Clyne is arguably our best defender I really rate him. Isn't he our quickest too or close to it.
That might make sense if we were overstocked with quality centre backs and it was the best use of our available resources. As It stands moving Matip to midfield would leave us with a terrifyingly inept CB partnership.
Lovren is faaaaar from perfect, but hardly totally inept.

I read somewhere that we're still unbeaten with a Lovren-Matip partnership. They're not perfect, but they're the best we've got, and we need to stick with that for the sake of stability at the very least. Half of our defensive issues stem from Klopp changing things every week.
We made top 4 last year on the back off a strong run in our last 10 or so games, and if memory serves me correctly, the consistent feature was a Mignolet-Matip-Lovren-Can diamond through the centre.
That's the strongest spine we can put out, but Klopp changes it every week.

If he's rested then Matip must be the only one fit enough for this level. All this rotation at the back is going to cost us.

Hmm. I've got a theory. It's probably bollocks, but I'm gonna type it out anyway, cos most of what is said on here is bollocks anyway.
This rotation at the back may be a way of negating the issues with fitness that we began to see last season (with less games) later on in the season.
He may be gambling now that are attacking prowess will nullify the negatives that rotating the back four for the time being & leave the players sharper when we come into those spells during the season where we have game after game & rotation will be essential.
That's not to say I agree (I don't) that it's a good idea, or that we shouldn't have improved at the back (we should), but it's just an idea/theory that I've been pondering.

I don't usually open it (or indeed create one) until a few minutes before the match.
Some folks like to read through the match thread after the event, opening it just before it starts keeps it all in one place & on topic.
I just created it early today cos I found myself with some rare spare time to do so.
