Leicester away - Pre match

Sure, but like I said Leicester under Puel wants to play more possession-based rather than counter-attacking football. Against United, they controlled the play for stretches. Will not be so easy against us, but I think they will try.
Ahh, yes. I agree. I think it may play into our hands nicely.

No vardy as well so that’ll fuck their counter attacking game. He always scores against us the cunt.

We will win this.

Hendo for Keita I think.

Not cos Keita wasn't as good as previously last match, but cos gini & Milner are both playing so well & we miss the ability Hendo has of switching play so often.

Mane looked below par & needed to be brought off last week but unsure of the logic of giving him a rest only for him to go off & play an international.

Really ? I think we've been switching play from side to side quickly and frequently in every game so far. Clearly a valid tactic to use against parked buses to try to create space. I'm not so sure Hendo will help us in that regard since we've been doing it anyway and he isn't great at picking a pass through a packed defence - Keita, Gini and Milly all better at it.

I see Hendo as an allrounder; strong on the ball, decent passer, decent pace, decent tackler, good positionally and so on ... doesn't excel at anything but is 7/10 at everything. Maybe that's what we'll need against Leicester for the controlling midfielder.

We've been switching play, but it's been from VVD or the full backs mostly the last few games.

For me it's just meant the midfield has been a bit less dynamic, Hendo has a better ability to pick passes from anywhere in the midfield area to almost anywhere else, which helps open up games a bit more.

I think there will be space on the turnover against this Leicester, and Keita is the best player to exploit that. I'd stay unchanged in midfield.

I think Mane might just start on the bench with Shaq getting his first run out. I have a feeling he may well stick with the 3 midfielders or perhaps give Milner a break and stick Hendo on in the 6, allowing Gini to do more of the runs into the box we saw in preseason.

The thing I don’t like about Hendo... he never really looks up behind him when receiving the ball. Which means whenever he receives the ball from CB or SB with his back faced to opposition goal, he only ever passes it backwards or sideways. He hardly ever turns with the ball because he doesn’t know what’s behind him.
He’s absolutely fine when facing goal, but because of his deeper positioning these days, it’s predictable what happens. Keeper to CB, CB to Hendo, One touch pass back to CB, CB to SB, SB to Hendo, one touch pass back to CB. Eventually the other players will find a midfielder, Hendo faces goal, then starts spreading the ball around.
I so wish he could turn around with the ball every once in a while so that it gives us more options. Gini has less passing range but does this with ease.

I'd like to see Gini in his current swagger getting a whole game with more licence to roam - i rate him when he gets in the box and he has the ability to absolutely leather it.

I really don't think that's true, or fair. Anybody playing in that position will play plenty of lateral balls, but Hendo also plays the ball forward too, and is particularly good at getting the FBs into space down the flanks. This is Modo talk.

Considering Klopp said he was happy with the result but not the performance against Brighton and he said they players look fresh mid week but weren’t in the game I’d be stunned if we didn’t see changes.

Henderson for Keita/Milner

Shaq for Firmino/Mane

Maybe even Clyne for TAA but it would be silly to change the back 5.

No Mahrez or Vardy is a huge bonus this season for the away game.

The back four picks itself, the three lads up front and then three midfielders. I don't overly mind which three start in midfield.
No Vardy is a big bonus, he seems to score against us in recent years. Another three points, clean sheet please.

I’ve said Hendo’s good when facing the opponent.
You’re misinterpreting what I’m saying.

Ahh, fair enough- apologies. I didn't quite get the nuance in your comment.
Next game, keep an eye on how many times he receives the ball from behind and then turn with it.
It’ll be very few times. It’s an unfortunate trait because I like the rest of what he offers us.

It may be deliberate. Part of the tactics of passing it around at the back is to draw midfielders/attackers forward to the ball to try and create space between them and the defence. How much we do that will depend on the team we are playing and how / if they are pressuring our defence.

I understand what you’re saying but I really don’t think it is. When Gini plays deep, he turns around. When Keita receives the ball deep, he turns around. Milner too. It’s just awareness.
I don’t want this taken as a Hendo bashing. I like him. But I do think it’s the one major negative part of his game.

Quite clearly Firmino out, no bib and a truely woeful attempt at a pose.

Yeah, it's something I've wished to see him do for a long time as well. It's fine to pass the ball straight back when there is an opponent behind you, but if not it makes no sense – just turn around and start an attack from a more advanced position!

Im in London today so will be looking for a pub to watch the match in.

Anyone about and fancy a bevvy gimme a shout for a mini-drinkies.

Sorry Barba that was thoughtless of me. I should have said ‘or a lemongrass and spirolina smoothie’
How thoughtful. I’m currently on the bog in a campsite in Suffolk drinking vodka. Enjoy the game. X
