If Haaland is injured I could see Pep doing something weird like playing Foden at False 9.

We've been very predictable with our line-ups so far this season, for important games. And we know Pep is liable to have a brainstorm/fart with his lineups ... so does anyone see something unforeseen for this game? Both will be trying to one up the other.

Good question. When 2 top managers meet, sometimes they both overthink resulting in a very unnatural-looking game. A recent example is our game vs De Zerbi’s Brighton - for large parts it looked like a training exercise in build-up vs pressing patterns with all the normal elements of football like tackling and unpredictability almost “sanitized” out of it.

Fortunately Klopp and Pep have met enough times to know there are not many tactical tricks left they can surprise each other with so most of our games vs City have been quite watchable, often actually great to watch. This will be a big test for Alexis’s decision-making under pressure and Szobo’s ability to raise his game for the big occasion. Can’t wait!

I think this might happen with Darwin out left or on the bench.

MacA played the entire game in Brazil. If he plays and turns in a performance like the previous one after he returned from a tough international he will either be red carded or we will be down by at least 2 by HT.

We are overdue a big slice of luck in this. So many recent matches where we've been offside by a fraction, ball cleared off the line by a fraction, deflected goals etc. Whilst I'd love to just go and steamroll them, it would be beautiful to get it all rolling through some brainfart from a City player or a tight decision leading to meltdown.

Win and go top... then never get caught.

All I want is a nice straightforward, no panic, boring win.

No controversies or injuries to gee them up for the rest of the season. No marginal offsides/onsides.

Just 90 minutes of boring football which finishes with us winning

Boring.

Give me the Trent handball breakaway into Fabinho smashing in from 25 yards any day..!

---------Mac Allister--Jones--------

I would go for this. Two holding midfielders will be important. We need to draw City into a scrap in the middle of the park and commit to some end-to-end action. I'll whisper it quietly, but I think City are more beatable this year. The question is whether we have big game players to step up (post-international break) and are clinical enough to take advantage. Jones and Mac Allister can hold possession and save legs for pressing. Jota can score goals in tight games and generally presses better, he would be my preference. I'd hope the double pivot enables Trent to provide width and get some balls into Nunez and Jota, who are both strong in the air. I'd also Trent not to have to worry about the hybrid position and can focus on dealing with Doku. That matchup makes me nervous.

Haven't followed the internationals admittedly. Gakpo/Endo/Grav all have a shot at starting.

Boring football? Jurgen doesn’t approve.

Heavy metal all over the plastic cheating scums, I’m talking smashing electric guitars over their heads in the dressing room, powerbombing them through a piano in the tunnel, then curb stomping their ankle behind maine road after the game.

Up the reds!!

I agree. The South Americans have a long trip ahead of them. Macca played 90 mins last night. Darwin played like 75 mins. Alli 90 mins, Lucho 80 mins.

They’ll be arriving at Merseyside today and then in recovery/training tomorrow and Friday.
If fit - they’ll play.

Macca had played away at Bolivia before the Wolves game. Thats a big difference compared to the Brazil game.

Endo played in Saudi Arabia last night, so thats still a 7 hour flight. Doubt there will be to much difference between the fitness of Macca and Endo.

I think this could work if both given the role to keep it compact. Jones has a lot of tactical discipline that would be important. We would possibly lack width, but that comes down to how each full back would approach the game.

I would go with Tsimi over Gomez. It’s not like the latter is defensively perfect, but at least the Greek can cross and give us width on the overlap.

Never gonna happen like.

Trent ---Konate----VvD ----- Gomez or Tsimikas

---Salah------Nunez----------Diaz

Mo 4 goals, Nunez 3 goals and Diaz 2 goals on International duty. Jota - zero.
Go with form, and in Diaz we can keep the width lacking vs Luton.
I'd go Gomez if we play with Gravy and Tsimikas if Jones starts.
