What? The fact is we didn’t win both. That’s not opinion it’s fact. If you don’t think the pressure of must win games every 3/4 days in that period didn’t contribute to us not winning both then fair enough. I’m not saying it was the only factor but it clearly was a big factor. Just like our current team is picking up injuries and struggling to get over the line week in week out this season. A huge factor in that is the fixture congestion and the need to win almost every game. Klopp himself has complained about it, Maybe we can do it for another 6 months but it’ll be a hell of a lot easier if we wrap up the league early.

Pat - When the pressure was at it's highest last year, we won 100% of our matches, mate.

Had Kompany's shot ended up 6 inches higher, we'd have won both trophies. Last year was nothing more than the (then) world's best team proving that they were ever so slightly better than us, over 38 matches. It wasn't us failing, or choking, or buckling under the pressure, or any other silly cliche. We were fucking magnificent last season. But so were City. That's all. And you know it.

This is all very silly, mate.

I look to forward to a 'like' for my detective work on the previous page of the thread then ! 🙂
Ok have given you a like because you did write quite a bit and very shameless asking for a like whe the content does not explain why it is a derby other than telling us about some of the problems of the fixture. Anyway, did my own research:

The BrightonCrystal Palace rivalry, also nicknamed the A23 derby and the M23 derby, is the derby between English football teams Brighton & Hove Albion and Crystal Palace. ... Until Crawley Town were promoted to the Football League in 2011, Palace were the nearest other professional club to Brighton.

I would say the pressure was highest when we had a 4pt lead with a game in a hand and we slowly lost our lead whereby the pressure switched to City as the leader and us the chaser. They didn’t falter and deservedly won the league.

Hopefully we’ve learnt from that. It seems like we have.

You are overly impressed with whatever inch that won them the league...

Nope. Because in January, there wasn't the 'we MUST win every single remaining match, becuase there are only a few left' pressure that there was for that final 9 game run in... Those matches where we played first, knowing that we HAD to win, or it'd give them a huge boost for their match the next day, etc. There was FAR more pressure on our 9 game winning run than there was on anything that came before it.

Learnt from that..? From only attaining a points total that would have won all but two league title throughout the history of football?!? Christ, mate... You really do like to play the controversial role on this site, don't ya? You're like a less nasty, less drunk Roger Mellie.

But it is not controversial. Just wrong/stupid and it doesn't make sense. The year before City was in a class of their own. United came comfortably second and were 19 points behind. We were stretches but made the CL final.

1 season on and City is just as good in the league, but loose the qf (again in CL) while we are the only top 6 team that really improves in the league. The rest fall further behind City. United with the equal expensive squad to City were now more than 30 points behind them. We remarkably manager to close that impossible gap and run them to the very final game and lose the league with a single point. Amazing achievement if Mourinho is correct on his biggest achievement being taking united to second a year earlier. Throw in our second CL final in a row and probably 8 in all times.

And then this is being used as a "fact" in thread after thread that we are not up to it. Even used as evidence that we will need a 25 points or so lead in March to not lose it all again. It is way beyond what I accept as cobtroversial.

I couldn’t disagree more but I’ll leave to you to think the above.

This season Milner has said he learnt from last season that we canny afford to drop any points and it’s shown with 15/16 wins.

The fact I used was that we weren’t able to win both. It’s not stupid or wrong. It’s just the truth.

By that logic, every team that drops points ever has choked. Beginning of the season, you never know if you might need 114 points so you'd better not drop any.

Well yeah. By virtue of the fact that we didnt win both, we didnt do what was required to do it.

Yeah.

That’s all I said and indicating that winning the league before the CL semi final rolled around would be hugely beneficial or having such a large lead resting players wouldn’t be an issue.

To give ourselves the best chance of winning both.

We don’t have want every game to be a must win from March or we will be really up against it to produce similar heroics as Barcelona

Wow. That is a real kick in the teeth. I was certain we won both. Is this "truth" verified cause I have been celebrating quite some.

Seriously, I can't believe all your arguing is just to point out something all know? But I assume you did more than just open the paper in May and read a table stating that City won the league.

That makes sense in theory but 1) Klopp would do very little differently to prepare to win every single game, he's already going to be rotating; 2) players lose their focus when they think they've already won, and Klopp will again not allow that. Hence, it will do us very little good at all to have things "sewn up".

We do not do well with too much rest. That is why our two CL finals performances have both been absolute shit.

They are difficult. Last game of a long season and you all of a sudden have 3 week brake before the game. That is harsh on the players that have played 2 times a week for a long time. I think the long season also kills the freshness for the players So we would probably cope better with a break earlier in the season.

That’s how facts usual work as opposed to opinions

If we are 15 ahead with 10 games left it’s done. He can rest our most important players for the CL semi final if we get there

We had an extra week or so for the last one, and I agree, we were not great by any means. I disagree about the first final though. Until Salah went off we dominated, and even afterwards, the game was largely even apart from two absolute clangers from Karius and a one in a thousand worldie from Bale.

So basically we learnt from last season that we just need to win every game.

I’m surprised more teams haven’t figured this out this simple strategy.
When the the 4d chess master Dreamy explains it, it becomes so clear. The strategy is so obvious it was hiding in plain sight.

That is some NBA level strength / technique there....amazing.
For all the flak that people give Ronaldo, he really is one of the hardest workers out there.
He's without a doubt the greatest athlete to ever play football

His strength , conditioning , agility , balance , reactions all unparalleled.

Mother fuckers in here hypothesising whether it's better to win the league before the champions League semi final or after ?

Fuck you Dreambeliever

Salah doesn’t go off I think we win the game comfortably.
