[article]Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is eyeing a £28million move for Schalke starlet Max Meyer according to reports in Germany.

Sport Bild claim that the Reds boss has enquired about the availability of the 20-year-old attacking midfielder having been an admirer of the youngster's talents from his time in the Bundesliga.

Klopp, who was in charge of Schalke's great Ruhr rivals Borussia Dortmund for seven years between 2008-15, has already made one raid on the Gelsenkirchen-based club this summer to land out-of-contract defender Joel Matip on a free transfer.

Any move for Meyer though was demand a far more considerable cash outlay with the reported fee topping the £25million Liverpool will shell out for Newcastle United's Georginio Wijnaldum.

The Reds have also splashed out over £30million on Sadio Mane this summer and it would be intriguing to see just where another attacking midfielder like Meyer would figure within Klopp's squad considering that he also has the likes of Philippe Coutinho, Roberto Firmino, Adam Lallana and James Milner.

Meyer made 32 appearances for Schalke last season, scoring five goals and providing eight assists.

He won his only Germany cap to date aged just 18 in a pre-World Cup friendly against Poland in May 2014.[/article]

Not sure where he fits in unless we're getting rid of Lallana ...

Probably a back-up plan in case Coutinho forces a move. Or could be an alternative to Coric, although he is a bit older (turning 21 in September). Meyer is a neat player, more of a playmaker than a scorer. I think his best quality is decision-making (that's what I love about German playmakers – they don't overcomplicate things!)

Hes just spent £25m on one. This would certainly precurse a coutinho transfer

I've only seen him play about half a game. He looked like a little turbo-charged Weeble, bouncing and spinning around and then emerging with the ball.

Put it this way, I'd rather spend that money on someone like him than someone "prem-proven" *shudders*
