I can't be the only optimist around who is starting to feel a bit overwhelmed.

By the end of last season, I had already convinced myself that we were sure to see improvement from a load of players (Markovic, Lallana, Lovren, Moreno, Sakho, etc).
On top of that, I just knew that a couple of our bright young talents would be making a step up (Ibe, Texiera, Kent, Rossiter, etc).

Add in a bunch of signings who I think will all be amazing, O'Driscoll to temper our faffing about at the back, increased capacity at Anfield within sight, and the chance of Gary Mac coming back has left me convinced that we will win everything next season.

I don't know how I would cope if we go out and buy a 1 in 2 striker to top it all off (Benteke included).

They may as well hand us the title now.

It's ok the first pre season game usually brings you right down to earth. You get all excited to see the new signings and play great football then turns out none of the new signings are playing and there are that many pointless substitutions that each player only gets about 20 minutes. Add to that the mix of the odd few first teamers with up and coming kids never works and suddenly were losing 2 nil to some team you've never heard of and we're told that pre season is only about fitness levels and the way we played doesn't matter. Unless we win then it does matter.

I think Rodgers and the club will be much more focused on results during preseason. The last thing needed are defeats and all the agitation that will follow. I'd be surprised if we don't start on the front foot.

Got to admit I don't know so much about more recent history but I'm talking the Middle Ages, when the Knights Hospitaller governed Rhodes but were forced out when the Ottomans took over. They migrated to Malta and the Ottomans tried it on there too, but that time they failed. 😎

Ah right. I was thinking of more recent times, when the Greeks eventually got rid of the Turks. Although the Turks took Smyrna off the Greeks (I think just after WWI).

Greeks didn't get rid of the turks dude - the Italians did, and then after WWII, it went to Greece.

The Italians didn't get rid of anyone.

[article=https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rhodes]In 1912, Italy seized Rhodes from the Turks during the Italo-Turkish War. The island's population thus bypassed many of the events associated with the "exchange of the minorities" between Greece and Turkey. After World War I, the island, together with the rest of the Dodecanese, was officially assigned to Italy in the Treaty of Lausanne. It then became the core of their possession of the Isole Italiane dell'Egeo.[/article]

Ah right. I thought you meant all of Greece.

Milner, Clyne and hopefully Firmino add quality most weeks that we didn't have last week. They'll play regularly, these aren't your squad fillers, and they're an upgrade on the options we had from the last 12 months. That's a real positive.

To this point we haven't lost anything from last year's side that will impact us significantly.

Pretty much. We kinda know what to expect from Clyne and Milner...certainly the latter.
Firmino is the big one though...how quickly he settles(or not) will have a significant impact in how we fare next season.
