Hendo'n his way out

How do City do so well when they keep selling their senior players? There's experience, but there's also accountability, which means moving players on who aren't contributing on the pitch
We should never look at City as an example. They’ve operated in a way that’s not comparable to any other club.
Instead we can look at pretty much all of the other top teams of the past. These teams/squads will always have a proper leader or two in there that have experience and presence that help bring through the younger players and keep other players on their toes. With Milner gone, Henderson’s kind of the only one left. I’d prefer to keep him for the duration of his contract.

Would be gutted to lose Henderson and his leadership, but you can’t blame him with those wages on offer.

Report stating they don’t want to pay too much, we should be asking for at least 20mill.

If they only offer 10 or so, then Hendo could make up the difference with his new pay packet

This causes numerous problems.

It puts pressure on Slobberchops to hit the ground running because it leaves us with only Harvey that’s played in that right midfield role and familiar with the sort of runs Salah needs.

Additionally, we’ll need to to bring in a replacement - but Hendo wont’t bring in much in the way of funds and he vacates a home grown spot.

That’s important because it looks like we’re edging towards filling our last overseas spot with a much needed CB.

Lavia ticks the box of being U21, so he’s good - but that right sided role isn’t the best position for him.

You’d think, maybe Thuram would come into the mix - but unless we’re getting a young or homegrown CB, then we’re not strengthening our backline.

We could look at other Home Grown players, but the problem there is price and/or quality - Ward-Prowse for example is being quoted at £40m.

I’d imagine it’s an unforeseen problem as well, as the plan would have been to keep him until his contract ran out - otherwise we’d have likely already been looking for a replacement.

Honestly - I’d say, at this stage, if he does go - he won’t be replaced and it probably makes Thiago leaving less likely.

None of it is insurmountable - but it’s not ideal preparation for an important season either.

Never thought so many would choose another year of Hendo over a fee and a shiny new toy.

These are the same sentiments that led to us giving him a monster contract, and in return getting 6 months of terrible football as well as a complete lack of renewal in our midfield.

What exactly are we losing here, the voice that led us in crashing out the CL and being stuck in midtable? We have to lose our captain at some point and now seems to be the best time for all involved. We aren't going to win the league next year anyway.

What's on offer is £10m. Lfc want £20m. Jordan has two years left, the fee still has to be agreed. If Hendo goes, he would have been the 5th player to have gone from MF and with Thiago also looking at options, Fabs will be the most experienced MF but isn't much of a leader. It will gave to fall on Ali Mac I guess.

Trent, Virgil, Salah will all have to step up. Yes Hendo is a great leader, but we cannot rely on a player with one foot out the door to provide leadership, especially if he's on the bench. It will get increasingly difficult for him as well.

They can fuck off it's 10m. If Henderson could buy himself after about quarter of the season, then it's not enough clearly.

Losing Hendo and Milner in the same window will be tough in regards to off the field leadership and role models, but it might also be a necessary move to get the Klopp 2.0 team going.
Getting 25 mill + for a 33 year old Henderson and him off the wage bill is a transfer that none of us saw coming.

We have more than enough leaders and international captains on our team. Ali, Robbo, Virgil, Mo and Trent.

If Hendo leaves I dont think it automatic that Virgil is the new captain. Can see Robbo being one of those Klopp will look to as well.

If Henderson goes. Get ready for JWP.

I don't think we will tbh. I think it'll be Lavia, and that's it.

The good thing is I think we've got a few players that could step up into the hendo captain role. Personally I'm not as convinced by Virgil or Ali as captains; but I think Robbo & Trent could easily be a vocal force for this team.

Jordan Henderson will make a decision over a move to Saudi Arabia in the next 48 hours after having doubts over his Liverpool future… with Steven Gerrard's Al-Ettifaq willing to give the £200,000-a-week star a 50% pay rise

Woah...£400k
50% would be $300k

For a club that is clearly reliant on player trading, we don't nearly sell players enough.

Can, Wijnaldum, Origi, Keita, Ox, Firmino all allowed to leave on a free. Next in line are Thiago, Matip and Henderson.

We're being offered an unexpected lifeline here with Henderson, and we should take it gladly.

Long contracts for players over 30 should be reserved for generational talents like Salah, Alisson and VVD. We made a mistake with Henderson and Fabinho, and this is a chance to rectify that. Henderson's level has fallen significantly, and we'd be just carrying him on our books for 2 years at 140k a week, with little value on the field.

Don't want to understate his leadership, but there's no reason to overstate it either. The primary leader in the dressing room is Klopp and the squad is full of mature and solid individuals. The two new guys look like standout personalities too - MacAllister a WC winner and Szobozslai the national team captain at 22. The leadership will be fine.

If we get the chance to pocket a 20 million fee, we shouldn't scoff at it. There's no sign of any incoming investment, there's no CL revenue, and knowing FSG, this is the last splurge we'll make before Klopp leaves. I'm expecting zero signings in the next 2 windows, so any money that helps us make a push for Lavia and Colwill this window is welcome by me.

If Henderson goes. We need 2.

But I'm sure some will say Bajetic and Clark will be like new signings.

Good reassuring post.

As long as the young guns can step up I don’t see this as an issue.
Insane money for our most successful captain in 30 years.

Given his age, of course he needs to consider such a substantial offer, for himself, his family and for their future. Who among us would not?

It would be a pity if he does go though, given his experience and the huge influence he has had both on and off the pitch during his time at the club.

Those who can remember the days of CHAD, will know he was the only one with the strength of character and the ability to rise above such an unpromising beginning and become the leader of such a great team in recent years.

Were he to stay, even in a lesser role on the pitch, I'm sure his commitment would be absolute.

We definitely need 2, but with our finances, i can see us going CB and CM, rather than CB and 2 CM.

Personally, i'd want Thuram, Lavia and Schuurs (as Colwill will never happen)

You could argue with Ali, Szbos, fabinho, Jones, Elliott, Stefan and Thiago we could manage. but i'd want 1 more CM at least, especially with AFCON and Szbos probably moving to RW for a month. As only one of those is an out and out DM (as i feel that wastes Stefans abilities), I'd like Lavia

As things stand - if we sell Hendo - we couldn’t register both Thuram & Schuurs - we’d have to pick one.

Thats’s where it gets messy.

Dont think we’ll be after Schuurs. Doesnt fit the profile given we moved on from Inacio and Van de Ven

If one of Hendo or Thiago them goes we end up with a very new midfield that may take some time to gel. Especially as we may need a third midfielder if one does indeed go. Risky
