compared to the previous one, because I rated Benteke, Clyne, Milner. Firmino was an unknown for me, given I think I may have seen him play once at most, and he's been utterly shit.

But the biggest issue is not so much individuals, but rather the spine of the team. I wanted Rodgers sacked in summer, and the appointment of a much superior manager in Klopp was brilliant, but that spine hasn't been addressed, and that's worrying. We need a new keeper, a new DM to ensure Lucas never plays again, a quick attacker to replace Sterling and put Lallana back in the bench where he belongs,a new CB because I've never ever been cinvinced by Sakho either. Or Lovren.

A maybe even another striker, although Ings is on his way back eventually

It is hard to accept that fucking Palace and Pardew are better than us right now, and I wouldn't swap their squad for ours, but it's finer details in this league, and we would certainly be hugely improved by several players who are currently at Clubs like Place, West Ham, Leicester and Watford.

Don't get me wrong, both the defence and the attack were fucking poor (special mention for one of the protected on here Martin Skrtel who managed the impossible, by getting gang-fucked by a single individual...alright Ighalo had a prod at him too, so maybe a pair count as a gang. And then in the SCM theme of the week, totally shit-housed out of it) but is it not becoming more and more apparent that the midfield is the biggest problem?

With Henderson back we certainly showed a little more dynamism but he was understandably rusty, however that's easily Cans worst game in a red shirt, and Lucas was horrific too. The attack don't get the ball when and where they want it, so when it does eventually appear try to force things and end up looking even shitter than they would do on their own; meanwhile, the defence isn't getting any real protection and are expected to knock the ball around aimlessly whilst their midfield colleagues either stand 2yrds away from them or hide behind the opposition.

Coutinho, Lallana and Firmino were all total garbage but they weren't exactly blessed with service - "feeding off scraps" as Martin Tyler would inevitably garble out.

Another match like Newcastle where you'd struggle to pick three players for our season ratings, and for the first time in 2 decades I find myself aligned with Barnesy - when we're really 100% at it we can steamroller almost all teams, but when we're anything less than that do we have the character to grind out a result? Looks like the answer is a resounding "no" at the moment.

To my mind where that grinding out originates is in the midfield. I'm not sold on Henderson as a primary playmaker, although he almost definitely keeps his place (longer term captaincy has to be queried however) but Lucas after a brief resurgence has regressed back into the walking dead - completely reliant on those around him to create any positivity in play and get the lead, so that his defensive midfield marshalling can come to the fore; Can looks like a teenager with bags of natural ability, but for whom a football position hasn't been invented yet; Milner for all the pleading and protestation looks distinctly below average as a centre mid option (although to be fair his entire all round game looks pretty shit at the mo); and Allen flatters to deceive occasionally, but is essentially lightweight in body, spirit and application.

Goalkeeping and midfield crisis ago-go Herr Klopp - which probably means fight like fuck for the league cup, write the rest of the season off for managerial fact finding, and then rebuild the entire spine of the team in the summer with a GK, quality CB, at least one central midfielder and possibly two, and either gamble on Sturridges long term health or get in an alternative first choice 9.

Hello Everyone

I have read most of the responses in this thread - and I agree with most points other than the ones which target individual players as the cause of todays result. I look forward every week like many of you to watching our team play but today our team reached a new level of shitness that I cannot comprehend. They were never at any moment implementing the Klopp philosophy of football - it was as if they had a spice boys night out before this game. There was a complete lack of drive, or will to get at the opponent, and that inability to create clear chances.

Many of you here are all about giving certain specific players chances to show what they can do - Firminio being one of them. I think one of our biggest problems at the moment is that when he plays - we are effectively playing with 10 men; the guy does absolutely nothing of any note and if I am honest he only shined in the Man City game because of the utter poor defensive display by City rather than any great ability, because the simplest skills he can do were too much for city on that day. Bottom line is - he should be dropped and Origi should start - at least he provides visible movement.

