Biggest Flop of the Season

Injury is more than a excuse though. But yeah Allen has a lot to correct next season, among parts of the fans at least.

I wouldnt call Sterling a disapointment. He was overplayed but he would have featured more in the run in if he wasnt injured.
7 acadamy players have made their debuts this season, thats good.

Pachecho isnt good enough. He's never been a Premier league quality player.

Shelvey has disapointed me though. Looks like the ability is there but the attitude isnt.
Wouldnt be surprised if he's sold.

Skrtel has been terrible.

The management team clearly thought he was fit enough to play for most of the season so the injury can't have been that bad.

I think most fans are hopeful he'll turn it around and seem be giving him time so I don't think the knives are out just yet. If he starts next season as poorly as he ended this one... that will probably begin to change.

That's very much a matter of opinion, not fact - I'm not even sure how you've seen enough of him in the Premier League to make such a dismissive judgement.

I'm still trying to figure out how what sounds like a rotator cuff injury is an excuse for poor performance for Allen.

Allen has been more disappointing than Borini for me.

Borini has been out with two long injuries during his time here. I believe anyone who is judging him is doing to prematurely. For me, he's shown sufficient promise for a £10M young striker and he's looking sharper with every week. We only need him to provide competition for Sturridge and Suarez. He's good enough for that. We're not in a position in which we have to rely upon him, which benefits his progression.

Joe Allen started well and achieved a few MOM's in his first month, as well as praise from Gerrard, but there has been an alarming regression ever since. It could be linked to his shoulder injury, but we haven't seen a decline in Gerrard's performance since the shoulder injury he has been playing with since January so you have to wonder if it's a bullshit excuse.

Allen was meant to walk into this side and he's spent most of the season on the bench or injured. He will come good though. He's a decent player and he'll prove it next year, but he and Liverpool have every right to be disappointed with his contribution for 2012/13.

Any disappointment from these two has been overidded by the success of the Coutinho and Sturridge signings - and I think there's good reason for both Allen and Borini to have far more productive seasons next time round,. We're not talking about Keane/Aquilani/Carroll type flops here, which shouldn't be a refreshing to say, but it is.

Elsewhere in the league - I'd say the biggest bust has been Adebayor.

Leading scorer last season on loan from Citeh, with 17 league goals and 11 assists in 32 starts and 1 sub appearance. He was a monster last season and that convinced the Spurs to make his move permanent.

This season? He's scored 5 and assisted 1 in 18 starts and 7 sub appearances. A huge drop-off there. Besides that, the few big games I've seen him in, he's seemed more intent to get himself sent off than to help his team win games. AVB didn't do him any favours by not starting him in any league games until November (imagine going from leading scorer and assistant to sitting on the bench every game) but he still didn't do much after he got more regular starts.

The other flop would be Darren Bent. He's been unable to get into Lambert's team and good books; 3 goals in 8 starts and 8 sub appearances in the league.

Did you see him interviewed a week ago about how important it was to play in the Champions League? He said, 'Oh, it's very important, especially for the music they play at the start, it is incredible!' Some players are so simple it's a bit frightening they're allowed out.

Is it the 4th manager now that sends him out on loan after working with him in training and pre season?

Unless you're Joe Allen thats quite difficult to answer though?
If he was affected then it obviously did something to his natural game.

Regardless, he's not the first young player to struggle in his debut season at a big club.
Hopefully he's back to his best next season

Skrtel, for us, poor. A real shame after a good season last time out. Overall you would have to say that it was a poor league this season and a lot of the blame, for that has to lie with a truly feeble title defense from city. I consider city to be the biggest flop this time out.

Many people in better positions than you, Hansern, have routinely praised Shelvey's attitude and professionalism since he's been here. I don't know where you've picked up this myth.

Quite, I think he's a bit passionate on the pitch and it causes a few naive moments, but that's about it. People pick up slightly skewed impressions of players, which is pretty much what seems to have happened with Sturridge. If Shelvey can channel the aggression the right way he can still make it, he's got alot of talent, he needs to be more composed in a few different ways.

Well, if it is a rotator cuff problem - which it sounds like given the pain when lifting the arm over the head- I've had it.

It wouldn't affect a footballer all that much - except if he wanted to call for offside

Allen is easily our biggest flop. Borini hasn't played enough games to make a fair call.

Having said that, I'm willing to give Allen another chance. He's still very young.
