Young looked shite for a lot of that game, he ran into corners and had his passes/shots blocked. Of course we all know what these two players are capable of (Downing/Young) but that really is a case of ' grass is greener ....

That's absolute rubbish. In the latter half of last season, we scored some sensatiional goals. Our movement and passing has improved a great deal, what we need is to do it consistently. With Downing, Ming, Gerrard, Adam and Suarez we have every chance of going all the way.

While Nani played well, Young was anonymous. Silva looked every bit a classy as we know him to be.

I just picked three random names given the discussion was about the United-City game. Make no mistake though, all three of those players are better than Downing.

I dont think its as clear as that, downing and silva both offer different things and are very different players, but as for providing width and the ability to get past his defender and whip a cross in I would go with Downing. They are both very good at what they do and I think silva is better when he plays more central with a license to roam, but as with downing and mata I would want both downing and silva in the team instead of one or the other. Downing and Young are more similar and possibly easier to compare, again I think both will do well for their teams but as for being better I think it's closer than you make it out and I wouldn't be surprised if downing proves to be the better buy. I would say your correct about Nani though.