I think with regards to Coutinho's performance - I actually give Watford credit for taking him out of the game rather than him having a mega-bad day. Granted the 2nd Goal was Skrtel's fault but the third was Can's fault. If you look - you will see that he had the ball in their half and was just sitting on the ball for too long before being dispossessed, and they went onto score their 3rd goal. This was about a single player just holding onto the ball and thinking for too long - no realization that he had a sidewinder behind him about to blow him away - I am sure that Klopp wants the transition to be immediate but the movement was lacking at times.

Our players are better than they showed today, and against Newcastle - these are games we expect LFC to win despite the issues our rivals are experiencing. Had we won the last 3 games we would be in the top 4 today. Every week I look forward to us and still do in the hope that we will destroy a team by using the intensity our coach demands of his teams, but right now it just ain't happening. The idea was possession that counted for something, but right now it seems its possession that counts for shit.

Kind Regards,
MORON

I've not been interested in possession stats. They are irrelevant.

So all back home and the inevitable shit sandwich has been served up for supper. What a barrel full of bollocks we are. I'm not even going to watch it. I saw the last 10 mins of the first half in a bar and I was so annoyed at fucking Sakho titting about I damn near threw my smorgasbord at the screen.

I've not been interested in possession stats. They are irrelevant.
I am not - I was just stating a statistic that they seem to hold onto the ball and dominate possession but are doing fuck all with it. The Klopp idea I was told from many wise people on this site was making possession count by being direct. In today's game we demonstrated we could do that for about 10 minutes in the second half before we turned to shit again.

As I said before, keep our high expectations in check.
I choose to trust in Klopp as he is still learning, dont' turn from believers to doubters.

I'm thoroughly pissed off with that performance.

I'm in a good mood cos I've had a nice birthday weekend (that performance aside), but that game was dogshit.

We didn't have enough effort, enough fight, or enough talent.

I truly hope that Klopp can identify a few players to come in January & replace many of those who played today, & I hope he beats he shite out of some of those cunts, or finds out how to trigger them to fucking wake up.

Until then, I want him to get whatever players he plays putting in maximum effort again.

Everything he has said in every interview I've read has been about hard tackling & full throttle football, giving no quarter. That's two performances we have seen that are the antithesis of that ideal.

I expect to see a reaction. Even if it's as blatantly futile as dropping every one of them & playing a youth filled side against Leicester, or giving every one of them a shoeing, taking all their leave days away over Xmas & having them in training or watching videos of their performances every day.

That has been our problem for a long time now - low expectations for a team that has 5 European Cups to its name. Only in this country is it an issue - but you go to Europe and ask the likes of Barca, Real Madrid, Juventus, AC Milan, Bayern, Porto blah blah - any top team that has a rich history - ask their fans to have trimmed/low expectations and they will say "Fuck Off we are so and so". You know what ? - it works for them, they are always challenging always competing for the top prize. We on the other hand are a special fucking shit case.

Well, not low expectations but just being more realistic. Over here in Singapore, you could hardly spot a sky blue jersey in the crowd before
Man City clinched the first EPL title, now getting more. Many of our local Liverpool die hard fans are in their 40s & 50s who have been keeping faith in the Reds instead of turning into glory hunters, the tribal feelings are not as strong as in England tough.

Well we were utter shite.

The only glimmer was the start to the 2nd half where we looked at least up for the fight.

Klopp has a lot of work to do but I fancy us to beat Leicester

If we display the same sort of performance we did today against Leicester then I really hope the whole of Anfield just give shit to our players - because right now they really deserve a fucking grenade up their arses for the shit we have had to endure this season in the PL. How can they expect us to support them when they show no fight, effort, or any form of intelligence in their play ? - despite our failures as a club we are still a big club who deserve better from our players every time they put on that shirt. It was pathetic today - really pathetic, comedy of errors for each goal conceded. Even if we crawl up to equal those teams occupying CL places - the result today really fucked up our goal difference ( in case your wondering it is -2), which is what I think it will come down to.

