Lamela

We still have a better starting side than them we just gotta hope for zero injuries and drop in form of our players.

Yes you can. The Galacticos didn't win shit. City didn't win shit last year. You can compete. It's not a given, and it requires a tremendous amount of dedication/motivation from the players, and a rub of the green too, but don't for one second believe it's not doable. It can be done -

City didn't win shit because they were up against Man Utd, the 2nd richest club in the world, and Chelsea.
Real were up against Barca, who have had a net spend of about £156m over the past 5 years, which averages about £30m a year.

You know what, I'm not that bothered. Yeah, I would have liked Lamela, i'm a little jealous but i'm not devastated. I've convinced myself that these players will take time to settle and if they do settle a bigger fish will probably come in for them. Just like they did for Berbatov, Modric and now Bale. Can they sustain themselves within the top four? If they can sustain CL football they will have a better chance of keeping their players obviously.

I should be gutted. It's odd. If united just signed Willian and Lamela for 30 odd million each i'd be down in the dumps. For some reason I'm a bit meh on this. Mayybe it's Oncy rallying the troops making us think the next player we chase IS THE ONE. But for now, Fuck Spurs. Bale won matches on his own last season by being a freak of nature. Let's see who steps up this season.

I really want us to sign one more match winner. It's something we've been devoid of for years. We now have Suarez, Gerrard, Coutinho and Sturridge who can do something on their own worthy of winning a match. One or two more match winners please.

Also it will be interesting to see if the sums of the parts outweighs Bale this season?

Twitter stuff tonight about Spurs close to signing Lamela.
Guardian quoting Rodgers today as stating he needs a left-winger to allow Coutinho to flourish in the no.10 role.

Remind me why we're not going all out for Lamela?

Is there any decent player in Europe who wants to play for us ? - I think we really need to look to Germany or somewhere in South America and see if there is anyone in those countries who may wish to join us. All these other players just see us as losers.

Surely if we were in for him Henry would have gotten on to phone to Di Benedetto by now? Besides, the lad suffered from not having the ball as much as he preferred at Roma, with Totti and Pjanic playmaking, and I can't see things improving for him here with Gerrard, Coutinho and Suarez doing the same here.

That's hardly gonna make him choose spurs over us, they've got more players for those positions than any team bar Chelsea (who seem to be obsessively collecting number 10 type players & hoarding them).

Agreed. We should go all out for him and outbid them.
At best, we get a great left winger.
At worst, we force Spurs to bid another £5m, attract Chelsea's attention, or drive them to the point of distraction.

He is not a left winger. He is left-footed and likes to cut inside, so naturally he plays most of the time on the right.

It's strange how there a few top left-footed right-wingers on the market right now (Di Maria, Lamela, Yarmolenko), but, after Willian is gone, not so many right-footers. Ljajic is one, which makes me think it's likely we'll go after him.

What i meant was that right now, we're not going to get the best out of him unless we're prepared to make him the fulcrum of our attack. As highly rated as he is, the main concern Roma have over him -as i understand it - is that without the ball he's extremely passive and quite clueless as to where he's meant to be on a pitch, but he's not quite ready to assume the mantle from Totti and have the ball all the time.

There once was a footballer called Lamela
Both skilful and a really nice fella
His passing ability
And agile mobility
Kopped him a move to the Liverpool Famela
