He seems perfectly fit and does some excellent running off the ball. Has nobody noticed how he draws defenders and creates space with his decoy runs?
The problem is not what he does off the ball the problem is what he does when he has the ball, and no I still dont think he looks match fit.

If he doesnt perform against Bolton then I think he may need a spell on the bench to sort himself out because for whatever reason he just doesn't look anything like as convincing a player now as he did this time last year. Whether its the price tag, the pressure, not playing for his home town club or a clash of styles I don't know, but right now it just isnt working for him and we dont have the luxury of being able to carry him through a barren spell

If he'd have been playing for Exeter last night, he wouldn't have looked out of place.

Legend my hoop.

As people have no doubt commented, he's got a foot like a traction engine.

Looked like the amount of power he generated from a fairly static position was pretty impressive, dunno if it was just due to dodgy lower-league keeping
It wasn't.

He's got one heck of a shot on him that lad. And when he starts to get his headers on target and get into the right positions as well he could turn in to a veritable goal-machine.

I like the thought of that.

He's absolutely appalling on the ball. He looks like he needs about 5 seconds to control it and make a simple layoff, it's painfully awkward. It's like watching Joey Tribbiani reading a small passage of text.

Dirk's ball control is much worse than Carroll's but he is treated as a hero! :🙂 ;D

I just don't buy this theory that Carroll is unfit. I think it's just because he looks a bit ponderous as all tall players do.

Carroll's face last night made me want to run onto the pitch and punch him. I would have caught him aswell if he'd tried to run away, the lolopping great lummox.

I would be too if I had to wait till some other geezer in another forum, in another country, typed something that I could copy and paste.

Carroll Says Liverpool Is A Different World To Newcastle
By Nu Mad
Updated Saturday, 3rd September 2011

Andy Carroll has revealed he cannot believe how far he has come since leaving Newcastle.

Andy Carroll: "Sometimes I will sit with my girlfriend and think, 'I can’t believe I was at Newcastle last year, and now I am here with all this going on around me.'

"But I’m taking it in my stride – that’s the most important thing.

"I feel a little bit more like I’m part of the [England] squad, but obviously I’ve still got a lot of time to work on things, and hopefully be in the squad more.

"I know I’m not going to be in the team every time, so that’s something to work on.

"I think players like Jack Wilshere and some of the others coming through is great for England.

"I feel I’m playing well and I was delighted to have got my first goal for England against Ghana recently."

The price tag is always going to kill the Carroll effect, and so it should in my opinion; it was an insane amount to pay.

I reckon he's a decent Prem player to lead the line and score 15 goals a season (in a good team like us), maybe a couple more. The problem is Kevin Davies could do that. If we played N'Gog up front on his own all season, I reckon he'd score 10 goals and have a hand in a few more. So, why pay 35M for Carroll?

Rooney is a 30M striker, scores 30+ goals one season, gets lauded, flops the next, gets lambasted, as it should be. But he will deliver. He's class.

I mentioned 15 goals a season coz I've seen a few posts on here lately where some loonies think that may be a decent return. It would be a decent return for Carroll, it is not a decent return for a 35M striker: even if he cuts the grass and paints the stands.

Plus, after 2 games this season, it's already obvious to see (1) he's physically limited & (2) we're much better without him. The movement with Meireles and Suarez on the pitch proved that. You don't need John Carew up front as a 1 man.
Yep. Pretty much everything Larry said.

My biggest issue (aside from the fact we look much better team without him) is we paid 35M for him and would probably be struggling to get 15M for him if he doesn't work out and we need to off-load him. Luckily I think in Kenny we have a manager who won't select players according to their price tag or reputation but what they actually achieve in training and on the pitch.

I really really hope he comes good but he hasn't shown he can improve either himself or the team yet.

Can you imagine if Chelsea had paid £35 mill for him? He would have played every single game no matter how bad he was, just so the village idiot would be happy.

Actually I don't think that is true. See Torres.

I thought Torres had been getting plenty of game time? I stand corrected.
Edit: according to wikipedia he has made 17 apps. Surely that is the vast majority of games???

going back to larr's post about 15 goals not being a good return for a 35m striker, the only thing that important to me to is he helps us win games. if carroll dominates an opposition defender and we expliot the gaps and take 3 points that good enough for me.

I felt this about heskey in the treble season before he went on his purple patch, the reason why I went of heskey very quickly wasn't becuase the goals dried up it was because he forgot how to use his strength and power. the most important thing is we win games and that is all I care about.

If he plays a decent role in bringing back the title to Anfield, then it'll be money well spent.
Exactly. 3 games into a season we've started really well and the knives are already being sharpened for our young front man. Ridiculous.

And Portly made an excellent point. Kuyt's touch is often woeful (given he's in a "dip" for about 70% of the season) and yet any criticism of him is usually shouted down.

Sadly some doesnt see it like that.
I expect at least 15 goals from him though. Because that should be a minimum when you're a striker playing for Liverpool.
Still, he's young and learning. And judging by his interviews probably will take a little while to really get going for us.

I think he'll be boss, we just have give him time and look at it long term aswell.

So you don't expect goals from a £35 million pound striker, Neil?
I do but it shouldn't be milstone around his neck. I am utterly convinced carroll will play a vital role away from home. if I'm wrong I'll throw my hands up and admit it.

all ifs and buts but carroll would and should have a goal and assist to his name but for ridiculously fussy refs.

As Squiggles pointed out, Buddha, Kuyt is always fit and has the added bonus of chipping in with very important goals for us.

The £35 million pound striker should be the one driving us to the title, not just playing a decent part of it. Shearer at Blackburn, Henry at Arsenal & Horseface at Utd, that type of thing.

well, no.
I can see why fans are getting on carrol's back but I think there is a problem, I think the team needs to push closer to carroll so he isn't isolated, the team should use the space left by defenders that are sucked towards carroll. people were quick to tell everyone that would listen that vermaelen had carroll in his back pocket, well did the team exploit the space?

I had a problem with crouch and heskey because in my mind they didn't use their height/strength but carroll does, I see carroll as a slow burn who will get better every week.

none of that stuff matters to me, all I care about is the 11 players picked perform their role and we earn 3 points, that's all I care about.