It was kinda embarrassing watching Lucas and Lallana be that awful. Might be an L thing. Maybe if we sacrifice the pair of cunts and Lovren to the L god things will pick up. Either way it'll get shut of the fucking mongs so it's worth a try.

I like the cut of your jib Gary and you are right but on today's showing the man with no name has it fairly banged to rights - particularly on fucking Lucas - when will everyone wake up to this - he's as weak as a woman's piss - yes yes yes they were all shite but Lucas? FFS.
That is the area we need sorting first and foremost a combative no-nonsense midfielder to play alongside Hendo who can actually tackle and support us going forward and defensively. Sell Can , Allen and give Lucas away if we need to and buy someone.

Agreed.

We can talk about tactics, team selection and so on all day long and they undoubtedly play a big part but the manner in which we've lost/drawn games in the last 18 months or so has been fucking rotten, and loads of them against poor to average sides.

Off the top of my head since start of 2014 season: Lost twice to Villa, twice to West Ham, twice to Newcastle, 3 times to Palace, lost to Watford, drew with Sunderland, Hull, Blackburn Bolton, Norwich and Carlisle at Anfield.
Most if not all of them results have been deserved as well...the players mentality, desire, commitment etc just has to be questioned as a result. It's like they turn up and expect to roll these teams over because we're Liverpool and they're Watford or Norwich. Shameful .

We just simply struggle when we have to take the game to the opposition that sits back, stays compact and plays on the counter.

We did well vs City & Arsenal because they play attacking football which gives us space to counter into.

Last night was just fucking woeful and embarrassing.

Will be much better after a couple of transfer windows. Not worried at all. Rafa needed a couple of windows to get things right and learn the league. Klopp already IMO know what the squad need. The headless chickens will be sold and replaced with players with great game intelligence.

It isn't easy for some of the players to perform when some of our players acts like headless chickens on the pitch.

I'm not sure I understand the finer details of this post, but I'm in general agreement with the overall gist

I think Klopp should have started with Origi – without a pacy striker like that it's very hard to stretch a defense and we made it way too easy for them in the 1st half. Other than that I think this was the best team we can put out there at the moment, let's sum up our players' efforts:

Desperately disappointing:
Bogdan – a nervous wreck. It was a foul on him, however, for the first goal. No chance on the 2nd or 3rd.
Lucas – very, very slow
Lallana – offered nothing
Coutinho – surprisingly, also offered nothing. I think Watford did a good job neutralizing him, but a player of his talent and importance in the team HAS to find a way break out of a trap

Poor:
Clyne – kept making the same stupid mistakes in the attacking phase of the game
Sakho – objectively the worst performance of anyone on the pitch, but he clearly was rusty and far from ready after the injury lay-off, so gets somewhat of a pass
Firmino – he actually started well, I thought, but then faded together with his teammates after the 2nd goal. He is probably one of those players who play well when the team plays well.

OK:
Moreno – he tried
Can – other than the mistake for 3rd goal, I thought he played well, winning several crucial tackles and 50/50 challenges. We would have been 3:0 down much earlier if not for him.
Hendo – played several really gorgeous passes, shame that his teammates couldn't make them count. He is not 100% yet, but looking better with each game he starts.
Skrtel – I was frustrated with his role in 2nd goal, but after watching it again I think he was right not to dive in. He tried to stay with Ighalo to make the angle more difficult to score, but the shot was just too precise for both him and Bogdan.

Good:
Origi – bright and lively, too bad he couldn't squeeze in a shot like Ighalo did.

The most disappointing thing about this loss is definitely the mentality of our players. With the exception of Can and a couple of others, we just couldn't deal with the psychological blow of conceding in this manner in the 1st minute. 2nd goal was just brilliant execution and suddenly our players lost all confidence. This is a game that exposed a lack of character in much of this team; lots of things for Klopp to think about now.

Good post and I agree with most of it. I think Skrtel probably should be in the poor section though. Constantly positioning himself behind the rest of the back four is just not good enough at over 30 and supposed to be one of our top two CBs.
I think he's a big part of the defensive problem and has to be replaces as a starting CB going forward.
