The Europa League is now our most realistic chance of UCL qualification
Exactly. It's getting talked about as if it's a nuisance... But let's be realistic, it's one of our better opportunities to win a decent trophy and it has such a big incentive to progress.

Indeed I agree, for the group stages at least I'd try use 2 or 3 youngsters with the rest being first team members. Maybe that could be llori, Teixeira, Rossiter or Widsom. Ibe and Markovic are probably more than good enough to be permanent fixtures in this side too.

It's only worthwhile keeping him here if we commit to playing him in every cup game. If we're going to chop and change based on results or whatever else then he's better off going on loan. He needs to play.

I'd be happy for us to do that, at the very least in the league cup and Europa league. Play him alongside one of our experienced centre backs in those games and he'll come along quite nicely.

If we were to continue with a back three I'd be interested in giving him plenty of games.

But if the plan is to play a back 4, and it should be, then a loan is probably best

I fell into that trap last season. In reality I think with our defence, Rodgers' lack of European nous, and the very gruelling length of the competition, the chances of winning it are tiny.

Best to write it off from the start.

One thing I see in the couple of clips featuring him in the U21 tournament, is that he faces up to his man and stays on his feet when defending instead of going for the flashy big sliding tackle. I like that.

He certainly seems to have the potential in him to become a good defender.
I'd keep him and let him play in cup competitions, as suggested by Keni.
