Danny Ings will take the latest small step on his long road to recovery by working outside at Melwood today for the first time since his injury, Jürgen Klopp has revealed.

The striker made a bright start to life with Liverpool earlier in the season, scoring three goals in eight appearances and making a debut for England after his summer switch from Burnley.

But an anterior cruciate ligament injury suffered during training in October prevented Ings from building on that encouraging form as Klopp took the managerial reins at Anfield.

Since that misfortune, the 23-year-old’s hard work has been transferred from the pitch to the gym, though the boss has provided a positive update on his rehabilitation.

“I had lunch with Ingsy a few minutes ago,” Klopp said on Monday ahead of the Reds’ Barclays Premier League clash with Leicester City this evening.

“He’s not in the perfect way, but Tuesday will be his first time outside again. He’s still a long way away from being available but he’s here.”

Still a long way to go but at last there's light at the end of the tunnel. We've missed his enthusiasm, his work-rate, his urgency, his attitude, his puns. Welcome back Danny!

I like Ings. His scampering work rate, versatility and goalscoring threat is a very classic Liverpool player style. Lots of our best sides had someone a bit like him in them.

Haven't seen enough of him yet to make any more grand claims, but he does seem a like a very useful player. Hope he gets to play again soon, so that we can see what we've been missing.

I'm expecting him back playing before sturridge. Be happy to see him back in the lineup, he looked good before he done it.

At this rate it wouldnt be a huge surprise if Sturridge never played for us again. This is great news, as Klopp said its a long way back to the first team but psychology getting back into any form of training will be a huge boost for him. It would be great if he and Gomez were fit by the summer to allow them get a full preseason in

Losing Ings and Gomez on the same day was dreadfully unfortunate. I cannot wait to have Ings back, buzzing about the pitch.

He went from being a squad player to one of my favourite players in record time.

DANNY!

Ecstatic about this, it's been said many times that he would be perfect for Klopps Liverpool, and I can't wait to see him performing in it.

Coutinho pings the ball into Ings who dings the ball as he spins, the crowd erupts and it sings, for they know what the future brings, I can't be bothered to finish this.

I want to expand on this. It was mad like. I presumed he'd have a squad role with us.

THEN BANG.

Favourite player, devastated he's injured, life is so unfair etc.

Has any player made such a giant leap before? I think it was that 45 mins against Norwich or someone that made me realise that I FUCKING LOVE DANNY INGS. He scored and was an absolute pest for every minute he was on the pitch. He's in my hypothetical XI any day of the week.
