Mingolet close to signing a new contract

I'll be seriously pissed off if this is true.

I'm hoping it's a case of us doing this to reduce the potential cost of a keeper by making it look as if we're going to sign a new contract with Mignolet so the selling club assume the new keeper will just be a number two.

That's me desperately clutching at straws. As you can probably tell!

What Biased Agenda..

If calling MInoglet not Liverpool quality, and showing no sign of improvment is a 'biased' agenda, then come on please..

Its hardly rocket science to see that he is not a that great a keeper.. Yes he pulls out some great saves from time to time, but his decision making and the commanding of his area is showing no signs of improvment, whilst you have that type of Keeper at your club, you will fail to challenge as his weaknesses will aways be exposed by the better teams..
Quoting only one side of the story is the very definition of biased.

He has a lot of good skills that has saved us points and won us games. Equally DeGea has costed Man Utd points as well yet you fail to mention either of these so your post is biased.

So much so it comes across as agenda filled.

I'm not sure what Klopp is seeing in training that makes him think that he's worth a new contract and not getting him out of the door asap, because we're not seeing it during the games.

Giving him a new contract is fucking pointless. He's worth fuck all so there's no value to protect and he certainly had to deserved a new contract and the excessive signing on fee. We would be wise to sell him in January and bring a new keeper in.

I have given up giving any of our goalkeepers a chance now. I actually think we have a massive problem as fans when it comes to goalkeepers - every goal keeper that goes through a bad patch - we seem to make the matter worse by pouring out all our fears whenever a corner is taken or our goalkeeper has to keep out a free kick or something. The only one it did not affect was Reina - who seemed to shrug off any of his mistakes (despite us). But every other goalkeeper - all they have to do is make maybe 1 or 2 similar errors and they are fucked.

Where is he the best? Punches clear just shows he can't catch.
Not really, it doesn't.

The list is pretty strange as macca has suggested but nevertheless opinions on him, and several other players in the team are pretty divided, which kinda suggests they're just good enough but not really a priority to change out.

Our real problem is that we have a lot of these players: Lucas, Allen (if you believe Ryan), Lazar, Benteke (although his recent games suggests he's on his way out), Studge (with his injuries), Milner, Lallana etc etc.

How hard is it to catch a ball really? If you can punch a ball you can catch a ball. It's about making a habit of catching instead of punching really.

We should send him to train with an NBA team just as a rebounder.

I don't think opinions on Ming are divided now. The majority want him replaced ASAP

With stats like that, no wonder people's opinion of him is divided.

He's like the best and worst at the same time.

I'm not quite sure how those particular stats work out as best and worst...they just seem bad to me... He is the 18th best at saving success and 14th for high claims and also the most accident prone and leads for mistakes leading to goals.

Where's the good bit?Punches clear? Yeah... cos he cant catch for fucking toffee...

When you bear in mind he is a possibly the most important position in terms of how the rest of the team plays is unacceptable and in of itself a reason why we simply must replace him. Goalkeeper HAVE to be reliable and calm, its part of their job description. Mignolet on his own didn't cost us the game on Sunday for example, but it makes you wonder would we have enjoyed a different result entirely if he hadn't have completely fucked things up for their first goal? How much better would our defenders be if they new he was reliable?

I genuinely cannot see an argument for keeping him... and i've seen him fuck it up so often to be honest i'm sick of it...

average rating of 6.66 ... 22nd... get rid already for fucks sake...

If we are not looking to get rid of Mignolet for now, but instead want to give him some quality competition, I would take a look at Rene Adler, who currently plays in Hamburg. He was considered one of the big 3 goalkeeping talents keepers in Germany, alongside Neuer and Ter Stegen and was actually Germany's #1 ahead of them, but a serious injury (and a series of small niggling ones) has derailed his career and now he is playing for bottom-scrapers Hamburg and no longer even gets called up to the National team at age 30. His quality, though, is still there and if we were to take a punt on him, we would get a first-rate talent for very little money.

How definite is it that he's put those injuries behind him?

He has recovered from the big one – a knee tendon injury that kept him out for more than a season and made him doubt if his career was over. Since then he did miss a few games with other non-related injuries, so I wouldn't trust making him the #1 for sure, but if we want to improve competition for Mignolet, he could be a good choice. His game has always been very well-rounded and in particular his distribution is possibly the best among German goalkeepers.

Liverpool's Simon Mignolet: Premier League's most error-prone goalkeeper since 2013/14

After Simon Mignolet made another costly mistake in Liverpool's 2-2 draw at home to West Brom, we look at the stats behind his performances for the club. And it doesn't make good reading for the Belgium No 1.
Mignolet joined Liverpool from Sunderland after an impressive 2012/13 season on Wearside. However, despite making over 100 appearances for the Anfield club his form this term has come in for criticism.
Reds boss Jurgen Klopp even had to defend his goalkeeper earlier this month, amid rumours he would bring in a replacement in January. "I've had a lot of goalkeepers over the last few years and Simon Mignolet is one of the smartest I have had," said the German.

Here, with the help of WhoScored.com, we compare Mignolet's performances over the past three seasons with 30 other Premier League goalkeepers who have made over 20 appearances since the Belgian joined Liverpool…

Mistakes

No goalkeeper has made more errors leading to goals than Mignolet, since he joined Liverpool. It's a damning statistic for a 'keeper but Mignolet's flap at the cross which led to West Brom's opener on Sunday was the eighth time he's been directly accountable for an opposition goal in the Premier League.

Clean sheets
When it comes to clean sheets, Mignolet is up there with the best in the league. Only Joe Hart has kept more clean sheets in the Premier League since the start of the 2013/14 season. In fact, Mignolet's figure of 28 shutouts is enough to equal David de Gea's record for Manchester United in that time.
Goals conceded
When he's not keeping clean sheets Mignolet is letting in a lot of goals. Since he moved to Liverpool, only Aston Villa's Brad Guzan and Newcastle's Tim Krul - both fighting at the opposite end of the table - have conceded more goals. Of course, Mignolet can't be blamed for every one of the 112 strikes that have hit his net but he ranks some way behind the top 'keepers in the division in this statistic. Mignolet has conceded 23 goals more than De Gea and 36 more than Hart.

Save success
Mignolet's save-to-shot success rate is middling at best. On average, over the past three seasons, the Liverpool goalkeeper has saved 67.6 per cent of the shots fired at him. That puts him 18th out of 31 goalkeepers who have made more than 20 Premier League appearances since his Liverpool move.
Crosses
Mignolet's authority in dealing with crosses appears to be a major problem. Mignolet has opted to punch the ball 80 times since signing for Liverpool - that's more than any other 'keeper in the league. Of course, there's nothing wrong with punching the ball but in this instance it could reflect the Belgian's reluctance to catch crosses.
Mignolet is the only 'keeper who has opted to punch the ball clear more times than he has successfully caught it from a cross (79), since the start of the 2013/14 season. To put that into perspective, the vast majority of 'keepers have caught crosses more than twice as many times as they've punched the ball.

Overall performance
WhoScored give each Premier League player a mark out of 10 for each performance, based on a wide range of statistical parameters. Of the 31 keepers to make 20 or more appearances in the past three seasons only nine have a lower WhoScored.com rating than the Liverpool man's 6.66.
