I hate when players grab the badge. I don't care if Gerrard or Carra do it either, it ust irks me.

Mascherano's been outstanding of late. Our best and most consistent player by miles.

I don't mind it if they genuinely mean it. On the other extreme you have Mark Viduka. That cunt would kiss any badge.

Really ?

Whatever anyone thinks of Viduka, I can't help but remember the 4 goal game against us. That day he was exactly what Heskey should have been.

All I remember from that game was Christian Ziege carefully bending over for Viduka, lubing his spotty German hole up for him to be arseraped into the next millenium.

That and Sander Westerveld sliding on his hole everytime Viduka was through. 'Here Viduks, dink it over me'.

The moment I recall most vividly from that game was Berger twisting his knee trying to prevent Viduka's third. That was the end of him really.

How the fuck did we lose that game actually? Leeds had Jacob Burns and Danny Hay playing!

great goal but I don't think kissing the badge is any sort of indication he will be here next season, he may want to move abroad and get out of lucas' shadow.

I'll tell you exactly how. David fucking "I've got a Man.Utd.poster on my wall" fucking Elleray fucking giving the other lot two fucking offside goals, that's fucking how. That b@stard reffed a total of 31 LFC games in his career and we won fucking FOUR of them.

It still infuriates me now. Can you tell?

I think he'll stay; his actions and demeanour just don't indicate someone trying to play well just to angle for a lucrative transfer.

I could be wrong, but still...

Get out of Lucas' SHADOW?

???

I've always loved him.
In fairness most have, with the obvious exception of Ryan, but then again he loves Lucas so his opinion doesn't count for much these days.

Masher is one of 4 truly world class players we have.
I don't think Brendan rated him at first either.
Not true. I was just a bit miffed that we spent the best part of £20m on a DM, when I didn't think it was really a necessary purchase, given we already had Xabi Alonso, Gerrard and Didi Hamann. I always thought he was a quality, if rather one-dimensional DM

It was Ryan who kept quacking on and on about how he wasn't very fast, and making snide digs about how we should sell him ASAP, until he realised it was making him look (even more) stupid.

Ha ha @ the "@" in "b@stard" but "fucking fuck fucks".

Fair comments both. ;D

I might (might) have been that bit less riled by Elleray if it hadn't been for that "sensible, educated Harrow School housemaster" air about him. Of course nothing could ever be done about his treatment of us, as no-one could ever prove intent on his part and he himself went about his "business" without the kind of flamboyance associated with the likes of, say, Graham Poll, so the smug git got away with it.

I'd better stop there before I build up another head of steam.

"Deter interest". As if.

If they want him, they'll still get him. All this does is ensure we get a better price for him, similar to the Alonso situation.

Still, good move on our part.

Liverpool to offer Javier Mascherano long-term deal to deter offer from Barcelona
Tony Barrett

Liverpool are set to offer Javier Mascherano a two-year contract extension that will keep him at Anfield until 2014 in a bid to keep the midfield player out of the clutches of Barcelona.

Mascherano has been the subject of longstanding interest from the Spanish and European champions after Pep Guardiola, their coach, identified the Argentina captain as the perfect foil for Xavi Hernández and Andrés Iniesta, the attacking midfield duo, almost a year ago.

Last summer it appeared that the Catalan club were ready to try to force a deal through, only to be warned off by Rafael Benítez. The Liverpool manager informed them that Mascherano was not for sale at any price, even though the player appeared to have had his head turned by the possibility of a move to Spain.

In keeping with his policy of tying up key players to long-term deals, Benítez wants Mascherano to follow in the footsteps of Fernando Torres, Steven Gerrard, Dirk Kuyt, Daniel Agger and Yossi Benayoun, who have all signed contract extensions during the past 12 months.

Preliminary talks have been held with Mascherano’s representatives and Liverpool are hopeful that the 25-year-old will sign an extension to his present deal, which expires in February 2012.

Negotiations are also continuing with Pepe Reina, the goalkeeper, as Benítez attempts to ensure the services of some of Liverpool’s biggest stars are retained. Reina’s present contract at Anfield expires at the end of the 2011-2012 season.

It is the immediate future of Torres that is of most concern at Anfield, however. The forward, who started a game for the first time in six weeks against Blackburn Rovers on Sunday after an injury to his right knee, joined up with the Spain squad before tomorrow night’s friendly match against France in Paris.

Such is Torres’s importance to Liverpool as they look to hold off the challenge of Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa to take fourth place in the Barclays Premier League, that it has led to Jamie Carragher, the defender, praying that his team-mate returns from international duty fully fit.

“Fernando has come back in and it goes without saying how much we have missed him,†Carragher said. “He is still our top scorer, the kind of special player who will make a difference.

“It would be wrong to rely on just one man. After all, you never know, he could come back injured off international duty. Please God, that doesn’t happen, but he makes a big difference and you can see we are a much better team when he is with us.â€

Despite Liverpool’s concerns for Torres’s welfare, with Benítez keeping an eye on his progress and involvement in the Spain team, the player himself is keen to get as much match practice as he can and believes that his club manager will understand his reasons for wanting to play for his country.

“Rafa has enough to deal with with what he’s got,†Torres said. “It’s normal that he’s thinking about his interests but he knows that all the players want to go to the national team.

“Luckily, I recovered in time. To be in the national squad is a prize for me. I have the good fortune that the coach called me up after playing just two games since I recovered. I’m tired after playing nearly 90 minutes after two months of not doing so,but I’m ready for as much as the coach thinks is right.â€

Mascherano is a massive player for us and i'd be completely devastated if we lost him in the summer.

No matter what money Barca or any club throw as us you can't replace a player like Masch.

He's only 25 and will only get better.

I'm a little more confident he will stay now compared to what was beig reported 5 or 6 months ago - seems more settled
and fully committed but that's not to say i'm still not worried he'll leave.

It may well boil down to whether we make the top 4 or not??

I see Chelsea are sniffing about Pepe Reina too, they can dream on the deluded, classless arrogant twats!!!

I can't think of another player that comes close to him in terms of what he does.

Defensive midfielders are out there mate, there are plenty. And they're never the most important player in the team anyway.

We're not talking about Cristiano Ronaldo here.
