1. No proven striker, no penetration. While it's still too early to judge but if we were to based it on today's game, we WILL struggle to score goals. Suarez isn't the type of who scores for fun. Borini is a rookie and isn't first team material yet. It's flipping obvious.

2. Sahin - not the best of debuts and seems a bit rusty. Lethargic even. I dunno much of him and have seen nothing special from today's performance, but it's still too early to say. Verdict's still out.

3. Gerrard - Captain Marvel's showing signs of decline ? I've got too much respect for him to not give him the benefit of the doubt. But he looks jaded and discouraged, probably in realization that it's gonna be yet another season of false dawns and despairing hopes, and having to carry the team on his weary shoulders once again. I don't blame him.

4. Allen - quality player but i feel for him as he sees his previous teammates playing with such freedom, flair and joy, AND scoring for fun, while his new team plays as if each person is learning how to pass for the first time. It's not supposed to be this way but......He probably thought he joined the new 'Barca' but....

5. Raheem Sterling - what a breath of fresh air ! Future's bright for this lad but you kinda fear that the lack of form of our team will stunt his growth....hopefully we will manage him well.

6. It's true what Brendan said. There's LOTS and LOTS of work to be done to get these group of players to play 'tiki-taka'. Firstly, we don't have the personnel for the system. Secondly, you need time and money to get the right players in. But first and foremost, we will have to clear off the expensive mess at our club. Mess such as Joe Cole, Downing, etc. And that's gonna take time. I'm not expecting anything out of this season, just as long as we build well.

Conclusion - I have faith in Brendan. He plays and approaches the game with the right attitude but with his approach, he is building more of a legacy rather than providing a short-term fix. And legacies never get built overnight. A bit like how Shanks instilled in this club the pass-and-move concept. The question, however, is in today's game, will the owners and fans afford Brendan the time and patience he will require ?

We need a goalscorer, end of.. We have needed one since Torres went shit..

Till we get one.. the only was is down i'm afraid..

The team cannot move forward till we do...

I think it's also safe to say it's time to look for a new keeper too.

Reina has been playing poorly for a very long time now. Since Torres and Rafa left, he's never looked the same. I remember I heard somewhere that his fav coach left - could this be also the reason he's been under performing ?

Our decision making was awful today. Instead of probing and probing until they made a mistake we either kept crossing it to absolutely no-one in the box (why cross it so much to Suarez who is fucking tiny compared to Vermaelen?)

We continually panicked under pressure which led to the goals we conceded. Instead of playing how we did against City where we pressured them high up the pitch, we sat back more and let them dictate much more of the play.

We miss Lucas badly, made very little sense giving away Spearing on loan, it wasn't like he was on massive wages. None of our midfielders sat in front of the defence and picked off loose balls well, as Diaby did excellently for Arsenal.

Sahin doesn't look match fit yet to me. Undoubtedly he's a quality player but he was pretty invisible today.

Reina could have done better with both goals, and dropped another late on which he was lucky to get a free-kick for. Needs a kick up the arse badly.

Downing did well when he came on. Looks much more reassured on the ball recently and seems a bit more confident.

Shelvey clearly has a future but needs to iron out his flaws fairly quickly (the stupid tackles, the lazy passes, the lack of tracking back at times)

Sterling was very good on the left, he drags the opposition over to mark him (they had 3 on him at one point) which we need to take advantage of. Most of our movement was fucking appaling today, we were really static.

Gerrard needs to be benched for Shelvey.

Pacheco should get a chance.

Borini is not ready.

We need pace / a dribbler in the centre.

This is a very good summary of things, MBBR.
I agree with your conclusion and indeed the question is - will he be given time.
I know I'd give him

1. Well, I think strikers are all going to shoot low around Reina now because he can't get down for them any more. Sorry but we should have sold him years ago. At this point it might be better to just keep him as back up because he won't go for much and at least he's experienced.

2. Allen looks like a great player.

3. We won't see the best of Sahin for months but he's going to play a lot anyway.

4. There was a Lucas sized hole in the midfield today.

5. Gerrard improved as the game went on and wasn't that bad.

6. Arsenal attacks mainly started with Suarez. He loses the ball more than Luis Garcia used to and is a worse finisher. No points for nutmegs and good turns unfortunately.

7. Sterling was amazingly good.

8. Shelvey was also great when he came on and probably should have started.

9. Borini is making Downing look like a ruthless winger. He looks like he's playing out of position.

10. We only pressed well some of the time. At others we just let them play around us.

We need time for someone to form an understanding with Suarez like Maxi and Meireles did. Gerrard can at times but he's so inconsistent these days you don't know if Stevie or Paul is going to show up. As good as Sterling is, he still hasn't clicked with Suarez yet like M&M have; it's like we have Sterling being brilliant on one end, and Suarez on a good day (not today) being brilliant on another, and they play on different teams.

Everyone needs to be issued with a Joe Allen poster and told to kiss it and wank to it everyday with the ball between their feet, so they remember what it means by loving the ball and taking good care of it.

Not sure what we can do to Reina. Maybe he needs to wank less so he has steadier hands.

I was half expecting us to lose. The 'high' of playing well against Man City raised expectations and it's too early to say we can play that way consistently. Too many playing their debuts under a new system (some look unfit, some not quite sure how the system works) - naturally losing Lucas and not bringing in a 3rd striker is going to hurt.

It's going to take time and patience is called for.

Both of those managed it in a couple of games.

True that; I suppose their intelligence and experience helped a lot, whereas we've got two rookies (well sort of, in Borini's case) flanking Suarez.

I feel sorry for Suarez. Sure he was abysmal today but he has had to do so much for himself game to game for the last season, whereas in that half season when they played, Maxi and Meireles made his job easier.

Reina could have done better with both goals, and dropped another late on which he was lucky to get a free-kick for. Needs a kick up the arse badly.

So lucky, he caught the ball and dunked it on Podolskis head. Pretty much agree with everything else you said too, Brendan has a job on sorting this out.

That's as good a summary as I've seen in months.

Might have been a little harsh on Pepe since I'm not convinced he's a spent force yet but, otherwise, spot on Gene.

Still can't get my head around the idea of not replacing carroll, it was obvious we we're crying out for a striker..

He wasn't the right height. He had the wrong hair. It was wrong to have him as an option. Under any circumstances. It's not rocket science.

i agree with all of your post but i thought id highlight this, you're completely right, hope the fans give him time, i know i will

What do you mean, 'if'?? The team has a pattern of play. Even if it drags them down to relegation, they'll play it.
