Kelly is even a better attacker than Johnson. I enjoy Kelly in the side more than GJ in every way and I was one of the first to say it.
I don't think he's a better attacker at all, he's alot less technical and subtle once he gets in the opposition half, he can cut in and have a dig, but his attacking best comes when he has space to run into, he knocks the ball ahead of himself and chases it. Glen Jo has got two good feet, can dribble quite well, can cross and can score. He just can't defend.
Agreed. Well said.

Yeah, Kelly is a better crosser of the ball and thats why he is a better attacking fullback. He's got a rasping shot on him too. By the time Kelly is GJ's age he'll have eclipsed him in every possible way. And still be a much better defender.

Kelly is the fucking business. I think he's great. He fills me with confidence whenever I see him play.

I like Glen too. I like his attacking verve and it quite clearly better at going forward than Kelly. Kelly is quite capable but Johnson is more naturally gifted in an attacking sense. However, Kelly is the better defender and enjoys his defensive duties.

I posted a thread a while back called "Mr Rightside" expressing a desire to see Glen play RW in certain games. It seems to be a non starter as far as Kenny is concerned but i'm sure many would like to see in theory.

I honestly don't know who i'd pick, prob Kelly if I was pushed to make a decision, but isn't it a good thing that we have two capable RB's?

On a side note, Walker will soon become England first choice RB.

I am stunned at how quickly people forget how many goals we have leaked because of GJ inclusion. I want him sold he is.

I'm not a member of the "Magic for RW" club - if that had been his true position he'd have been played there a sod of a lot more in his career so far - but otherwise, fully agree.

Nobody's "forgetting" anything. The vast majority of those goals weren't just his fault.

Yeah he is a RB but Glen at RW is an interesting theory and a lot of people would like to see tested out.

No no. Glenjo plays, we leak goals, ergo it's his fault automatically.

Take Saturday's Norwich game for example. We'd have won that game 1-0 if Glenjo hadn't have played. It had absolutely nothing to do with Pepe coming out waving at the fucking thing like he'd got family in the crowd or something, and everything to do with Glenjo attacking. Or something.

I wouldnt, and I know what I'm talking about. Y'hear?

Not saying it's the right thing to do but it is an option that a lot of poster and fans would like to see tested.

I do think Glen is a RB and should play there but it's a hard decision between him and Kelly. A good selection headache for Kenny but they both love being injured so we rarely have both to choose from for a sustained period of time.

Be interesting to see who starts on Saturday.

I'd play Kelly FWIW.

Indeed.

Some pretty fucking lazy conclusions have been drawn about Johnson over the last year.

Don't see why it should be for Kenny tbh

Johnson has been shit or injured since he took over. At least Kelly has been consistent when fit

Yep. I'll admit he is indulgent at times but many have written him for us off already.

Well, he's not been very good and certainly nowhere near the player we saw at Pompey or at the start of his Liverpool career. There are some mitigating factors though. He's been in and out of the side with fairly long'ish injuries and when he's come back he's come back into a struggling or up and down side.

Johnson is not going to come in regardless of circumstance and be rock solid. I think that much we can all agree on. We need to give him the right platform - basically a top attacking team, something we all aspire to anyways - to succeed because he can be a very valuable asset in the right setup.

The one problem I do have with Johnson at the moment is that he looks very low on confidence and tentative. We need winning attitudes and people willing to work. If he can get that sorted, I'd be happy to give him a chance to regain his form.

that's harsh imo. johnson was pretty sound over a decent period playing left back last season.

he's definitely underrated on here.

Fair enough at left back he did alright defensively , but offered little going forward. its one or the other with him, and when you pay the money we paid , its not good enough

I don't agree that Magic offered little going forward from LB last season. His interventions in attack may have been less spectacular but I don't think they were any less effective. If anything his use of the ball in such situations was better than from the right, and he surprised some opposition defences by popping up in the area at corners too.

i thought he did ok going forward from LB, but i might be remembering wrong. fair enough, we overpaid, no-one denies that, but personally i think there's a quality player in there. and i STILL don't see any good reason for not at least trying him further forward. people are way too cautious about that: he doesn't have to adapt like gareth bale - have we forgotten that the likes of aurelio, riise and even finnan have all done reasonably well for us doing just that in the last few years?

Johnson would be a top player at a team that have 70% possession in most games.
I thought Steve Clarke was the man to sort out his defensive frailties but he hasn't so I wouldn't be too worried if he was next out the door.

Its got absolutely nothing to do with Norwich, it's got to do with him being a bad tackler who stands off players, lets crosses go in, constantly gets caught out of position and doesn't tuck in on crosses from the other wing.

And to be fair he did play well at LB which was unexpected. He did a lot more of those things than he does on the right.

Any one ever seen Skip Bayless on FirstTake? Ryan = Skip Bayless.

If GJ plays RW with Kelly at RB, who will lose his place? Kuyt or Henderson?
I would not be too sad to see Henderson lose his place
