Defender Danny Wilson is expected to agree a move from Rangers to Liverpool in the next seven days.

The 18-year-old has just over a year left on his contract and had turned down the new deal on offer to him.

Liverpool had a previous bid turned down but have returned with an improved offer in the region of £2m plus add-ons that Rangers have deemed acceptable.

The Ibrox club stood to lose the player for around £500,000 in compensation had he not been sold this summer.

Wilson, who made his debut in October, was recently voted PFA Scotland young player of the year, having made over 20 appearances - two in the Champions League - and scored once this season.

Injury ended his campaign prematurely, but he will leave Ibrox with winners' medals from Rangers' Scottish Premier League and Co-operative Insurance Cup triumphs.

We seems to be picking up some good promising players.

Good news.

I quite like the look of Josh Thompson at Celtic too. Very promising young English centre-back.

What will this mean for Kelly and Ayala I wonder.

It will be a real shame if Kelly never gets a chance here. I think he can make it.

I'm sure Kelly will be ok, his versatility will ensure he gets a game (provided he can stay fit for a long enough to get into the team).

I don't really care. If Wilson turns out to be better than either, then it doesn't matter does it?

Kelly will make it, I think he'll end up a (very good) right full back.

This has been discussed as a done deal north of the border for a good few weeks. What does us tell us about Rafa's situation that he can splash 2 mill on an 18 year old?

He is very good for his age, has already played quite a bit for the first team, and is a ball playing CB. He could be very, very, good. In the Agger bracket.

There is always the possibility that Kenny has been given his own transfer budget to bring players into the academy however I think it is more likely that Rafa is staying.

That he has to? That the club will only sanction <5m deals on young players with potential to both make the first team (eventually) and/or make the club a profit.

If they are both faceless youngsters to you then no it doesn't. I've been following Kelly for a few years and have always thought he's a good prospect, so would like to see him get a chance and see if he can prove me right.

I think Wilson is as close as one can expect to be a nailed on cert to be PL quality. That's not to say he's ready to replace Agger or Skrtel, but I'd say he'll be worth a lot more than 2m in a few years. I think he's been brought in because he can bring the ball out, and already has the confidence to do so. That makes him a more natural replacement for the excellent but brittle Agger than we have in the reserves. It's a good buy.

Are we going to loan him back? Can't see the point of giving up games for Rangers to come and play in our reserves.

I would like to take this opportunity to remind everyone that scottish football is wank!

And James McCarthy shows that we're capable of spotting terrific young talent there. We missed out on him.

It tells us very little about Benitez' situation It tells us that we're in the market for good young talen at affordable prices regardless of who our manager is.

In thye same way that proceeding with the Cisse signing was not an indication Houllier was going to continue.
