It will be an interesting midweek. Bayern seem to be flying at the moment and we have been utterly wank on our European travels this season. Last season away int he last 16 was another story though, but I assume we will not see such a scoreline this time around. How will Klopp approach this game? We need to score whatever happens the other way, and I don't think this game will be a 1st goal can cruise it. However first goal will be important and we should really start the game by pressing high.

Flying out there tomorrow morning. Not been in Munich before, but the Hofbräuhaus is probably a place to visit. Anyone else going?

Weird one.

My heart says I don’t care if we go as out as I don’t think we can win the league and want another run at winning the CL with no great sides this season.

My head says we can’t win the league anyway so let’s go through.

One thing for sure, we have to improve drastically from our form away this season.

Win it, winning games is what we need at the minute. Let's get some momentum.

I struggle to see us winning this, truth be told.

I think if we go through we do it with a score draw. The only way I can see us going through with a win is if Salah suddenly finds his top form & bangs a couple in.

Im really looking forward to it, but I'm genuinely nervous, though not nearly so much as I would be usually thanks to the procession of 'Cup finals' we've been playing in the league!

I’m not nervous at all. We aren’t expected to go through and it’s a bit of a free hit.

Yup, I'm going with my eldest son.

They will attack us, won't they - at home, on a great run of form in the league, seeing us struggle to score? Defending for long periods isn't ideal for us but it should open space up for Mane and Salah to run at their defenders. I think we have a shot.

Oh we have a shot. With our front three & our defence we can beat 95% of teams on any day, & the other 5% on our best days.

Unfortunately our current form isn't great, esp two of the front three (mane being the exception obv) being maddeningly inconsistent lately.

I'm not so sure Bayern will just come out an attack us. Everyone else seems to think they'll do exactly that, so I'm probably wrong, but I think they'll try to turn into as short an actual competitive match as possible, either by attacking for the first twenty minutes to try to score & then sitting back regardless of whether they do, or sitting back & trying to kill the game like they did at Anfield, either scoring on the counter or going full on attack in the last twenty.

What I can't see them doing is simply attacking & leaving themselves open for long periods of the match.

I expect same as Sunday but with Milner in for Lallana - which might feel unfair but I expect Adam isn't fit enough for this and may be saved for the Fulham game.

What I don't want to see is a Fabinho - Hendo - Gini midfield.

I agree. This is not the game for that midfield no matter how important we feel it is to control the ball.

Part of me thinks the CL would be good for Naby, plus he knows this stadium and the opposition. However it is going to be a game for fighters and I don't yet feel he is that guy. Maybe its Shaq time, if he isn't too rusty.

I think Milner's fitness or lack thereof will be a decisive factor for this one. I don't think Klopp will start Lallana, Shaqiri, or Keita away in Munich – Milner is the only attack-minded midfielder he would trust in such a big game and big atmosphere and if he is not fit, he will almost certainly once again play a workmanlike midfield of Fabinho-Wijnaldum-Henderson which resulted in successive 0:0 draws at Old Trafford and Goodison. Now, a draw in Munich would not necessarily be a bad result for us, but given the quality and experience of the opposition, I fear playing a 0:0 type game will most likely result in a close, but deserved 1:0 win for Bayern. However, if Milner is fit to start, I believe our midfield balance will be better and we will create enough scoring chances to come away with a win or at least a score draw.

Every other position is pretty much set; I don't think there will be any surprises.

4-3-3:
--Mane----Firmino----Salah--
------Milner---------Gini--------
Robbo-----Fabinho-----Trent
------Van Dijk-----Matip-------
--------------Alisson-------------

Subs: Mignolet, Lovren, Keita, Lallana, Shaqiri, Sturridge, Origi

I've been to the stadium a couple of times, most recently for the pre season last year. It's a dead good place to watch football. I think of all the major stadia it's the best. Enjoy guys, I'd love to be going.

Honestly haven't got a clue how it will go. This time last year I'd have thought we were going to score four, this year we're objectively better but don't look like scoring against big sides. I think it's because we set up with three sideways passing midfielders in those games this season. Hope we start with one of Lallana / Keita / Shaqiri.

I predict 6-0 to us. I also predict I’ll wil every race at Cheltenham so take that with a pinch of salt.

I suspect Bayern will tweak their system and start with a 4-3-3 against us (as opposed to their usual super-attacking 4-2-1-3). Kingsley Coman trained for the first time on Monday, but Kovac might not risk starting him after an absence of a few games. He will probably opt for the energy of Goretzka in midfield instead, in addition to the newly-favoured Javi Martinez and the ever-present Thiago. In defence, I wonder if he will ask Boateng to dust off his full-back skills and place him at RB to try to counter Mane. On the other flank, Alaba has also been injured, but he's been back in training for a few days longer than Coman and will almost certainly start. I expect something like this:

----------Lewandowski----------
-----James---------------Gnabry
-------Thiago-----Goretzka-----
Alaba---J.Martinez---Boateng
-----Hummels------Sule--------
-------------Neuer----------------

Ribery and Coman will be subbed on in the 2nd half, they are the only top-quality attacking subs they have available.

Disappointed not to see an attempt at drawing Fabinho carrying 12 steins at once.

Surprised so many of you have predicted Gini to start.

He is that fucked he looks unfit, he's played a huge amount of minutes compared to any other midfielder this season (I haven't actually checked this, but seems obvious). No way I can see him playing, plus Klopp actually said that he's knackered after the match on Sunday.

The word from James Pearce at the Echo was that Virgil picked up a knock in the Burnley game, but he played on and will be fine, but, as you say, Wini was considered really fatigued.

Yeah, I don't think anyone needed Kopp to confirm it cos the lad looked almost unfit he was so knackered, but the fact he did makes me think there's little chance he plays.

It's a shame we don't have any adequate cover for Robbo, cos his performances are getting worse week on week & that's clearly cos he's fucked too, he looked really leggy at the end on Sunday.

I think there may be an outside chance Lovren gets lashed in at CB. Simply cos I seem to remember Klopp throwing him back in straight from injury in the CL before.
