Not sure if we've ever done it before under Klopp, but 5-2-3 maybe? Just accept that City are better, bore them to death and hit them on the counter? Or am I thinking too much like Houllier/Rafa?

----------------Ali
----Konate Matip Van Dijk
Trent-------------------------------Tsimikas
----------Szobo-----Macca
etc.

Accept they're better in what sense though? They might have a stronger squad but with everyone fit I'd say the 2 teams are pretty even.

Ali > Ederson
Trent < Walker (from a defensive perspective)
Matip < Akanji (not much in it)
Virgil > Dias
Kostas < Gvardiol (probably more even given that Gvardiol plays at LB)
Mac < Rodri
Szobo = Bernardo
Jones/Grav < Foden
Diaz > Doku
Salah > Alvaraz
Nunez > Haaland (close one but Nunez is just an all round better player)

If we pack the midfield and outnumber them, our front guys can get real joy against their isolated defenders. We just need to be brave and find the right pass/beat the first press and we can really get at them.

Seriously, in what planet is Nunez better than Håland? Are you having a laugh?
I mean we're all LFC fans sure but Håland has receipts what has Nunez done?

City are playing on their home ground, should I presume that we're just gonna go there and dominate them?

Also not a fan of those other comparisons either. Salah vs Alvarez? Szobo vs Silva?
I hate City just like any other sensible fan but they just won the treble.

How are we equal or better than them?

If you watch enough football Modo you'll see he's just a better player mate. Look at Haaland now without KDB providing him, he's already half the player. He relies on service to latch onto and fair play to him he does take them better than most but he's never beating a man for pace on the wing for example or creating chances for himself/other team mates. Nunez can do both those things better, he can link and hold up play better. Haaland's every other touch is a goal.

Harry Kane is also a miles better player than Haaland.

No one said anything about going there and dominating them, but we'll raise our game just as much as they will....it will be a tightly contested game (as they usually are), we'll be able to put out near enough our strongest XI....they're without their best player.

We can put Szobo up with Foden and Salah with Silva if it makes you feel any more comfortable but these are the XI's that'll likely take to the pitch tomorrow so it's one or the other.

Yes, agreed. Its an even match up and it will probably be decided by fine margins and luck on the day. Taking your chances and if certain big calls go your way or not. Seeing its at the Ethiad and that the ref is a former City season ticket holder I'm not holding my breath, but we've got a great chance.

Would be just lovely to beat them and without any VAR controversy for post match discussions to take away any sort of glory for the win.

You’re going mental again.

Nunez isn’t anywhere near as good a player as Haaland is.

He might be one day - but he certainly isn’t right now.

This is borderline hubris, no offence. Us going to Manchester and beating them is an upset.
My attitude would be different if we played at home.

This does not give me any confidence

I'd rather have a striker/forward who gives me 40 ish goals every season than a striker who can run and create stuff but gives me 16.
It doesn't make sense.

It would be an upset but at the same time it would surprise no one because you have to look at the current factors, looking at results over the years is a pointless exercise anyway.....we're a very different team now, as are they. We are a point behind them in the table, they've lost more games than us. We have a full strength side, they have KDB out.

As would we all if you're ONLY wanting goals from your CF and nothing else, doesn't change that Nunez is a better player.

And with KDB out they still top the table.
We have 4 South Americans potentially starting for us. We're playing away.

Also, how can it be an upset but not a surprise?

I mean, if you say "I wouldn't be surprised if team X upsets team Y", are you then surprised if team Y wins?
Or are you basically saying I'm not surprised if someone wins...

Håland didn't just suddenly start scoring goals when he joined City. He just took it to another level. Has Nunez?

City have won the latest 23 games at home (all comps). Will be difficult, but not impossible. We have a good chance.

They top the table by way of corruption, yes we know.

Playing away is the real downside here but given it's City and not some dud like Luton or Toulouse, we're not gonna allow our attitude to slip.

It's an upset in the sense that everyone see's City as the best side to have ever lived, It wouldn't be a surprise because it's ultimately 2nd in the table beating 1st......in the same way Barca going to Madrid and winning wouldn't be a surprise, Juve going to Inter and winning wouldn't be a surprise, Leverkusen winning at Bayern (& they almost did) wouldn't be a surprise.

You happen to think it'll be a one sided City win, I don't subscribe.

No, I actually think there's a slight chance that we can get out of there with a result. Especially if Klopp doesn't decide to go there and "gung-ho" it. I sure as hell would be surprised, if we managed to win.

A 3/4-0 would surprise me, why would a hard fought 1-0 or 2-1 win be a surprise? Do you think Pep's that much a better tactical manager than Klopp? Because for sure on paper there isn't much between the 2 sides.

History, simple.
Just as the world goes round this kind of talk comes back every season. Look at the image I posted. We don't beat City away in the league. Last time we did it was 8 years ago.

History also says before City came to Anfield and won 4-1 few years ago, it was 2003 before they last won here.

Was it a surprise? No. Because they were a far better side than us that season, we were in free fall.....3 CB's out, Fab and Hendo at the back.

So history really doesn't hold a candle to the states of both clubs at the time. Both sides are going strong so all roads lead to a tight game that could go either way.

Losing 4-1 at Anfield not a surprise?! You were actually thinking before the game that City will demolish us at home?
You must be having a laugh, mate.

But OK, I'll accept your argument. What except for KDB being out makes you believe that we can beat City away this time?
They're not playing Rodri and Philips in defence like we did, are they?

We didn't beat Chelsea away? Spurs? Brighton?

Yes mate, as I said we were in free fall and had no CB’s. We’d just lost to the likes of Burnley at home and lost to Southampton.

More to do with the qualities we have and less to do with the qualities they don’t have.

Nunez better than Haaland HAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

Gotta love this place sometimes.

Uhm, yes.

Was Lampard a better player than Gerrard because he ended up with more goals in less games than him and won more prem titles than him? No.

There aren’t many better goalscorers than him if any but that alone isn’t enough to proclaim being the best player, a better footballer means having more to your game, defensive as well as attacking. Passing as much as shooting. Creating as much as scoring. Is it starting to make a bit of sense to you now?

Is Haaland a better player than Kane or Firmino because he scores more goals? Fuck off is he, wash your mouth out.

I hope someone gives Haaland a little tap on that fragile ankle early on to make him pensive.

I am bullish. The only thing that concerns me is our mentality and braveness in early kick offs. From a pure XI vs XI point of view i think we’re winning this.
