Someone mentioned the other day I think that after several chances, he has his last one now with Stevie back.

To be fair it looked a lot better when Gerrard was on, and he looked more likely to do something.

Obviously he shouldn't have to rely on gerrard, but this is his (final?) chance now.

He'd better take it.

For me the jury's still out on Carroll. He could come good but I feel there is something not quite right about his attitude.

Carroll is being asked to do different things to what he has ever been asked before. In a different town at a different club having changed his entire lifestyle & with a massive price tag.

Today when stevie whipped balls in early in the area he actually played in, the first time he was caught unawares, the second time he expected it but fucked up, the third time he unleashed a bullet header that ricocheted off the bar.

That's possibly the only time he's had service where he needs it all season. A run of games with stevie, which he'll get both off shortly, will prove his worth.

I really don't think it's his attitude.
Don't get me wrong, there's been matches this season when his work-rate has been way off but recently he's been putting in a shift.

Just think he's desperately short of confidence at the minute. The fact that he was getting on the end of Gerrard's crosses was a plus.

It is a plus. but I don't really want to see the last days of gerrard's magnificent career spent whipping in crosses for useless fake kurgan standing in the penalty area. if we're not gonna win anything, i'd rather watch gerrard play with suarez or even kuyt.

Stevie on the right looks the only option if we are to get anything out of Carroll.

Which is sad on two fronts, firstly we have to dick our best player around try and get something out of the big lump and secondly cause he's the only player we have who can put a decent ball into the box at the minute.

I think the problem is that he's not very good. He's just not. We were hoodwinked.
[/quote]

yep. he's good in the air (but not as spectacular as we thought) and has a good left foot. that's it.

it was a terrible mistake to sign him at that price.

Whoever was commentating made an interesting point - Carroll seems to come far too deep to get the ball and when he does get it, in the event of him actually controlling it and laying it off to a team mate he seems to just stand there and admire the fact instead of getting his arse in to the box to get on the end of the move.

His first touch is fucking awful and he's about as clinical as a canny bag of Tudor crisps.

I'd hoped we were signing the "English Drogba" whenever we signed him... we've ended up signing someone who makes Duncan Ferguson look like fucking Pele.

I sympathise with both sides here. I've seen enough of Carroll at Newcastle to know that he is a good, talented player, who is playing well below himself at the moment.

But he was the wrong player, at the wrong club for the wrong price in the first place. The fact he is enduring his worst ever form is just compounding the issue.

Even at his best he is not worth adjusting our football for.

But he will get better. I promise you that.

This is how we get the best out of Carroll.... someone get this to our coaching team.

Hohohohohohohohohohohohoho, When the horse breaks its knees open on the bouncy ball will you flog the shit out of it?

He's got the traits of a few of our strikers: the offside reading ability of Cisse, the header scoring ability of Morientes/Crouch, the softness of Heskey, the clueless-ness of Voronin, and the first touch of Kuyt (under Benitez).

Ian Rush insists Andy Carroll will be a success at Liverpool.
The £35million striker has struggled to justify that massive price tag following his move from Newcastle last January, but he will get another chance on Friday night when he leads the line against his former club.
And Rush has no doubts he has the ability to come good. The Anfield legend said: “People go on about it but forget he’s only a young lad. It takes time to adjust and that’s hard when you’re not playing week in, week out.

Ian Rush
“But now he’s got a chance and let’s hope he takes it. If he does, Kenny [Dalglish] will keep him in every week.
“It’s all about confidence. If one goes in off his backside we’ll see a different Andy Carroll.
“At the moment he’s probably trying too hard. Sometimes you’re better off saying you just stay in the last third and telling others to get crosses in. if he gets the supply he’ll score goals. I’m very confident he’ll be a success.”

hes been as unlucky as suarez has- theyve rattled the woodwork fluffed sitters atleast half a dozen times each, sooner or later he'll get the rub of the green and spank 10 out of 10 into the net.

Generally, hes doing the right things in the right places.

He'll come half good by May

His ball control, first touch and movement (he moves like an 45-year old alcoholic) are the most worrying aspects of his game at the moment but perhaps those Will disappear with more confidence. He doesn't suit our type of play, he's the odd man and perhaps he has realised that too.

With the quality of ball that Steven Gerrard can deliver from wide, it is manna from heaven for Andy Carroll. You could visibly see his movement and energy rise as he realised that his runs were being spotted by one of the best midfielders in the business. From that point on he became the real handful for defenders that we all know he can be.

So all we have to do to get the best out of Carroll is to fill the team with a few more Steven Gerrards - only younger - ones and he'll come good.

So these multiple younger Gerrard clones can use him as a sort of lamppost - whereby they bang quality balls in at him at pace with the hope that they bounce off him in to the back of the net.

That's a very expensive lamppost we bought.

Actually, a lamppost may be more mobile and have a better first touch the Big Andy.

I still think I'll go with Kenny's judgment at this stage.

I hope your cyncism is misplaced.

I saw enough last night to think there's something to work with. Even a lampost has some light at the end of it.

That header last night- he almost caught it too well- such power, if the keeper had got to it, it would have carried him into the net. He's needing a few goals, and I'm sure he'll find his feet.

For the millionth time, he's needed service to suit his game, Stevie has provided perfect crosses for every striker we've ever had.

Within ten minutes last night he provided three ideal balls to him & by the time the last one came in Carroll knew what to expect & was very close to scoring. When they're playing together for a game or two he'll be firing on all cylinders, I'm convinced of it.

That's not to say he doesn't need to add more to his game, but it will give us another dimension to our play, & tie up defenders for others to score as well as providing a whole new outlet for goalscoring.

I agree totally, foxy. there was one time where adam picked up the ball and carroll made a run through the middle and adam just kept running with the bll instead of playing him in. if he is not getting service he will stop making those runs. carroll hasn't been great (understatement) but then neither has the service.
