Date set for league start

Wonder what the crack is gonna be now with pre season and friendlies etc now? Do the players need any time off now as they were off for 3months?

There was talk of FIFPro insisting that players get a minimum 3-week break between seasons which might mean the teams in the Champions League / Europa League starting the season late. Expect pre-season will be short and low key.

They weren't really off. They were still in training and were monitored by the physios.
Another reason for the delayed start is probably because of the international break in the beginning of September.
The players will probably get 2-3 weeks off and report to pre-season training somewhere in mid September.

I think they will get 3 weeks off and have domestic only friendlies. That’s why I would be surprised if we didn’t factor this in to our training post lockdown. That could explain or sometimes ponderous play and sometimes fantastic play. We were building ourselves for next season. Or it was solely “fuck it we’ve won the league let’s party”.

The league cup will be scrapped and FA cup will be midweek and no replays.

Think that's about right, but there'll be a big argument over the League Cup because a lot of lower league clubs will be hoping for a financial windfall from a big draw (assuming they can find a way to make some cash via TV / streaming if stadiums are still closed to fans when those 2nd / 3rd round games happen). I wouldn't be surprised to see that competition survive in some form, maybe even with seeding to ensure as many lower league clubs as possible get a big draw, with the possibility that Amazon or someone will buy up streaming rights.

I’d be surprised if smaller clubs relied on getting a big draw to keep their heads above water. It’s more likely a small team would be beaten by another small team with no tv coverage than getting a glamour tie away at a big side.

But it is what they hope for.

No replays. Bin off the LC or having EPL teams come in later or leave out teams in Europe.
FA Cup EPL come in at round 4.
That would be a smart solution, problem is there's money involved. League cup will probably not be binned off.
They'll just give the teams playing in Europe the option to opt out or play a youth team.
However, replays, 2 legs and such will be binned. It's obvious that the league cup is suffering.
The win bonus is just a mere £100,000 . Yes, that's what the winners of the cup get.

That’s shameful.

I didn’t realise the prize money was so low. I know it was always the lesser of all the competitions but I think it has become even less well regarded.

Strictly speaking, isn’t this a competition that can still get the winners into the Europa League? I know this pretty much never happens now because the big teams win it, but in theory?

So if our lads fucked off on their hols on Monday for a three weeks they’d be back on the 17th, two weeks of training with the Charity game a decent friendly. Then a couple of weeks of more intense training (international players obv. with Nations) and then into the first game.
